Rating: The BBFC permits the following within the bounds of the 15 certificate: Theme: No theme is prohibited, provided the treatment is appropriate to 15 year olds. Language: There may be frequent use of strong language; the strongest terms are only rarely acceptable. Continued aggressive use of strong language and sexual abuse is unacceptable. Nudity: There are no constraints on nudity in a non-sexual or educational context. Sex: Sexual activity and nudity may be portrayed but without strong detail. The depiction of casual sex should be handled responsibly. There may be occasional strong verbal references to sexual behaviour. Violence: Violence may be strong but may not dwell on the infliction of pain, and of injuries. Scenes of sexual violence must be discreet and brief. Imitable techniques: Dangerous combat techniques such as ear claps, head-butts and blows to the neck are unlikely to be acceptable. There may be no emphasis on the use of easily accessible lethal weapons (in particular, knives). Horror: Sustained or detailed infliction of pain or injury is unacceptable. Drugs: Drug taking may be shown but clear instructive detail is unacceptable. The film as a whole must not promote or encourage drug use.
The BBFC permits the following within the bounds of the 18 certificate: The BBFC respects the right of adults to chose their own entertainment, within the law. It will therefore expect to intervene only rarely in relation to '18' rated cinema films. In the case of videos, which are more accessible to younger viewers, intervention may be more frequent. There are no constraints at this level on theme, language, nudity or horror. The Board may, however, cut or reject the following content: - any detailed portrayal of violent or dangerous acts which is likely to promote the activity. This includes also instructive detail of illegal drug use - the more explicit images of sexual activity - unless they can be exceptionally justified by context Sex Education at '18': Where sex material genuinely seeks to inform and educate in matters such as human sexuality, safe sex and health, exceptions to the normal constraints on explicit images may be made in the public interest. Such explicit detail must be kept to the minimum necessary to illustrate the educational or instructional points being made. Sex Works at '18': Material which appears to be simulated is generally passed '18', while images of real sex are confined to the 'R18' category. (Guidelines of certification from www.screenonline.org.uk )
After reading through the guidelines we chose to rate our film as an 18. Our film isn’t able to be rated as a 15 as this would mean that we weren’t able to dwell on the infliction of pain or injuries, seeing that our film is to do with murder and the pain that our protagonist inflicts on others this wouldn’t be appropriate to cut this out.
Aim The aim of our trailer is to entice our audience into wanting to view the entire film once it is released. We intent to shock and partially scare our audience as this may encourage them want to know what the rest of the film is about and what happens and why certain scenes have occurred that they have seen in the teaser trailer. Narrative Elements Main Plot: The main plot of our film is concentrated on a young man who is influenced by playing many violent video games. He becomes so obsessed with the games that he starts to live it. Soon, negative things come out of his behaviour and he finds it acceptable to violently kill strangers and anybody who finds themselves in his way. In the end, this gets out of hand and he begins to kill these victims who are also people close to him in various ways that he has seen in his video games. Characters: Sam played by Darren Winter Imogene played by Hannah Morris Another victim played by Megan Morris
Narrative Codes Enigma: During the trailer we are trying to achieve various enigma codes such as what is obsession? What is reality? And where does the line between the two lie? Also, we try to achieve to question the audience What happens next? Symbolic codes: we are going to use various symbolic codes such as the rugged appearance of the main actor to symbolise that he is far too obsessed with playing the video game and not at all interested to take care or himself and personal hygiene. The actor will wear dark plain clothes to connote the fact that he has a dark attitude and a plain outlook on life. We also don’t want to reveal too much about his personality through printed clothing as that may reveal his interests and we chose to keep this hidden. The actress will be wearing pink to show that she lives a normal life with bright colours to enhance the fact that she doesn’t live the same way he does and has an outside view on his life.
Mise-en-scene: Costume: The main actor, Sam, will be wearing plain dark trousers and t-shirt. This is to emphasise he doesn’t spend much time or effort on clothes or appearance and more interested in playing the video game. The main actress, Imogene, will be dressed in something brighter with more colours. A bright pink t-shirt will connote the normal life she leads and her personality is much brighter than Sam’s. Body Language: Sam’s body language will be very stiff with not much movement to show how he is transfixed with the game and unaware of outside life. Imogene’s body language will be average to show she doesn’t see what Sam see’s in the video game. She will be much more cheery yet concerned about Sam’s behaviour. Colour: Throughout our trailer we will be using dark, gloomy colours to create a sense of mystery and suspense. Being in darkness will add atmosphere that will enhance the viewing of the audience.
Lighting Artificial: Throughout the whole teaser trailer we will not purposely be using any artificial lighting as we want the horror to seem very realistic this is also due to the fact that we want our characters to seem real, creating an uncertainty about the trailer as well as the possible uncertainty about the real world as everyone has an obsession. The only artificial lighting that may be within the teaser trailer is possibly the lighting within the house, candle light and the light from the game the character is so obsessed with. Natural: Many of the filming will take place within the evening as dusks is neither day nor night indicating that he is neither in reality or in his imagination, creating a strong link within is obsession and within the reality he should be living in. The natural lighting we hope will cause a certain atmospheric element within the teaser trailer.
[object Object],[object Object],[object Object],[object Object],[object Object],[object Object]
Sets: During our film we will not be using any artificially made sets just for the purpose of our horror. We will be using public places so the locations and sets will be already established these are all freely available so it will help with the organisation because as a group we have decided on what we feel are the right locations for each scene.
Locations: During the horror trailer we will be using many locations in which we will film the various shots of our film. Each of these locations will be in a variety of places and therefore more freely available to everyone in the group. Each member of our group will do some background research to search for the best locations in which we can film in to create a certain atmospheric convention.
Non Diegetic Material: During the very teaser trailer there will be many black screens showing the titles of all the characters and actors as well as the director, producer and writer. The titles however of the actors, characters, directors, producer and the writers names will only be shown on one single screen at the very end of the teaser trailer not influencing the audiences opinions of the film due to the actors within it. The only other titles shown throughout the trailer will have ansynronous sounds in the background like the narration, music and possibly dialogue. These titles will be on black screens they will give the audience a hint of what could be going on in the characters minds and from within the film/ trailer itself. Non Diegetic Sound and Music: During the trailer there will be different pieces of music to help create the atmosphere and mood of the scene. Each piece of music will have to fit in with the mood of the scene and of the look and attitude the characters.
Dialogue: During the trailer there will be narration to help link each different clip of the trailer. The narrator of the trailer we are hoping will have a deep voice to create and atmospheric sense. He will be saying “Everyone has an obsession, but how do you know when obsession becomes reality”. This will be said hen the translation form the black screen writing to the clips occurs.
Diegetic Sound: During the trailer there will be a few pieces of diegetic sound like the screaming, the game sounds and the laughter shown through the trailer. The screams we hope will be very lingering and chilling to send shivers through the film and trailer to the audience to create a fear of what is happening. The game sounds will just be very typical to create not only realism within the film but also fear within the film. The eerie laughter will create an uncertain atmosphere playing on the no image yet sound atmosphere as everybody is afraid of something they can here but cannot see.
Logistics Travel: Each location for our trailer is in a convenient location for each member of our group to travel to. As the locations are further away from our houses we have all decided to travel together to enable everyone to find the correct location to create the atmosphere needed for our trailer.

  • 10.
  • 11. Sets: During our film we will not be using any artificially made sets just for the purpose of our horror. We will be using public places so the locations and sets will be already established these are all freely available so it will help with the organisation because as a group we have decided on what we feel are the right locations for each scene.
  • 12. Locations: During the horror trailer we will be using many locations in which we will film the various shots of our film. Each of these locations will be in a variety of places and therefore more freely available to everyone in the group. Each member of our group will do some background research to search for the best locations in which we can film in to create a certain atmospheric convention.
  • 16. Logistics Travel: Each location for our trailer is in a convenient location for each member of our group to travel to. As the locations are further away from our houses we have all decided to travel together to enable everyone to find the correct location to create the atmosphere needed for our trailer.
