The masthead is in black it gives the magazine a
sophisticated look and it also stands out against the white
background. The masthead is behind the image of Tom,
this shows the magazine success because half of the
masthead is hidden behind the image and shows the
audience can still tell what magazine it is.

The magazine website, issue
date and number are
present here just above the
‘M’ in total film. It
effectively makes use of the
space .

‘The world’s best movie magazine’ has
been positioned at a canted angle to
catch the attention oft the audience.
Also, the red colour of the stars around
the outside echo the red of the blood on
Tom’s face.
The variety of font colours and font sizes
really captures the audience attention.
All the text is aligned to the left. On the
title ‘Special Edition’ this will lure the
Harry Potter fans to buy the magazine as
they won’t find what Total Film has in
the article. As Tom is not in his
characters outfit from Harry, this shows
the audience that in the article he will
be talking about his personal life but
also about the movie as the sell line says
‘Potter’ which suggest it includes some
information about the movie, this
means the audience are getting the best
of both worlds.
The bar code here is on its side which makes
the magazine look stylish and smart. It is also
an efficient way of saving the image of Tom
Felton that we see on the front and using up
disused space. If it was horizontal, we would
lose some of the image and there would be a
blank space.

Using Tom Felton on the front cover, the
audience know the magazine includes
something about Harry Potter so it lures in
Harry Potter fans.
The blue and white colour scheme suits the
magazine cover because Tom Felton's’ eyes are
blue and the suit his wearing has a slight blue
tint to it. Also, his skin is quite pale but has
been enhanced to be made to look even paler
through strong lighting or by editing means
later on. This brings out the blood that is
splashed on his face. The blue connotes a cold
feeling and a masculine look.
The blood on Toms face effectively gives a
menacing look and feel. Also, his eye contact
creates a chilling atmosphere, the direct
address lures the audience as the look his
giving make the audience feel as if you
shouldn't mess with him.
The text here is aligned to the right to look
good against the right hand side of the page.
Also, the text has been restricted to 2 words
or less per line so that it takes up more space
and looks busy.

As he is wearing a suit it looks
formal but because his hands
are in his pockets it creates an
informal feel to the magazine.
The date and price are in a small font near the
masthead. The price is in a small font because the front
cover attracts the target audience before they find out
how much it costs. The price is £3.99 which is expensive
for a magazine yet it denotes the quality of the
magazine.

The tagline of the magazine reads ‘The
world’s biggest movie magazine’ which will
attract potential readers because it
guarantees quality as it states its
popularity. The colour of the tagline is the
same as the masthead and it is in a small
font so it doesn't draw attention away
from the masthead.

The masthead is the biggest text on
the front cover and is in the boldest
colour so people will be drawn to it
as it stands out above everything
else. It covers the image so it does
not appear inferior to the central
image.

The phrase ‘Bloody hell’ on the front cover is
the puff and the audience are navigated here
by the bright * on the opposite side of the
front cover. It is a well know phrase that
makes the magazine cover more appealing to
the target audience plus it has a comical
double meaning which is shown in the
statement below. This statement equally
stands out as it is in another bright colour
against the dull background..

The point on the poster which arouses
curiosity is the statement of ‘45 new
movies you need to know about right
now’. The use of the word ‘need’ implies
to the target audience that it is necessary
that they know this information and they
will be missing out if they don't read the
magazine.
The image is of Harry Potter and he is looking
directly into the camera which engages the
target audience as they have eye contact with
the character that features in the magazine.
This gives the audience a sense that the feature
containing Harry Potter will be more about the
film than the personal like of the actor. This
would attract the audience as it appeals to their
interests. Harry’s facial expression denote a
look of fear and awareness which connotes that
the next film he is starring in is dark and serious.
The lighting is only on one side of his face which
casts doubt on his character as the audience
feel they are not seeing Harry in his true light.

The magazine includes their we address so the
target audience of film lovers can find out
more exclusive news about new releases and
more. It is positioned under and is in the same
colour as the masthead yet it does not steal
any focus from the central image or sell lines
because it is in a small font. The website is
simply the name of the magazine so it is easy
to remember and instantly recognisable.

A barcode is included on the front cover so it
can be processed when purchased and
therefore the presence of a bar code denotes
professionalism. It is positioned at the
bottom right of the magazine so it does not
invade the left side third and it does not steal
focus from any other feature.

The image in the left hand side is smaller
so doesn't take the attention away from
the main image. The characters in the
image are both male and female which
appealing to both genders and are also
from different genres including action and
sci-fi.

The strip at the bottom is one of the last things that
the audience look at because of its positioning. The
text is the same font as most of the other text which
doesn't make it stand out because it fits in with the
rest of the layout as well as fact that it also fits in
with the same colour scheme that has been
established.
