The four basic tissues that compose all organs and structures in the body are epithelial, connective, muscle, and nervous tissue. Epithelial tissue covers external and internal surfaces and forms glands. Connective tissue binds and supports other tissues and forms structures like bone and cartilage. Muscle tissue is responsible for body movement and includes cardiac, skeletal, and smooth muscle. Nervous tissue forms the brain, spinal cord, and nerves.
