A prefix is a letter or a group of letters added to the beginning of a word to change
its meaning. The prefixes in- and un- mean “not.” A suffix is a letter or a group of
letters added to the end of a word to change its meaning. The suffix -ly turns an

Analyze Literature: Rhyme
Rhyme is the repetition of sounds in words. Often we first notice end rhymes, the
use of rhyming words at the ends of lines. When a poem has a consistent pattern
of end rhymes, it is said to have a rhyme scheme. The rhyme scheme in “Father
William” is abab.
