At the Book Fair you will find the latest
and finest titles for kids, as well as
books of interest to parents.

Reading- Bigger Books, Bigger Reading Muscles; Make sure you are reading 20 minutes every
night and turning in your reading log on Monday for a prize! Use reading strategies such as
pointing to each word, re-reading, checking the picture, and finding sight words to help your
child become a better reader!
Writing- How –To: Writing to Teach Others; We are working on making books that teach How-
To do something such as How-To Pop Popcorn and How –To Read A Story
Math- How Many Now? Work on recognizing numbers 1-15 and counting to 75!
Science/S.S. - Structure and Function: Human Body; Dental Health

Don’t forget to read 100 minutes every week and study your sight words! 
Some Ways You Can Help Your Child at Home
Reading: When your child gets stuck on a word, have them use their
strategies to help them fix it! Have them describe the characters in their
books.
Math: Practice addition and subtraction problems.
Writing: Help your child come up with adventures their made-up characters
could go on!
Science/ Social Studies: Watch videos with your child about light and
sound.
Writing: Have your child ask a question about how
things work and then use the Scientific Method to
answer the question.
Reading: Find out what interests your child and
take a trip to the library to learn more about that
topic!
Math: Start at a random number and count
by 10s. Example: 56, 66, 76, 86, 96…
Physical Science: Talk about solids, liquids and
gases that you see at your house.
A note from 3rd grade teachers-
We have been learning to fall in love with
new characters. We have been getting to
know our character by the way that they
talk and act. We get to celebrate OUR
character or A character by dressing up and
parading through the school! Please come join
us on Friday February 8, 2019 at 9am.

Reading:
We are in the middle of our American Revolution Unit!! We are
studying the text features of non-fiction and learning how to
collect information across multiple texts.
Writing:
The students are writing books based on their
research of the American Revolution. This is so
exciting for us! Each book for have multiple
chapters: an all-about the war, a historical fiction
chapter, and a chapter dedicated to their research
on a smaller battle.
Math:
We are working on our addition and subtraction
skills! We are working with LARGE numbers!
Please keep studying multiplication facts at home!
5th Grade

Reading- Readers use everything
they know about nonfiction
reading and research to learn all
they can about one aspect of
Westward Expansion.
Writing- Students will learn
the foundations of research
report writing. Students will
learn to use research skills to
deepen their knowledge of a
topic.
Science- Project Lead the Way-
Robotics
Math- Students are working on
developing an understanding of
decimals and the base-10 number
system. Students will represent
decimals on grids and number lines
and use their understanding of
decimals to compare, add, and
subtract.
Social Studies- Students will
continue to study Westward
Expansion and consider
● What ideas, events, conflicts,
and resolutions shaped the new
nation?
● How have the forces of expansion
shaped the nation and impacted
different groups?
