How it works…
uUse language to express and justify
an opinion, to agree and disagree etc.
In Part 4 of the test, which lasts about 4
minutes, the examiner will join both
candidates in a discussion about the
general topic that appeared in Part 3.
Try to show real examples in order to
justify your ansewers.
Tips!
Again, as with earlier sections of the test,
avoid short, 'yes', 'no' answers to the
examiner's questions.
Make sure you extend your answers with, e.g:
reasons, examples…
Continue to work with your partner. Respond
constructively and show interest in things he or
she says.
Remember you can respond to what your
partner says in their answers.
Sometimes the examiner will ask you to
discuss a question together and this may lead
to a discussion between you. This may last
more than one turn each, which is fine.
If you don’t know the answer, al teast try to
justify “why”: I don’t know what Italy is like, I’ve
never been abroad but I think it must be really
beautiful and nice to live there. I’d love to go to
European cities.
What if I don’t know what else
to say
 Don’t stop talking under any circumstances, make
sure you talk all the time (weather you agree or not,
use personal examples o general opinions)
 Use fillers:
- Well, ….
- Let me think….
- Let me see….
- I mean….
- So….
Take advantage of this
section… (complex)
 I love my dog, and I know he loves me, he is very
happy all the time
 I’m so fond of my dog, he will wag his tail happily
whenever he sees me, he never grunts or anything
 Yes, I want to go abroad next year, I know I will
love it
 I just can’t wait to go abroad next year, I’m really
looking forward to it
