4. Input Devices
Fire Detector
The field of fire detection has advanced to where
smokedetectors and alarm devices have combined to become life-
safety systems. The purpose of an automatic fire-alarm system is
to detect an occurrence, alert the control panel and proper
authorities, and notify the occupants to take action.
• Smoke detectors
• Heat detectors
5. Fire Sprinkler
• Sprinkler heads operate individually. Note the red liquid alcohol in
the glass bulb. A fire sprinkler system is an active fire protection
method, consisting of a water supply system, providing adequate
pressure and flow rate to a water distribution piping system, onto
which fire sprinklers are connected.
6. Input Devices
Fire Box
When shorted trips an alarm (usually fire)
Installed in the normal exit path
Types of Fire Box
Single Action
Pull handle once
Glass Break
Glass rod or plate is broken
Double Action
Lifting of a cover or opening a door
7. Fire Extinguisher System
A fire extinguisher, or extinguisher, is an active fire protection device
used to extinguish or control small fires, often in emergency situations.
It is not intended for use on an out-of-control fire, such as one which
has reached the ceiling, endangers the user (i.e., no escape route,
smoke, explosion hazard, etc.), or otherwise requires the expertise of
a fire department.
Types of Fire Extinguisher-
8. Fire Extinguisher System
For use on Class A fires only
App 6m throw for jet nozzle
App 2m throw for spray type
Aim at base of fire
9L has 45sec minimum duration
Never use on electrical equipment
or flammable liquids!!!
9. For use on Class A & B fires
App 4m throw for jet nozzle
App 2m throw for spray type
Apply with caution/do not disturb
liquid
9L has 30sec minimum duration
Never use on electrical equipment !!!
10. Use on Class B & C fires and electrical
hazards
Check instructions, before holding
discharge horn
Use caution in confined spaces due to
asphyxiating effects of CO2
Hold upright at arm’s length, app 1,5m
from fire
11. CCTV
(CLOSED CIRCUIT TELEVISION)
Closed-circuit television (CCTV) is the use of video
cameras to transmit a signal to a specific place, on a
limited set of monitors. It differs from broadcast
television in that the signal is not openly
transmitted, though it may employ point to point
(P2P), point to multipoint, or mesh wireless links.
12. Why Use CCTV
Industrial Safety
Premises Monitoring
Shop Lifting
Monitoring of high secured Zone
Monitoring of Public Areas
Worker Management
Staff Collusion
Staff Protection
Car Park Security
Etc. ……
13. Type of camera
• Dome Camera
• Domes Installs easy in drop ceilings –
usually 2 screws
• Since a dome has a covered lens the
direction the camera is pointing is
hidden
• Dome can accommodate infra-red for
night vision
• As the dome camera themselves are
typically small the lens size are limited,
Although some dome camera comes
with vari-focal lens but the size are
limited
14. Box Camera
When mounting to a wall or any vertical area
When viewing distance where a long lens is
required which would not fit inside a dome or
bullet camera
When extreme low light (moon light, or a very
far street light) are not a consideration
Requires a housing for weather proofing and
vandal proofing
When considering this camera accessories like
lens, housing, stand etc are to be considered
