2. MY idea
A Regular middle class street, semidetached house. A boy (Sam) is sitting and playing with toys. He has a small toy of a boy
and a much larger toy of a girl, he makes the girl toy sit on and crush the little boy toy. But then he gets an action man to
come and push the woman off and run away with the small boy toy. Sam’s toys are taken from him as he is pulled up to his
feet by an older girl. Sam presses his back up against the door of the house, the dark haired girl reaches into her pocket grabs
some coins and puts them into the boy’s hand. She then opens the door and Sam falls back into the porch. The girl looks
down at Sam laughs happily and walks away closing the door behind her. Sam takes a breath, gets up grabs a coat and leaves
the house. Sam walks down the street with his head down, he walks fast and with a straight face. He walks until he reaches a
fence that leads to a field and behind that field is a wood. The wood is far away yet still looks imposing. He looks at the
wood and then continues to walk. He reaches small rundown looking shop. He enters and comes out with a translucent bag
with no labels or logos on it. He proceeds’ to walk and as he does, he takes a glance at his watch. After stopping for a second
he takes a right and starts to walk faster. Sam crosses the field and enters the woods. As he enters the dark shadowed woods
he is tiny in comparison to the huge trees. As he walks deeper into the woods begins to hear laughter and other muffled
sounds. He continues his journey deeper in to the woods. Sam turns his head quickly to try and find the source of the sound.
He sees two boys that look older than him. They are in the path that he is walking along and he quickly walks to the left to
avoid them. One of these boys races past him on a blue bike, and then the other on his bike. They are doing tricks and jumps
as they go past. Sam starts to breathe heavily. The boys continue to ride their bikes near the boy. One of the boys races past
him again. Sam turns sharply again. Sam hears a shout and one of the older boys races past knocking Sam down with one of
his pegs. Sam’s face hits the floor and the dirt on floor shifts. Sam rushes to gather his shopping, gets up and hobbles back
down the path he was just walking the other way on. His breathing becomes very heavy and fast. As he reaches the main path
he was originally on, one of the boys from the group he saw earlier appears, and shouts at him. At this point the one on the
bike races down the path. Sam sprints to the right and into the bushes. As he runs through the blindingly thick bush, his foot
falls into a hole and he falls down. He tries to get back to his feet but he falls again. The two older boys appear behind him.
Sam pleas, telling them not to hurt him, as he is struggling to breathe. They explain to him that they were trying to see if he
was alright after the bike knocked him down but accident. The boy gets out his puffer and uses it, his breathing begins to go
back to normal. He then gets up and goes to leave again to leave but the older boys see his pain and try and help him. Sam
fights them off, until he falls again and they pick him up and help him walk. They talk as they walk to where the boy needs to
go. As they walk light begins to shine through the branches of the once dark wood. As they approach a house Sam pushes the
older boys off and tries to walk alone. They run after him and try to help, but can’t. As they pick him up this time they notice
bruises and deep scrapes all up the boys arm. The two older boys look at each other. They sit the younger boy down on wall.
There’s a period of silence while the younger boy keeps his head down. One of the older boys squats down and asks the
younger boy if he needs them to come in. He has no reply.
3. Style
Genre: Realism Drama- An attempt to depict things in an art
form as they are in real life.
Camera and Editing: In the woods; Jumpy, horror style, use of
jump cuts. In the house at the start, slow movements, use of fades
not cuts.
Lighting: Shadowed, with beams of lights at certain points,
especially at the end to show the boys change of mind set.
Mise-en-scene: Costume- regular boys clothing with elements like
rips to show how he’s mistreated. In comparison the girls wears
nice designer brands.
4. Sound
Diegetic Sound (Sound that the characters in the film can hear):
The diegetic sound plays a key role in all realist pieces, and my
film is no different. My film does use this as the sound of silence
and natural noises makes a film very realist. At the beginning and
end there will quite a lot of non-diegetic sound, but the middle
section in the woods will be mainly diegetic. I feel this will build
tension and i can convey emotion using the natural sounds of the
environment.
Non Diegetic Sound (Sound only the audience can hear): Quite a
large amount of non diegetic sound for a a film from this genre.
Music plays a key role as it sets the scene along with the style
elements. My film will use some kind of sound track to open and
close the film. The music can convey emotional probably better
than anything else, so the use of it in these sections will bring all
