From PowerShell Function to Serverless code with Azure FunctionsJaap Brasser
A practical session on how we can move our existing code to the Cloud. What can be re-used? Which code should we leave in our existing silos?
These questions will be answered in this session focussed on what Serverless means for our PowerShell code. The approach we will take is as follows: we will take our existing code and transfer into Serverless code using Azure Functions; we evaluate changes or optimizations to take into account and how can we maximize the benefits of using Serverless.
Join us and find out!

Working with PowerShell is often a joyous occasion, working with the latest and greatest technologies. Remoting from Linux to Windows and back again with the greatest ease, it is an interesting time to be involved with PowerShell. But what if you are in a situation where you do not have PowerShell remoting available, or not accessible because of firewall rules. Or even worse, you are in a virus outbreak and you need access to all systems to remediate a vulnerability. In this session I will go over what we can do in those scenarios, I will show how to connect to such systems and retrieve structured objects and execute and monitor code running on those systems.

Single Page Applications: Your Browser is the OS!Jeremy Likness
Single Page Applications have gained tremendous popularity over the past few years and have prompted the creation of several frameworks to support their development. Unlike traditional web applications, most of the heavy lifting for SPA happens on the client side in your web browser. These applications rely on hundreds of lines of JavaScript coupled with asynchronous web service calls to provide a desktop-like experience that is accessible from virtually any device.
Join Principal Architect, Jeremy Likness, to learn more about SPA, including how to determine when you should choose this approach, how SPA compares and contrasts with traditional server-based approaches including ASP.NET WebForms and MVC, and what frameworks and tools (such as jQuery, AngularJS, and Aurelia) make building SPA easier. Discover how single page applications powered by HTML5 and JavaScript transform your browser into a web-based operating system.

In its time, ASP.NET MVC has started a revolution within Microsoft, not just regarding the web application development model, but for including the third-party open source libraries which was unthinkable in Microsoft world until that point. However, it’s time to upgrade. ASP.NET is a modern multi-platform web framework built from scratch, with a similar development model to its predecessor. It marks a new revolution - Microsoft totally adopting open source. In this talk we’ll go over the advantages of the new framework, what should we care about when migrating to Core, the problems we might encounter, tips & tricks for migration process and the differences between these two platforms.
Neuro-symbolic is not enough, we need neuro-*semantic*Frank van Harmelen
Neuro-symbolic (NeSy) AI is on the rise. However, simply machine learning on just any symbolic structure is not sufficient to really harvest the gains of NeSy. These will only be gained when the symbolic structures have an actual semantics. I give an operational definition of semantics as “predictable inference”.
All of this illustrated with link prediction over knowledge graphs, but the argument is general.

Epistemic Interaction - tuning interfaces to provide information for AI supportAlan Dix
Paper presented at SYNERGY workshop at AVI 2024, Genoa, Italy. 3rd June 2024
https://alandix.com/academic/papers/synergy2024-epistemic/
As machine learning integrates deeper into human-computer interactions, the concept of epistemic interaction emerges, aiming to refine these interactions to enhance system adaptability. This approach encourages minor, intentional adjustments in user behaviour to enrich the data available for system learning. This paper introduces epistemic interaction within the context of human-system communication, illustrating how deliberate interaction design can improve system understanding and adaptation. Through concrete examples, we demonstrate the potential of epistemic interaction to significantly advance human-computer interaction by leveraging intuitive human communication strategies to inform system design and functionality, offering a novel pathway for enriching user-system engagements.

• Clean HTML and clean URLs
• Separation of concerns!!! – You will love it!
• Testable – Big win
10. How it serves Requests? • Controller contains Action
methods
• Every Action method can return
a View (and raw json and other
formats)
11. MVC Routing
• Routing is the magic component!
• Directs incoming requests to an MVC Controller
• Defines routes during application startup
• Map URLs to control action with parameters
• System.Web.Routing Binary – Part of ASP.NET
