The Kajang Local Plan for Sustainable Development aims to develop Kajang into a sustainable environment. The plan's main objectives are maintaining economic growth and employment, social progress, protecting the environment, and prudent use of natural resources. It proposes upgrading facilities, considering environmental protection in new construction, providing more commercial areas and jobs, and integrating effective transportation with development. The plan also discusses improving quality of life, environmental impact, development access, parking, urban design, safety, landscape/biodiversity, renewable energy, air and water quality, and drainage. It emphasizes strategy for future mixed-use growth, public participation, training local authorities, and efficient land use to achieve sustainable development.

• Population around 311 785 in 2010

Main objective is to develop Kajang into
sustainable environment in the future.
The plan includes:
I. Maintenance of high and stable level
of economic growth and employment
II. Social progress which recognize the
needs of everyone
III. Effective protection of the
environment
IV. Prudent use of natural resources

4. QUALITY OF
DEVELOPMENT
• More public service like health,
education, food, security and clean
environment shall be provided
• Upgrade existing facilities for people
for their economic and social progress
• New construction shall consider saving
the trees, not to demolished them
• Provide more opportunities of works by
providing more commercial areas

5. INTEGRATING
TRANSPORT
AND
DEVELOPMENT• Future to be MRT station at Kajang shall
boost the land value around Sg Chua
• Best to develop more commercial and
residential area around Sg Chua
• Relocating bus stop location in Kajang –
existing bus stop cause traffic jam not just
during peak hour
• Limit the number of taxis since less people
are using it because of expensive fares
• Provide more comfortable public bus –
existing bus no air cond, release black
smoke

road to exit the city center
• Proper timing of traffic light according to
peak and non peak hour in order to reduce
traffic jam

• Provide comfortable pedestrians walkway –
with chairs to sit if possible
• Make cycling path along the road to ensure

• Provide effective public transport – once
every 15min, and proper bus stop location
to avoid traffic jam
• Alternative road to exit city center shall be
build since a lot private transport used –
avoid jam

• Build large parking and upgrade existing
parking lot to be bigger
• No parking fees for that parking and
increase parking fees for non dedicated
places – to encourage people to use
parking and to reduce traffic jam
• Multiple entrance to the parking area –
easy to enter and exit

10. URBAN DESIGN
PRINCIPLE
• Provide more public space for example
theme park, and small park for relaxation in
working stress purpose
• Make welcome and exit signs before
entering Kajang – “WELCOME TO
KAJANG”
• Construction of special lighting structures
to make the city beautiful at night
• High quality street lighting
• Decrease industrial area in the city

•The city needs to expand and construct more
residential areas as the number of residents is
progressively increasing
•As Petaling is a conurbation, Kajang town
itself should be combined with Bandar Baru
Bangi which is under Kajang Municipal Council
•Some towns such as Bandar Baru Bangi is
quietly improved and new Kajang 2 still under
construction which contribute on the
developmental sustainability

12. CONTEXT
• Commercial lands use growth more at
Kajang. But, there also have some commercial
lands use near residential area
•Town center also have to expand and built up
commercial zones close to different residential
areas
•New commercial districts will be develop up
the town, as the town as limited marketing
regions , the new commercial districts will
grow up the development sustainability

13. CONTEXT
•To upgrade Kajang as Sustainable Town:
•Reduce the working, living and
business environment of the town
•Ensure complete and integrated
town linkages with outside area
•Ensure the functional distribution of
centers and facilities such as
hospital that are in crowded road
•Merge the development and
enhance the environment of stable
areas such as at town centre itself

14. SAFETY &
SECURITY
•As Kajang is one of the town in Klang Valley
with large density of population, the safety and
security must be in higher level
•Kajang has a big police station, but along with
the development of Kajang itself, Kajang need
more police posts and police patrols
•Some places in Kajang that have less safety
like in Kajang Town
•Kajang itself has many hidden places that
may cause of criminality

15. SAFETY &
SECURITY
•To overcome this problem:
•Place the closed-circuit television
(CCTV) at the hidden place, especially
that always happen crime activities
•The residents must have civic intention
and always help people when they in
difficult situation
•Kajang Municipal Council and police
must do their own job
•Put more number of the police posts and
police in-duty as much as helping the
residents and visitors, especially
weekend or public holiday

BIODIVERSITY
•Landscape at Kajang are irregular; some
places are more green while others are not
•Too many roads and buildings make Kajang
look too not sustainable

•Do not disturb the reserved forest
•Planted forest at undeveloped land
areas
•Do the landscape at town and home
•Build more recreation garden
•Build a garden for those have big
yard at home

•In general, energy resources can be divided
into: conventional energy resources, nuclear
energy resources, and renewable energy
resources
•Energy savings or energy conservation is the
act of reducing the amount of energy use.
Energy savings can lead to reduced costs,
increased the value of the environment, state
security, personal security, and comfort
•Energy savings and use as it needed is
absolutely necessary

ENERGY
•To maintain the renewable energy:
•Plant the trees
•Turn off unused lights
•Use the smaller power of electronic
goods
•Prevent to use the motorcycle or car if
the distance travelled is near
•Use compact fluorescent light bulbs to
replace the lamp.
•Buy products that have the Energy Star
label on them.
•Use solar power to heat water and
pools, cook, and light homes and
buildings

20. AIR QUALITY
•The air quality in Kajang centre is quite good.
•The main source of the pollution comes from
the traffic congestion
•Kajang needs a recreational park as much as
the balance of ecosystem and air quality
•Traffic jam at Jalan Bangi and Jalan Reko
every peak hour causes air pollution,
especially the blue public buses (the old one)

•Reduce the number of the blue
public buses and increase the
number of RapidKL
•Create a park for every housing
areas
•Give the awareness among road
users to ride the public
transportation, especially at peak

•Main problem of Kajang is flash flood
•The drainage system is not satisfactory as
heavy rain occurs
•The quality of water is influenced greatly by
human development
•Construction in Kajang is one of the major
problem as affected the quality of water and
drainage system

•To overcome this problem:
•Maintenance to the sewerage
system to prevent from flood
problem.
•Maintaining the flow capacity of the
rivers and ensuring there is no
clogging.
•Constructions to be carried out
during appropriate season (practiced
before)
•Install silt trap during construction
like as Bandar Maharani did, or
provide treatment system for surface
water runoff (Melaka)

24. CONCLUSION
•Strategy for future growth within mixed use
communities of varied intensities as much as
supporting ‘completeness’ in planning for and
timely ‘completion’ of communities
•The public participation should assist in
achieving sustainable development in optimal
utilization of available resources
•Community programs will provide
opportunities for training for local authorities to
develop the skills needed
•The Kajang Municipal Council will require to
re-used the lands in the most efficient way
