Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

Film pitch
1. Final Piece: Opening Sequence Pitch
Genre
We hope to make a thriller
More specifically, we would like to make a human
disappearance/psychological thriller.
Films that are included in this genre are: I Am Legend
and 28 Weeks Later.
I feel that this genre usually captivates viewers and
would be good to make.
2. Our idea:
Our character Hugo is a 16 year old boy living in an
empty world. He seeks the company of others but he
seems to be the last boy on earth until 1 day he
encounters a new life form. Is it good? Is it evil? Watch
and find out.
Our opening scene will establish a deserted world and
our main character.
3. Visual style
We will try and adopt the style of a film noir but with a
lighter edge. Some say it is called a “Film Gris”. We
hope that it will be edgy and gritty whilst maintaining
some humour to appeal to our young audience.
4. Group responsibilities:
Daniel: Director, cameraman and sound
Stewart: Lighting, actor, locations and editor in chief
We will both be screenwriters
