Loom is machine or device which is used to produce woven fabric. It is the central point of whole process of cloth production. In other word, a loom is a mechanism or tool used for weaving yarn and thread into textiles. Looms vary in a wide assortment of sizes. They come in huge free standing hand looms, tiny hand-held frames, to vast automatic mechanical tools. A loom can as well pertain to an electric line construction like that of a wiring loom. The main task of looms is to clutch the twist threads under pressure to enable the progress of interweaving of the woof strands. The loom's system and exact form can differ to some extent; however it still performs the basic application.

Methods of Pattern Making
Pattern making involves three methods-
Drafting
Draping
Flat paper pattern making
Drafting
It involves measurements derived from sizing systems or accurate measurements taken on a person, dress or body form.
Measurements for chest, waist, hip and so on, and ease allowances are marked on paper and construction lines are drawn to complete the pattern.
Drafting is used to create basic, foundation or design patterns.
MEASUREMENTS
Bust – measure just under the arms around the fullest part of chest.Waist – measure around narrowest part of torso.High Hip – measure 6 inches [15.5 cm] below waist around the hips.Back-waist length – measure from nape of neck to waist levelShoulder length – measure shoulder from ball socket to side of neck.Armhole depth – measure from nape of neck to under arm level.Back width – measure from armhole to armhole across shoulder blades.Neck – measure around base of neck.
Tools use for Drafting
A: Tape Measure
B: Seam Ripper
C: Fine Point Sharpie Marker
D: Tracing Wheel
E: Rotary Cutter
Contin……..
G: Tracing Paper
F: Fabric Scissors
H: Scotch Tape
I: Clear Rulers
J: Right Angle
K: Curved Rulers
Draping
It involves the draping of a two dimensional piece of fabric around a form, conforming to its shape, creating a three-dimensional fabric pattern.
Ease allowances for movement are added to make the garment comfortable to wear.
However, it is more expensive and time consuming than flat pattern making.
Draping can be made on a Human body or on a stand.
Advantage of draping is that the designer can see the overall design effect of the finished garment on the body form before the garment piece is cut and sewn.
Flat Pattern Making
It involves the development of a fitted basic pattern with comfort ease to fit a person or body form.
A sloper is the starting point for flat pattern designing.
It is a simple pattern that fits the body with just enough ease for movement and comfort. Five basic pattern pieces are used for women’s clothing.
They include a snug-fitting bodice front and bodice back with darts and a basic neckline, a sleeve and a fitted skirt front and back with darts.
However, as fashion changes frequently women’s styles fluctuate frequently.
These basic slopers are then manipulated to create fashions.
Nowadays draping is also tested by Computer aid techniques.
A basic sloper has no seam allowances, which facilitates its manipulations to various styles.
It has no design interest, only construction lines are marked on it.
It is necessary that the basic structure of a sloper should be such that adjustments can be introduced easily.
For a good pattern making, accurate measurements are of utmost importance.

Deep Understanding of Semiotics of Fashion T Shirt Plus.pptxTShirtPlus2
Semiotics of fashion reveals something about who we are. They are extensions of our individuality and creativity and can serve as a means of expression. They mirror not only us but also the society in which we reside.
Each piece of clothing is wrapped in symbolism expressed in the garment’s form, color choice, fabric, and even the wearer. Semiotic fashion is an ever-changing medium, and by examining pieces, we may learn a great deal about the individuals who lived before us and their civilization.
The short answer is yes. The extraordinary success of Karl Ove Knausgård and Elena Ferrante in recent years is proof that fiction from other lands has a global following. Last year a new report from Literature Across Frontiers (LAF) finally put some figures on this. The statistics show a steady growth of literary translations over the past two decades, both in absolute numbers and as a share of the whole. The number of literary translations into English grew by two-thirds between 1990 and 2012, accounting for a peak of 5.23% of the whole in 2011 against an average of just 3%. Specialist foreign-fiction publishers, such as Quercus, Pereine and Pushkin, have all sprung up in the past decade or so.

4. Protection
Clothing insulates from the cold and
keeps the sun from burning and
dehydrating the body in the heat.
Construction workers, firefighters, and
police officers need special clothing for
protection.
Hospital workers wear gloves and
facemasks to protect themselves from
contamination.
5. Identification
Clothing and accessories can
identify people as members of a
group.
Uniforms can help us identify
hotel staff, airline personnel, etc.
Uniforms also identify athletic
teams.
What type of uniforms would
identify each of the following?
Baseball player
Hockey player
Tennis player
Football player
Golfer
6. Modesty
Modesty: reserved in the way one
speaks, DRESSES, or behaves.
Various cultures have different
standards or beliefs about acceptable
ways to cover the body with clothes.
What is considered modest can be
different for men and women.
Different time periods in history have
varying degrees of modesty in clothing.
7. Status
Clothing and accessories can show a
person’s status or rank within a group.
Members of the military or the
captain of a team might wear insignias
(a badge or emblem) to indicate rank
or status.
Clothes or accessories might be used
as status symbols by ordinary people.
8. Adornment
Decorations, such as clothing, jewelry,
and cosmetics, that are worn to enhance
appearance and attract attention.
Adornment is used in some cultures to
bring admiration and recognition.
Example: henna
10. The major fashion centers and fashion theories
The cities considered the global "Big Four" fashion capitals
of the 21st century are Milan, London, New York, and
Paris.
Since the 16th century, Milan has been regarded as the
Fashion Capital of the World.
Historically, several cities have been, in turn, fashion
capitals.
Fashion involves :-
Change
Novelty
The context of time
Place
Wearer
11. Fashion
The simultaneous introduction and display of
many new styles, the selections made by the:-
innovative consumer, and
the notion of the expression of the spirit of the times
provide impetus for fashion.
Central to any definition of fashion is the
relationship between the designed product and
how it is distributed and consumed.
12. The Flow of Fashion
The distribution of fashion has been described as:-
A movement
A flow
Trickle from one element of society to another.
The diffusion of influences from center to periphery may be
conceived of in hierarchical or in horizontal terms,
such as the trickle-down, trickle-across, or trickle-up theories.
13. Trickle down
The oldest theory of distribution is the trickle-down theory
described by Veblen in 1899.
To function, this trickle-down movement depends upon a
hierarchical society and a striving for upward mobility among
the various social strata.
In this model, a style is first offered and adopted by people at
the top strata of society and gradually becomes accepted by
those lower in the strata (Veblen; Simmel; Laver).
14.
15. Trickle down
This distribution model assumes a social hierarchy in which
people seek to identify with the affluent and those at the top
seek both distinction and, eventually, distance from those
socially below them.
Fashion is considered a vehicle of conspicuous consumption
and upward mobility for those seeking to copy styles of dress.
Once the fashion is adopted by those below, the affluent reject
that look for another.
16. Trickle across
Proponents of the trickle-across theory claim that fashion
moves horizontally between groups on similar social levels
In the trickle-across model, there is little lag time between
adoption from one group to another.
Evidence for this theory occurs when designers show a look
simultaneously at prices ranging from the high end to lower
end ready-to-wear.
17. Trickle up
The trickle-up or bubble-up pattern is the newest of the
fashion movement theories.
In this theory the innovation is initiated from the street, so to
speak, and adopted from lower income groups.
The innovation eventually flows to upper-income groups;
thus the movement is from the bottom up.
18. Trickle up
Examples of the trickle-up theory of fashion distribution
include a very early proponent, Chanel, who believed fashion
ideas originated from the streets and then were adopted by
couture designers.
Many of the ideas she pursued were motivated by her
perception of the needs of women for functional and
comfortable dress.
Following World War II the young discovered Army/Navy
surplus stores and began to wear pea jackets and khaki pants.
19. Product Innovation
A new look may be the result of innovations in the products
of dress, the way they are put together, or the type of
behaviour bring out by the manner of dressing.
A fashionable look involves the form of clothing on the
human body and its potential for meaning (DeLong 1998).
Meaning can derive from the product, but meaning can also
develop from ways of wearing the product, or from the body
itself (Entwistle 2000).
Fashionable dress embodies the latest aesthetic and what is
defined as desirable at a given moment.
20. Activity
Prepare a Spec Sheet based upon any community
using anyone of the following theory
Trickle-down
Trickle-across
Trickle-up
21. Points to Ponder
Write a note on clothing as modesty
Which types of clothing is used as Protection
Explain about the clothing involves in status
and religious
Explain in detail about fashion theories
