This document summarizes different types of rocks found near Parkfield, California. It describes sedimentary rocks like marine sediment containing seashells over 10 million years old. Igneous rocks discussed include volcanic rocks with gas pockets and different types of granite. A metamorphic rock sample is described as a Calaveras formation containing some marble. The document is thankful to a geologist for providing information and showing the rock samples.

2. Sedimentary RocksThis rock is an example of sedimentary rocks. You can find rocks like this one in the Monterey area. This rock happens to be an example of marine sediment if you look closely you will see sea shells in it. This rock is over 10 million years old.

3. Sedimentary Rocks cont…This is Franciscan formation radiolargynChert. As you can see the top one is green and the bottom one is a reddish color. The top is green because it does not have oxygen and the bottom one is red because it does have oxygen. These rocks are 150 million years old.

4. Igneous RocksThese rock off to the right are volcanic rocks. The one on top is a black volcanic gas rock with BIG gas pockets. When you see this rock in person you can see the glassy look. The Rock on the bottom is a basalt gas pocket rock and they are much smaller then the rock above.

5. Igneous Rocks cont…This is granite. All three of those rocks off to the right are granite. The one to the far left is granite and has more quartz in it and is much smoother and the one in the middle is a little darker and the one to the far right is more fine.

6. Metamorphic RocksThis rock is an example of a metamorphic rock. It is a Calaveras formation and has some marble in it.
