Warp Films is an independent film company based in Sheffield and London that was founded by Warp Records. They produce small, low-budget films that reflect British culture and challenge social stereotypes. Their films have a niche audience in England but have also found success abroad. Some of their award-winning films include My Wrongs, Dead Man's Shoes, This is England, and Four Lions. In contrast, Warner Bros. is a large American studio founded in 1905 that produces mass audience films across all genres to appeal to as wide a demographic as possible and prioritizes profit over artistic risks.

2. WARP FILMS
Warp films is a film company based in Sheffield and London. It was
founded by Warp Records and funded by NESTA, by Rob Mitchell
and Steve Beckett; after the death of Rob Mitchell in 2001, Beckett
continued the company with help from a Sheffield friend Mark
Herbert who had experience as a producer for Channel 4.
Their first film, “My Wrongs”, won Best Short
Film in 2003 at the BAFTAS. Their next film
got a BAFTA nomination, nominated for 8
different British Independent Film Awards.
It has been hailed as a landmark in British Film.

3. Genre
Warp films generally never stray into the extremely fictional side of movies, like sci -fi or
fantasy, and tend to stay more realistic and reflect verisimilitude. This is because Warp is an
independent company with a method of small budget, quick production. They often don’t
have the time or money to produce special effects or to produce a film of epic scale.
They also tend to challenge some sort of social stereotype or taboo; their film ‘Four Lions’
especially focused on terrorism and racial representation.
They are very stylized to their own heritage; the music, clothes and lifestyle reflects the
culture of Warp film’s home, and those watching outside of this area may not fully appreciate
or understand the nature of the films they make. Therefore, their films will include many
referential codes.
Their aim is to bring art audiences and mainstream audiences together.

4. Audience
Because of Warp film’s very stylized image and cultural ties, it’s no
surprise that they would have a niche audience, specifically coming
from the area they are representing. Their audience is overall English,
and the most loyal fans originate from Sheffield, the company's
birthplace.
The films they make have an indie, art house feel about them; this
could attract an audience that enjoy this, even from overseas.
American’s are typically infatuated with British culture (e.g Sherlock
is a BBC Drama that is extremely popular in America), and Warp Films
have benefitted from distributing their films overseas.

6. WARNER BROS.
Warner Bros. Entertainment is an American film, music and TV
production company. They create, produce, distribute, license, and
market many types of media. It was founded by brothers Harry,
Albert, Sam, and Jack Warner in 1905. Harry, Albert and Sam started
in the movie theatre business after purchasing a film projector. In
192, they informally opened Warner Bros studio on Sunset Boulevard.
But in 1923, with help from the bank, they officially incorporated as
Warner Brothers Pictures, Incorporated.
The companies library has over 61,000 hours of programming,
and targets a mass audience.

7. Genre
Warner Bros specializes in films that will target a mass audience. This
means that it produces films from all genres to cater to as many
people as possible, so to not limit their demographic. Sometimes
they will make a film of a specific genre because there is a social
trend or they know it will be poplar (films like 300 and Troy were
made and released very close to each other).
Some of their films may be made to challenge society and to raise
issues, but Warner Bros do not like to take risks, as it could
jeopardies revenue.
A selection of their biggest films in 2013 are The Great Gatsby, The
Hangover Part III, Man of Steel, Pacific Rim, We’re the Millers, and
The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug.

8. Audience
Warner Bros do not have a specific audience, because they would
rather focus on profit than the actual product being release. If you
make your film more refined and identifiable, your target audience
will get smaller. To make this as big as possible (and therefore a
larger profit), WB make their films to cater to every audience. From
children’s films to horror flicks, Warner Bros makes something for
everyone.
