How is the BA course?
The BA course has its pro's and con's. Plus they are revamping the course and the
syllabus so one can never really be sure what to expect.
I hear that it has more impetus on philology and linguistics than English literature. Is
that true?
The course structure is being revamped. I can only give you what it was like
before. We had four papers each semester. Three papers each from ELE
(English Language Education), Linguistics and Literature. The fourth one will
be a Foreign Language for the first four semesters and you'll have optional
subjects in the last two.

the faculty?
We have classes from 9-1 from Monday-Friday and 3-5pm, 3 days a week.
The evening classes were the foreign languages classes. The work load is
pretty light and you can pursue other interests meanwhile. The faculty is
competent though as is the case of any other institution not every teacher is the
best nor the worst.
Do we get accommodation? What is the atmosphere like? How is the network
between juniors and seniors?
Yes. We do get accommodation. Hostel facility is there. You've two mess
facilities catering to the hostels. The atmosphere is very bright and no ragging
at all.
Which foreign language is the easiest?
The easiest one is said to be Spanish. If majority of students apply for a
particular foreign language, the entrance exam marks will be taken into
account. You'll have the option to choose from as many as 5-6 Foreign
Languages.
What about the holidays? Do we need to vacate the hostels during vacations? Can one
stay then?
We have a vacation of 3 months (May, June and July) for summer break and 1
month (Dec) for winter break. You can stay on in December if you wish to.
But the summer break you'll have to vacate.
Till what time are the hostels open?
Hostels are open 24*7 with no restrictions except that boys are allowed in
Girls hostel only from 8 AM to 10 PM.
What are the kinds of sports facilities available? How is the library?
Sports are rather constrained due to lack of space, but we still have two
badminton courts and a cricket-football-volleyball combined, all in one
ground. We have two cricket tournaments and one each from the other
disciplinesmentioned.
The library is known to be the best for Linguistics in India and even Asia. It is
competent in other areas as well.
Any clubs on campus? (Literary club, quiz club etc.)
The extracurricular activities are restricted to festival celebrations and
occasional programs. A dance club has started last January on campus and has
been running smoothly ever since. A student theatre group also functions on
campus and already have half a dozen performances under their name.
