Moving Forward in Fall Prevention: An Intervention to Improve Balance Among Older Adults in Real-World Settings. Am J Public Health, 95(11), 2049 – 2056. The purpose of the study was to investigate the effectiveness of a group-based exercise intervention to improve balancing ability among older adults delivered in natural settings by staff in local community organizations. In this study, the quasiexperimental design was used. The participants of this study were older adults concerned about falls. In this study, community organizations were responsible for recruiting participants and delivering the intervention. Ninety eight participants were offered the interventions by 10 community organizations in a group of 5 to 15 persons and 7 organizations recruited 102 participants (similar groups of 5 to 15 persons) for control group (with home-based exercises). Participants were assessed by a physiotherapist at the beginning of the study and 3 months later. The researchers compared the demographics, health, balance, and strength of the two groups. The mean age of participants was 73.9 years, and 84% were women. More than half of study participants lived alone, and almost 40% reported having fallen in the year before baseline assessment. Comparison of intervention and control participants at baseline did not reveal statistically significant differences in demographics, health, physical activity, or vitality indicators. Intervention participants improved more than control participants on all statistic balance indicators except one (lateral reach both sides). Intervention participants also showed greater improvement in mobility and strength indicators. The findings of this study are consistent with those of previous researchers who reported that group-based exercises targeting balance can actually improve balance among older adults. However, to our knowledge, this is the first study to demonstrate that intervention effects on balance are possible when the intervention is managed by community organizations and when participants register because they are concerned about their balance or worried about falls. The strength of the study is that the ten intervention organizations represented a broad range of enviro.

Research has consistently shown that life satisfaction is
associated with longevity (for a review, see Diener &
Chan, 2011). For example, meta-analyses of long-term
prospective studies have shown that higher life satisfac-
tion predicts lower risk of mortality over decades (Chida
& Steptoe, 2008). Although this literature has demon-
strated an intrapersonal effect of life satisfaction (i.e.,
an effect of an individual’s life satisfaction on that indi-
vidual’s mortality), it is less clear whether life satisfac-
tion has interpersonal effects as well. In particular, does
an individual’s life satisfaction affect the mortality risk
of his or her spouse?
Epidemiological studies have demonstrated the impor-
tance of contextual characteristics (e.g., neighborhood
characteristics; Bosma, Dike van de Mheen, Borsboom,
& Mackenbach, 2001) for individuals’ longevity. Adopting
the interpersonal perspective (Zayas, Shoda, & Ayduk,
2002), I propose that the characteristics (e.g., life satisfac-
tion) of the people who are close to an individual can
also make up that person’s context and, potentially,
affect his or her life outcomes. For example, life satis-
faction has been associated with healthy behaviors such
as physical exercise (Kim, Kubzansky, Soo, & Boehm,
2017). Given that spouses tend to affect each other’s
lifestyle ( Jackson, Steptoe, & Wardle, 2015), having a
happy spouse might increase one’s likelihood of engag-
ing in healthy behaviors. In addition, happiness has been
associated with helping behavior (O’Malley & Andrews,
1983). Hence, having a happy partner might be related
to experiencing support from that partner and, conse-
quently, might improve one’s health and longevity.
Indeed, a recent study found that spousal life satisfac-
tion was associated with individuals’ self-rated health
(Chopik & O’Brien, 2017), although such interpersonal
effects were not detected for doctor-diagnosed chronic
conditions (Chopik & O’Brien, 2017) or for inflammation
markers (Uchino et al., 2018). None of the existing studies
have explored whether spousal life satisfaction predicts
individuals’ mortality. The present research examined this
question using panel data of approximately 4,400 elderly
couples in the United States. In addition, a set of

The prevalence of underweight, overweight and obesity in children and adolescents from Ukraine
The main objective of this study was to determine the prevalence of obesity, overweight and underweight in Ukrainian children. The study took the format of a cross-sectional design where a representative sample of 13,739 was taken for the children. Measures taken from the children included body weight and height and the Body Mass Index (BMI) obtained from these. Results were interpreted based on standards of the US Center for Disease Control (CDC) International Obesity Taskforce (IOTF) and the World Health Organization (WHO).Results indicated that 12.1% of children are underweight, 17.6% overweight and 12.6% obese among children aged 12 to 18 years. More of the young populations are obese than the old in the country. The prevalence of overweight and obesity among Ukrainian children is higher than the average for Europe that stands at 30%. However, compared to the US, 18.5% obesity in children, Ukraine children are less obese. Included in the article are measures that would help reduce the prevalence of overweight at a national level (Dereń et al., 2018).
This article is relatively relevant to an average reader in the US. While it does not indicate the impact of the high rate of overweight and obesity, it shows that the US leads the world in cases of obesity and overweight. It has the capacity to influence group decision making more than individual based decisions. The article left out the most relevant information such as factors that have contributed to the high rate of overweight and obesity among children in Ukraine. Another important information that would have been included in the article are measures to control the overweight epidemic at an individual level (Dietz et al., 2015). Another important information would be methods to determine one’s weight status to determine if they are safe or not.

Integrative Literature Review
The primary goal of this literature review is to integrate concepts from four different content domains within the larger field of psychology. The four content domains should be chosen from previous coursework in this program. In this paper, students will review the findings in the individual empirical articles, organize the research in a meaningful way, evaluate the reliability, validity, and generalizability of the research findings, and present an integrated synthesis of the research that sheds new light on the topics within and across the four domains.

Integrative Literature Review
The primary goal of this literature review is to integrate concepts from four different content domains within the larger field of psychology. The four content domains should be chosen from previous coursework in this program. In this paper, students will review the findings in the individual empirical articles, organize the research in a meaningful way, evaluate the reliability, validity, and generalizability of the research findings, and present an integrated synthesis of the research that sheds new light on the topics within and across the four domains.
The result of a successful integrative literature review may be a significant contribution to a particular body of knowledge and, consequently, to research and practice. Therefore, before writing this literature review, substantive new research must be conducted via the Internet and within the Ashford University Library for each of the four chosen domains. A minimum of six sources must be included for each of the four domains. Although content from literature reviews completed in prior courses within this program may be included, it may not constitute the total research for the individual domains addressed within this assignment. No more than four sources from previous literature reviews completed in this program may be utilized for this integrative review.

The ethics of animal research: a survey of
the public and scientists in North America

Abstract
Background: To determine whether the public and scientists consider common arguments (and counterarguments)
in support (or not) of animal research (AR) convincing.
Methods: After validation, the survey was sent to samples of public (Sampling Survey International (SSI; Canadian),
Amazon Mechanical Turk (AMT; US), a Canadian city festival and children’s hospital), medical students (two second-year
classes), and scientists (corresponding authors, and academic pediatricians). We presented questions about common
arguments (with their counterarguments) to justify the moral permissibility (or not) of AR. Responses were compared
using Chi-square with Bonferonni correction.
Results: There were 1220 public [SSI, n = 586; AMT, n = 439; Festival, n = 195; Hospital n = 107], 194/331 (59 %)
medical student, and 19/319 (6 %) scientist [too few to report] responses. Most public respondents were <45 years
(65 %), had some College/University education (83 %), and had never done AR (92 %). Most public and medical
student respondents considered ‘benefits arguments’ sufficient to justify AR; however, most acknowledged that
counterarguments suggesting alternative research methods may be available, or that it is unclear why the same
‘benefits arguments’ do not apply to using humans in research, significantly weakened ‘benefits arguments’.
Almost all were not convinced of the moral permissibility of AR by ‘characteristics of non-human-animals
arguments’, including that non-human-animals are not sentient, or are property. Most were not convinced of the
moral permissibility of AR by ‘human exceptionalism’ arguments, including that humans have more advanced
mental abilities, are of a special ‘kind’, can enter social contracts, or face a ‘lifeboat situation’. Counterarguments
explained much of this, including that not all humans have these more advanced abilities [‘argument from
species overlap’], and that the notion of ‘kind’ is arbitrary [e.g., why are we not of the ‘kind’ ‘sentient-animal’ or
‘subject-of-a-life’?]. Medical students were more supportive (80 %) of AR at the end of the survey (p < 0.05).
Conclusions: Responses suggest that support for AR may not be based on cogent philosophical rationales, and
more open debate is warranted.

Jan Vanslyke, PhD, and Marisa Allen, ABD, are senior evaluation specialists at Reid and Associates. The purpose of this study was to determine if the Somatic Experiencing Trauma Resiliency Model (SE/TRM) could "reduce the post disaster symptoms of social service workers“ who deliver services to individuals and communities after a disaster.
The researchers conducted a quantitative study of 142 social service workers who provided service after huricanes Katrina and Rita in New Orleans. The study was conducted on a nonrandom sample of 142 social service workers. 91 participants received SE/TRM and they were compared with 51 workers who did not receive SE/TRM and were matched via propensity score matching. They hypothesis was that the use of SE/TRM could reduce the symptoms of disaster relief workers post disaster. Data analysis showed that there was a significant difference between the two groups in relation to post disaster relief. The group that received SE/TRM showed significantly lower PTSD symptoms and psychological distress and higher levels of resiliency. The authors noted that all of the participants in this study were employed, which sets them apart from many disaster survivors as well as the study was not a „randomized control study“. Further research is needed to further study the effectiveness of SE/TRM in the field of disaster treatment.

Abstract
Case studies which are done in the field of medicine work towards improving the health of the population. There are some of the parts contained in case studies which are abstract, results, limitations of results, conclusions, and applications. The common statistical methods used in research are descriptive numerical and qualitative thematic analyses. The results of the studies show that equal participation of individuals in the health sector will help boost public health. Limitations of results are that although some strategies may work towards improving health sector, not all of them are effective.
Public health is an important sector in any country for it directly affects the economy of the nation. There need to be certain ways which should be employed with the aim of supporting and improving public health. In this paper, I am going to examine 4 contemporary peer-reviewed articles which employ quantitative or mixed-methods concerning ways on how to improve the health of the public. The interest of the paper is to aid in achieving the best impact in public health sector via using programs which will improve health outcomes drastically. Enhancement of public health will in return help to improve the well-being of populations across the world. Public health awareness on how to avoid unhealthy lifestyles should be created.
In the articles, samples and populations used were appropriate for it showed the real representative of the population at hand. All the samples used in the 4-contemporary peer-reviewed articles fulfilled the rule of thumb hence making them appropriate. The samples used were suitable for they were used to estimate the population parameters for it stood for the entire inhabitants. The samples used were larger but not too large to consume more resources of money and time. The larger sample has helped to produce accurate results making the samples valid and appropriate. The appropriateness of the samples used in these articles, it has been proved via usage of target variance. In using target variance an estimate to be derived from the model eventually attained.

This study is based on the Ecological Systems Theory and Family and Community Systems perspectives, which emphasize the need to consider the effects of individual, family, community, and societal factors on health and social outcomes (Bronfenbrenner & Morris, 1988; Campbell, Hesketh, & Davison, 2010; Elder et al., 2007; Fulkerson et al., 2015; Novilla, Barnes, De La Cruz, Williams, & Rogers, 2006; Valente, 2012).
This study contributes to the literature in several ways and emphasizes that peers and families are important sources of influence when it comes to healthy eating and choices of activities in young adolescents. Specifically, adolescents who reported a stronger connection with their family also engaged more frequently in physical activity than adolescents who reported lower familism. The benefits of targeting the family as part of lifestyle interventions are well established (Epstein, Paluch, Roemmich, & Beecher, 2007; Skelton, Buehler, Irby, & Grzywacz, 2012; St Jeor, Perumean-Chaney, Sigman-Grant, Williams, & Foreyt, 2002). The rationale underlying family-centered approaches is that modification of the youth’s environment is necessary to change and maintain children’s healthy habits. As a primary source of socialization, parents not only influence youths’ healthy lifestyle in providing access to resources and in modeling and reinforcing healthy habits, but they also provide the basis for the development of healthy peer relationships. Conceivably, stronger family connections may operate directly on young adolescents’ physical activity, but also indirectly in establishing the foundations for healthy peer relationships, which in turn promote healthier diet and a less sedentary lifestyle.

ABSTRACT Context: This prospective study compared group process literature to
topics utilized in a yearlong family practice resident support group.
Objectives: The basic hypothesis was that resident support groups function in ways that
are similar to other groups to the extent that the literature on group process could
contribute to our understanding of support groups for residents.
Method: Ten possible discussion topics were grouped along a continuum from
informational to interpersonal to intrapersonal.
Analysis: Data were subjected to three repeated measures of analysis of variance
(ANOVA).
Findings: Results re�ected that informational topics did not decrease, interpersonal
topics did increase signi�cantly, yet intrapersonal topics did not re�ect any signi�cant
changes over the course of study.
Discussion and Conclusions: The preliminary �ndings indicated the research literature
on group process may have application to resident support groups. When more
formalized groups like Balint groups are not available , support groups may offer a forum
to facilitate the interpersonal and intrapersonal discussions and communications of
residents. Recommendations derived from the support group experience and the research
are given.

Various didactic and experiential methods have been used in medical education
to promote physician interpersonal and intrapersonal awareness (Novack et al.,
1997). One of the major approaches for enhancing self- and other awareness
and for training medical students and residents to respond empathetically to
patients is participation in a group. This brief communication reports on one
such resident support group. The basic hypothesis was that resident support

Abstract
Background: To determine whether the public and scientists consider common arguments (and counterarguments)
in support (or not) of animal research (AR) convincing.
Methods: After validation, the survey was sent to samples of public (Sampling Survey International (SSI; Canadian),
Amazon Mechanical Turk (AMT; US), a Canadian city festival and children’s hospital), medical students (two second-year
classes), and scientists (corresponding authors, and academic pediatricians). We presented questions about common
arguments (with their counterarguments) to justify the moral permissibility (or not) of AR. Responses were compared
using Chi-square with Bonferonni correction.
Results: There were 1220 public [SSI, n = 586; AMT, n = 439; Festival, n = 195; Hospital n = 107], 194/331 (59 %)
medical student, and 19/319 (6 %) scientist [too few to report] responses. Most public respondents were <45 years
(65 %), had some College/University education (83 %), and had never done AR (92 %). Most public and medical
student respondents considered ‘benefits arguments’ sufficient to justify AR; however, most acknowledged that
counterarguments suggesting alternative research methods may be available, or that it is unclear why the same
‘benefits arguments’ do not apply to using humans in research, significantly weakened ‘benefits arguments’.
Almost all were not convinced of the moral permissibility of AR by ‘characteristics of non-human-animals
arguments’, including that non-human-animals are not sentient, or are property. Most were not convinced of the
moral permissibility of AR by ‘human exceptionalism’ arguments, including that humans have more advanced
mental abilities, are of a special ‘kind’, can enter social contracts, or face a ‘lifeboat situation’. Counterarguments
explained much of this, including that not all humans have these more advanced abilities [‘argument from
species overlap’], and that the notion of ‘kind’ is arbitrary [e.g., why are we not of the ‘kind’ ‘sentient-animal’ or
‘subject-of-a-life’?]. Medical students were more supportive (80 %) of AR at the end of the survey (p < 0.05).
Conclusions: Responses suggest that support for AR may not be based on cogent philosophical rationales, and
more open debate is warranted.

Jan Vanslyke, PhD, and Marisa Allen, ABD, are senior evaluation specialists at Reid and Associates. The purpose of this study was to determine if the Somatic Experiencing Trauma Resiliency Model (SE/TRM) could "reduce the post disaster symptoms of social service workers“ who deliver services to individuals and communities after a disaster.
The researchers conducted a quantitative study of 142 social service workers who provided service after huricanes Katrina and Rita in New Orleans. The study was conducted on a nonrandom sample of 142 social service workers. 91 participants received SE/TRM and they were compared with 51 workers who did not receive SE/TRM and were matched via propensity score matching. They hypothesis was that the use of SE/TRM could reduce the symptoms of disaster relief workers post disaster. Data analysis showed that there was a significant difference between the two groups in relation to post disaster relief. The group that received SE/TRM showed significantly lower PTSD symptoms and psychological distress and higher levels of resiliency. The authors noted that all of the participants in this study were employed, which sets them apart from many disaster survivors as well as the study was not a „randomized control study“. Further research is needed to further study the effectiveness of SE/TRM in the field of disaster treatment.

Abstract
Case studies which are done in the field of medicine work towards improving the health of the population. There are some of the parts contained in case studies which are abstract, results, limitations of results, conclusions, and applications. The common statistical methods used in research are descriptive numerical and qualitative thematic analyses. The results of the studies show that equal participation of individuals in the health sector will help boost public health. Limitations of results are that although some strategies may work towards improving health sector, not all of them are effective.
Public health is an important sector in any country for it directly affects the economy of the nation. There need to be certain ways which should be employed with the aim of supporting and improving public health. In this paper, I am going to examine 4 contemporary peer-reviewed articles which employ quantitative or mixed-methods concerning ways on how to improve the health of the public. The interest of the paper is to aid in achieving the best impact in public health sector via using programs which will improve health outcomes drastically. Enhancement of public health will in return help to improve the well-being of populations across the world. Public health awareness on how to avoid unhealthy lifestyles should be created.
In the articles, samples and populations used were appropriate for it showed the real representative of the population at hand. All the samples used in the 4-contemporary peer-reviewed articles fulfilled the rule of thumb hence making them appropriate. The samples used were suitable for they were used to estimate the population parameters for it stood for the entire inhabitants. The samples used were larger but not too large to consume more resources of money and time. The larger sample has helped to produce accurate results making the samples valid and appropriate. The appropriateness of the samples used in these articles, it has been proved via usage of target variance. In using target variance an estimate to be derived from the model eventually attained.

This study is based on the Ecological Systems Theory and Family and Community Systems perspectives, which emphasize the need to consider the effects of individual, family, community, and societal factors on health and social outcomes (Bronfenbrenner & Morris, 1988; Campbell, Hesketh, & Davison, 2010; Elder et al., 2007; Fulkerson et al., 2015; Novilla, Barnes, De La Cruz, Williams, & Rogers, 2006; Valente, 2012).
This study contributes to the literature in several ways and emphasizes that peers and families are important sources of influence when it comes to healthy eating and choices of activities in young adolescents. Specifically, adolescents who reported a stronger connection with their family also engaged more frequently in physical activity than adolescents who reported lower familism. The benefits of targeting the family as part of lifestyle interventions are well established (Epstein, Paluch, Roemmich, & Beecher, 2007; Skelton, Buehler, Irby, & Grzywacz, 2012; St Jeor, Perumean-Chaney, Sigman-Grant, Williams, & Foreyt, 2002). The rationale underlying family-centered approaches is that modification of the youth’s environment is necessary to change and maintain children’s healthy habits. As a primary source of socialization, parents not only influence youths’ healthy lifestyle in providing access to resources and in modeling and reinforcing healthy habits, but they also provide the basis for the development of healthy peer relationships. Conceivably, stronger family connections may operate directly on young adolescents’ physical activity, but also indirectly in establishing the foundations for healthy peer relationships, which in turn promote healthier diet and a less sedentary lifestyle.

ABSTRACT Context: This prospective study compared group process literature to
topics utilized in a yearlong family practice resident support group.
Objectives: The basic hypothesis was that resident support groups function in ways that
are similar to other groups to the extent that the literature on group process could
contribute to our understanding of support groups for residents.
Method: Ten possible discussion topics were grouped along a continuum from
informational to interpersonal to intrapersonal.
Analysis: Data were subjected to three repeated measures of analysis of variance
(ANOVA).
Findings: Results re�ected that informational topics did not decrease, interpersonal
topics did increase signi�cantly, yet intrapersonal topics did not re�ect any signi�cant
changes over the course of study.
Discussion and Conclusions: The preliminary �ndings indicated the research literature
on group process may have application to resident support groups. When more
formalized groups like Balint groups are not available , support groups may offer a forum
to facilitate the interpersonal and intrapersonal discussions and communications of
residents. Recommendations derived from the support group experience and the research
are given.

Various didactic and experiential methods have been used in medical education
to promote physician interpersonal and intrapersonal awareness (Novack et al.,
1997). One of the major approaches for enhancing self- and other awareness
and for training medical students and residents to respond empathetically to
patients is participation in a group. This brief communication reports on one
such resident support group. The basic hypothesis was that resident support
groups function in ways that are similar to other groups to the extent that the
literature on group process could contribute to our understanding and

A Strategic Approach: GenAI in Education
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.

Moving Forward in Fall Prevention: An Intervention to Improve Balance Among Older Adults in Real-World Settings. Am J Public Health, 95(11), 2049 – 2056. The purpose of the study was to investigate the effectiveness of a group-based exercise intervention to improve balancing ability among older adults delivered in natural settings by staff in local community organizations. In this study, the quasiexperimental design was used. The participants of this study were older adults concerned about falls. In this study, community organizations were responsible for recruiting participants and delivering the intervention. Ninety eight participants were offered the interventions by 10 community organizations in a group of 5 to 15 persons and 7 organizations recruited 102 participants (similar groups of 5 to 15 persons) for control group (with home-based exercises). Participants were assessed by a physiotherapist at the beginning of the study and 3 months later. The researchers compared the demographics, health, balance, and strength of the two groups. The mean age of participants was 73.9 years, and 84% were women. More than half of study participants lived alone, and almost 40% reported having fallen in the year before baseline assessment. Comparison of intervention and control participants at baseline did not reveal statistically significant differences in demographics, health, physical activity, or vitality indicators. Intervention participants improved more than control participants on all statistic balance indicators except one (lateral reach both sides). Intervention participants also showed greater improvement in mobility and strength indicators. The findings of this study are consistent with those of previous researchers who reported that group-based exercises targeting balance can actually improve balance among older adults. However, to our knowledge, this is the first study to demonstrate that intervention effects on
- 2. balance are possible when the intervention is managed by community organizations and when participants register because they are concerned about their balance or worried about falls. The strength of the study is that the ten intervention organizations represented a broad range of environments, and the study obtained a high follow-up rate of 88.5%. The weakness of the study is that participants were not randomly assigned either to intervention or placebo groups. As in any nonrandomized study design, one cannot completely exclude the possibility of a confounding variable not controlled by the analysis.
