FDM can integrate with Essbase and Planning to load and calculate data. When designing an FDM integration, factors like user needs, data workflow, and cube design must be considered. FDM uses adapters to connect to other products, allowing it to directly load data or trigger actions like calculations. Data can be loaded to Essbase using load rules or by calling the API, while calculations can be run via an external calc script or one dynamically generated in FDM.
UKOUG 2012 Metadata Management for Oracle Hyperion EPMOrchestra Networks
Orchestra Networks presentation at the UK Oracle User Group EPM & Hyperion conference on October 23, 2012. A streamlined approach to the management and governance of shared dimensions and hierarchies - the metadata for the Hyperion EPM Suite.
Oracle acquiring Hyperion has certainly brought many changes and innovations to the EPM suite – it has also meant a regular release schedule for new versions. We have seen a varied approach to upgrading and moving to new versions among our clients. Some keep current with new versions while others wait until they feel the time is right for them. There is no wrong answer to how your company approaches this, but waiting too long can have some negative consequences (like being off of “premier” support). Upgrading used to be a bit simpler, but today the EPM suite is more complex and requires additional preparation and planning.
If you are considering a migration from Hyperion Enterprise to Hyperion Financial Management or upgrading from an earlier release of HFM to the 11.1.2 series (or even the latest 11.1.2.3 release)? join us for some insights on the key areas to consider for a project of this type along with significant features to examine for your possible use. Also, hear our experiences related to the latest 11.1.2.3 release. This webinar will focus on the general project considerations and the functional considerations in moving from earlier versions of HFM (like 11.1.1.3) to the 11.1.2 series of HFM with a new graphical user interface and the now “Open Custom Dimension” design (you can now have more than 4 Custom Dimensions).
What we will review:
What is means to upgrade to the 11.1.2 Series
To Migrate and/or ‘Redesign’?
Upgrade project considerations
Infrastructure Considerations
Performance Considerations around the Entity Structure
What it means to introduce additional custom dimensions
Changes related to FDM in 11.1.2.3

The rumors have been circulating for years, but Oracle recently confirmed that Hyperion Enterprise, one of the most popular financial consolidation and reporting applications ever released, has been placed on controlled availability. Hyperion Enterprise Release 6.5.1.1 is the “terminal release”, which means that there will be no additional versions or patches going forward. Premier Support for Enterprise will end in April 2013; Oracle will continue to provide Sustaining Support indefinitely.
On February 24, Finit Solutions will address this news and provide recommendations and guidance for companies currently on Enterprise. While this is a major announcement, there is no need to panic. Finit will provide relevant information to help you understand your options (one of which is to stay on Enterprise beyond April 2013). A fact-based, carefully considered approach is a great way to minimize risk and ensure that you make the right decisions for your company. Some of the topics discussed will include:
What does ‘controlled availability’ mean?
What is the difference between Premier and Sustaining Support?
What are the risks associated with Sustaining Support?
In addition to Sustaining Support, are there any ‘supplemental’ support options available?
Should we upgrade to 6.5.1.1?
The webinar will also focus on developing a plan within your organization for moving forward in light of this news. Considerations will include:
Sharing this information within your organization and discussing internal policies regarding product support.
Understanding dependencies on third party products and their impact on your Enterprise environment now and in the future.
Assessing the current functionality and usage of your Enterprise applications to determine requirements for moving onto a different product.
Balancing controlled availability, requirements, and budget to determine the timeline for moving off Enterprise that makes the most sense for your organization.
Case Study: Using EDMCS to Solve Master Data ChallengesAlithya
Enterprise Data Management Cloud Service (EDMCS) is a relatively new but critically important addition to the EPM Cloud product landscape. As clients have discovered the challenges surrounding effective master data management do not go away just by moving to the cloud. If anything, the EPM Cloud transition has only further emphasized the importance of robust management of enterprise master data assets. Come to this session to hear about the practical benefits achieved by an EDMCS implementation project.
This session will briefly highlight the key features and concepts of EDMCS (note, EDMCS really is not “DRM in the cloud!”). Then we will dive into a recent project involving an EDMCS implementation at a large mid-Atlantic health care insurer in support of an enterprise cost management/allocation initiative. Challenges, lessons learned, and benefits achieved will be highlighted, along with a look at the unique mix of products and technologies involved in the solution (PCMCS, Linux, and EPM Automate to name a few). We will also touch on the interesting challenges involving dimensionality, primary and alternate hierarchies, and data mappings as they relate to an EDMCS implementation for PCMCS.

Secrets of an EPM Cloud Solution - How to Deliver Superior Profit Performance Alithya
Oracle OpenWorld 2019
As organizations seek to improve the quality of service and reduce costs through the establishment of shared service centers for both corporate functions and client facing activities, the need for fully allocated P&Ls as a management reporting tool becomes critical to ensure that Divisional and Line-of-Business performance supports the overall corporate performance targets expected by senior management and investors. With most financial systems organized around managing expenses on a "supply side" basis, creating the pivot from "what it is" to "what and who it's for" becomes more challenging. Even if methodologies are agreed upon, providing both service providers and divisional leadership with transparency into the "why" behind P&L charges is a hurdle. For this reason, Oracle Enterprise Performance Management (EPM) Cloud applications such as Oracle Profitability & Cost Management Cloud Service (PCMCS) have been purpose-built to allow business users a mechanism to define initial models, execute them in an automated fashion, and provide transparency into allocated results and intercompany charges, allowing service providers and service consumers to better understand the levers that impact financial results. Attend this session for a case study that walks through the steps required to construct a fully allocated P&L within Oracle PCMCS. Topics covered include:
Designing a data model that enables transparency
Typical fully allocated P&L rule definition – sequencing and drivers
Leading practices in reducing rule maintenance
Self-service model validations and analytics
The session is a case study on how CareFirst transitioned from an on-premises custom Essbase application to a costing solution using Oracle Enterprise Data Management Cloud Service (EDMCS) and Oracle Profitability and Cost Management Cloud Service (PCMCS). CareFirst is one of the first Blue Cross Blue Shield plans to fully implement on the cloud. Through a live demo, insights will be provided on the movement of metadata and data during a monthly close cycle using EDMCS, data management integration with on-premises data sources, PCMCS cloud to cloud integration, and EPM Cloud automation using a Linux automation hub.

Finit solutions integrating with essbase and planningfinitsolutions
Oracle Hyperion Planning and Essbase are widely and successfully used by many companies for forecasting, budgeting, reporting and complex data analysis. Databases can vary from very small BSO (block storage) to extremely large ASO (aggregate storage) cubes. The decisions regarding how to build data and metadata integration from source systems into Planning and Essbase can be challenging; this becomes even more complex when considering how to integrate data and metadata within the EPM suite of products.
On August 18 you will learn about the various data and metadata integration options for Essbase and Planning. We will discuss the business cases and pros / cons of various tools and solutions, including:
Essbase Integration Services (EIS)
Oracle Data Integrator (ODI)
Enterprise Performance Management Architect (EPMA)
Financial Data Quality Management (FDM)
Essbase Studio
Additional solutions
You will also see demonstrations of some of these tools and observe first-hand how they are used to integrate with Planning and Essbase.

Getting the Most Out of FDM - Integrating with Essbase and Planningfinitsolutions
FDM offers a centralized platform for collecting data from all areas of the organization and a standardized approach to data validation and loading. Its intuitive interface, powerful audit trail, repeatable end-user driven workflow and out of the box reports have made it an integration staple to consolidation systems such as HFM and Enterprise.
With an adapter specifically designed to integrate with Essbase and Planning FDM can be a solution for those applications as well. We will take a look at successful FDM to Essbase and Planning implementations and how FDM can be configured in ways that lead to successful integrations.
Getting the Most out of EPMA: HFM Managing Metadata with EPMAfinitsolutions
Whether you previously used Hyperion Enterprise or managed a classic HFM application, moving to EPMA provides many benefits (but also has unique tricks you should know about!). In this webinar, we will review many of the enhancements that EPMA can bring to metadata management, such as:
• Shared metadata among different products or HFM applications within the same environment
• Comparisons of changes between what is loaded and what you are about to load
• Renaming a base member without losing previously-loaded data
• Enhanced features to identify and exclude orphan members
• Audit trails of metadata changes (“Who changed THAT attribute?” “Um, YOU did!”)
o Some do not always see this as a good thing, but auditors like it…
Of course, there are also a few areas we’ll cover to help you understand some limitations with EPMA and some possible workarounds to certain issues, including:
• Needing to be online to work within the web-based tool
• Must view validation error notifications one at a time on web compared to in a single text file
• Some additional complexity due to more features being available to use
Managing metadata with EPMA is what is being taught in Oracle’s HFM Administration training classes, and we hope that after attending this webinar, you will also discover some benefits to using EPMA with your current or future applications.
Finit solutions webinar er pi - how does it work with fdm and the epm suite-m...finitsolutions
Oracle Financial Data Quality Management (FDM) is an integral part of the EPM suite used by clients for loading data to Oracle Hyperion applications throughout the world every day. It has been the tool relied upon over the past decade for consistency, reliability and accountability in collecting financial data. With the FDM Adapter Suite comes the Oracle ERP Integrator (ERPi). ERPi enables FDM users additional integration to seamlessly load metadata and data from select ERP systems to their EPM applications. This works with the core FDM application to allow the benefit of integration with FDM drill back for Oracle general ledgers, as well as drill back from Planning, Financial Management, Financial Reporting, and Smartview through ERP Integration Suite or FDM to other source General Ledgers.
This webinar will introduce you to ERPi, how it might be implemented to work with the core FDM application and other EPM applications. We will cover the following:
Overview of ERPi
Architecture
Data Flow
EBS example
Using ERPi and FDM together
Benefits
FDM set-up
ERPi enhancements for 11.1.2.2 release

What if your entities submit financial data in the company's reporting currency but operate in a different local currency? For example, an entity in the Czech Republic may have a functional currency in EUR even though the local currency is in CZK. How do you perform FX impact analysis or Constant Rate Analysis for this entity easily in HFM? Yum! Brands has tackled the solution for this in various ways, from the mundane manual calculation in Excel to two different automated creative ways in HFM. In this webinar we will share with you the creative solutions our team and the Yum! Brands team collaborated on to automate translations in HFM.
The webinar will include:

Before hybrid mode capabilities were available, multiple cube solutions that blended the power of block storage (BSO) and aggregate storage (ASO) cubes were often used to provide the most efficient Essbase solution. These solutions allowed developers to utilize the robust calculation capabilities of BSO along with the rapid aggregation capabilities of ASO. With the availability of hybrid storage mode, these multiple cube solutions can now be simplified into a single hybrid cube.
In this webinar, Dennis Hogan will present:
A case study to:
Determine the impact of using hybrid storage and how it addressed key concerns of a 2 cube solution
Determine how the hybrid approach will optimize performance
The process of converting one multi-cube solution into a single hybrid cube
The good, the bad, and the ugly of the hybrid cube conversion process
The feasibility of a hybrid cube solution - Is it for you?

Finit how to let go - enterprise archive appsfinitsolutions
Hyperion Enterprise was a great finance tool that revolutionized corporate consolidations and reporting. For some, Enterprise was so great that it's still very hard to let it go!
You may have converted from Enterprise to HFM or OneStream years ago, but you still have 5 or 10 years of historical data in your current system. A few times a year, your CFO or Tax Department asks a question that you can only answer by jumping back into Hyperion Enterprise.
At the same time, you're getting pressure from IT to shut the Enterprise servers down. The risks and costs associated with maintaining 6 year-old unsupported software continue to grow, your budget is slim to none and the timeline for the project is week or two.
What's an Admin to do?
Webinar Topics:
Archiving Enterprise applications in HFM or OneStream
The Flat App Conversion timeline (this can be converted quickly)
How an Enterprise-to-HFM or Enterprise-to-OneStream Flat App conversion can be completed without a full-scale implementation at very low cost
How an Enterprise Archive brings all the data you need from Enterprise
How to replicate the relative simplicity of Enterprise in a 'flat' application
How to design an application to replace the different ways you're still using Enterprise today
How to avoid recalculating, re-translating and re-consolidating data in HFM or OS to match Enterprise logic
How to migrate and reconcile historical data quickly
Finit formula and business rule efficiency in one streamfinitsolutions
OneStream is an extremely flexible platform and has really been making a name for itself in the CPM (Corporate Performance Management) market. In addition to everything that the software can do out-of-the-box, at Finit we can customize your application to meet a wide range of complex business requirements. The limits of OneStream's flexibility is based more on the boundaries of consultants' / administrators' imagination and rule building abilities than any real constraints which exist within OneStream itself. Inside OneStream XF there are a variety of modules where rules/calculations can reside and there is ample opportunity for configurations to extend your system's functionality. Types of rules which exist are:
Member Formulas
Business Rules
Transformation Rules
Confirmation Rules
Join us for an explanation of the fundamental principles around creating efficient process and business rules and scripts within OneStream as we focus on:
Minimizing processing time
Decreasing manual application maintenance
Data storage
Script development
Additionally, we will explain Data Buffers / Eval Buffers, and then introduce some of the new functionality that has been developed for the 3.7 release of OneStream XF.

Neuro-symbolic is not enough, we need neuro-*semantic*Frank van Harmelen
Neuro-symbolic (NeSy) AI is on the rise. However, simply machine learning on just any symbolic structure is not sufficient to really harvest the gains of NeSy. These will only be gained when the symbolic structures have an actual semantics. I give an operational definition of semantics as “predictable inference”.
All of this illustrated with link prediction over knowledge graphs, but the argument is general.

Search and Society: Reimagining Information Access for Radical FuturesBhaskar Mitra
The field of Information retrieval (IR) is currently undergoing a transformative shift, at least partly due to the emerging applications of generative AI to information access. In this talk, we will deliberate on the sociotechnical implications of generative AI for information access. We will argue that there is both a critical necessity and an exciting opportunity for the IR community to re-center our research agendas on societal needs while dismantling the artificial separation between the work on fairness, accountability, transparency, and ethics in IR and the rest of IR research. Instead of adopting a reactionary strategy of trying to mitigate potential social harms from emerging technologies, the community should aim to proactively set the research agenda for the kinds of systems we should build inspired by diverse explicitly stated sociotechnical imaginaries. The sociotechnical imaginaries that underpin the design and development of information access technologies needs to be explicitly articulated, and we need to develop theories of change in context of these diverse perspectives. Our guiding future imaginaries must be informed by other academic fields, such as democratic theory and critical theory, and should be co-developed with social science scholars, legal scholars, civil rights and social justice activists, and artists, among others.

"Impact of front-end architecture on development cost", Viktor TurskyiFwdays
I have heard many times that architecture is not important for the front-end. Also, many times I have seen how developers implement features on the front-end just following the standard rules for a framework and think that this is enough to successfully launch the project, and then the project fails. How to prevent this and what approach to choose? I have launched dozens of complex projects and during the talk we will analyze which approaches have worked for me and which have not.

DevOps and Testing slides at DASA ConnectKari Kakkonen
My and Rik Marselis slides at 30.5.2024 DASA Connect conference. We discuss about what is testing, then what is agile testing and finally what is Testing in DevOps. Finally we had lovely workshop with the participants trying to find out different ways to think about quality and testing in different parts of the DevOps infinity loop.

– There is an option in the Essbase adapter to call a load rule that
sits on the Essbase server.
– Load Rules offer benefits such as data manipulation, setting of
dimension values, and data accumulation.
– For files with multiple errors, using a load rule will display errors
all at once instead of one at a timeall at once instead of one at a time.
• Can also just use API in the adapter to load file

Best Practices
• Building an Essbase Intersection Check Report
Unlike other Hyperion target systems Essbase does not have an– Unlike other Hyperion target systems, Essbase does not have an
inherent intersection check that takes place during FDM’s
validation process.
– Finit has created a script that will essentially query the Essbase
outline and check for invalid intersections of data.

FDM & Calc Scripts ‐ LOADp
• Using Finit “SmartMerge” solution for Essbase
Custom merge load solution eliminates the need for multiple– Custom merge load solution eliminates the need for multiple
calc scripts to handle data protection.
– At Export, FDM creates a .dat file that is compatible with
Essbase.
• There is no “Accumulate in File” option with FDM to Essbase
integrations. Unless a Load Rule is used, only the last of like g , y
intersections will load.
– The script will archive the previously loaded data file and
compare it with the current loadcompare it with the current load.

• It saves time in creating Clear Calc Scripts and in a few
implementations, there were many nuances in the calc p , y

Verdict and Best Practice
• A simple aggregation calc script can be replicated in FDM• A simple aggregation calc script can be replicated in FDM

• Also if there is only 1 location loading data so there isn’t• Also, if there is only 1 location loading data so there isn t
a need for many calc scripts in FDM, the FDM Action can

• However, if a complicated calc script needs to run and
you don’t wish to maintain it in FDM as well, the batch y

maintain going forward.
