Project Overview
End‐Users needed the ability to load data to an Essbase cube and to also maintain
allocation percentages for specific types of accounts that were also being loadedallocation percentages for specific types of accounts that were also being loaded
to Essbase.  The solution needed to replace a very complex process that was
being done in a complex spreadsheet.
Data Flow
• Users would execute an FDM task in which data was imported from an Oracle
EBS staging table.
• As the data is being imported, if an account is contained in the allocation tables
in FDM the line will be allocated based on a percentagein FDM, the line will be allocated based on a percentage.
• Prior to the load to Essbase, FDM will look to the outline to ensure that all
records are mapped to valid members.
• Then all data will be loaded to Essbase and an Essbase Calc Script will be
executed in FDM.  A data validation report will be displayed after the load.
Maintenance

• IT driven financial data or metadata load processing.

The Finit Solutions Series
Project Overview
Prior to this Planning implementation, the client was only using Essbase and HFM.
ODI was selected as the metadata integration tool for Planning.  Data is then
loaded to Essbase by FDM as FDM allows complex mapping and was already being
used for HFM loads.
Data Flow
A Planning metadata load file is first generated in Excel.  VBA processes in Excel pull

Getting the Most out of Integration:  Essbase and Oracle Hyperion Planning
Hyperion Application Link (HAL) The Finit Solutions Series
yp pp ( )
• HAL was Hyperion’s tool that provided financial and other data and
metadata load capabilities (similar to ODI and DIM).
• HAL is conceptually similar to ODI and DIM in that it is workflow
based and that the workflow is not pre‐built but rather needs to be
set up.
• HAL did have a mapping tool, Translation Manager, to allow for
mapping to take place between source and Hyperion targets.
• HAL was an OEM product for Hyperion, developed by Vignette.
• HAL was discontinued in June 2010 meaning the product is no
longer supported and Oracle tech support will not take any calls on
it.
• Finit Solutions is able to migrate complex HAL integrations to the
products of choice.

Essbase / Planning Native Tools The Finit Solutions Series
/ g
Strengths and Use Case
• Does not require any additional products to be installed.
• Depending on the system, they can be more robust than other tools.
Limitations
• Metadata maintenance must be performed separately in each product’s tool.
• Metadata must be performed within a tool on an application by application
basis.
• Limited versioning and audit capabilities.
• Most classic modes are client based (Planning is an exception)• Most classic modes are client based (Planning is an exception).
Similarities to Other Integration Products
• Similar to DRM / EPMA in the ability to manage metadata attributes and
hierarchies and ability to load metadata in the applicationhierarchies and ability to load metadata in the application.
Licensing / Other
• All native tools are included in the base product licensing.

Similarities to Other Integration Products • ODI and DIM with their ability to load financial and other data.   • No similarities in terms of preset end user‐driven data and mapping workflow. Th Fi it S l ti S i Getting the Most out of Integration:  Essbase and Oracle Hyperion Planning FDM to Essbase Implementation Case The Finit Solutions SeriesFDM to Essbase Implementation Case Project Overview End‐Users needed the ability to load data to an Essbase cube and to also maintain  allocation percentages for specific types of accounts that were also being loadedallocation percentages for specific types of accounts that were also being loaded  to Essbase.  The solution needed to replace a very complex process that was  being done in a complex spreadsheet. Data Flow • Users would execute an FDM task in which data was imported from an Oracle  EBS staging table.   • As the data is being imported, if an account is contained in the allocation tables  in FDM the line will be allocated based on a percentagein FDM, the line will be allocated based on a percentage.   • Prior to the load to Essbase, FDM will look to the outline to ensure that all  records are mapped to valid members.   • Then all data will be loaded to Essbase and an Essbase Calc Script will be  executed in FDM.  A data validation report will be displayed after the load. Maintenance The only maintenance involved modifying the mapping tables or the allocation  t bl if ith f th t h www.finitsolutions.com ‐ 16 ‐ tables if either of those were to change.

Th Fi it S l ti S i Getting the Most out of Integration:  Essbase and Oracle Hyperion Planning Oracle Data Integrator (ODI) The Finit Solutions Series Oracle Data Integrator (ODI)  Strengths and Use Case • Ability to load Hyperion metadata and financial and other data to Essbase,  Planning and HFM with product specific adaptersPlanning and HFM with product specific adapters. • IT driven financial data or metadata load processing.   • Situations where limited mapping or IT controlled mapping is needed. LimitationsLimitations • ODI does not have a pre‐built web based user interface to map, validate or load  data or metadata. • Validations and logging items will more than likely need to be custom built (i.e. gg g y ( log data load errors in a text file). Similarities to Other Integration Products • Most similar to DIM and HAL. • FDM for financial data, though typically a different use (Finance vs. IT). Licensing / Other • ODI does not require a license if used with Essbase, Planning, or HFM.   www.finitsolutions.com ‐ 17 ‐ • ODI was originally Sunopsis and acquired by Oracle.
