Day 2 focuses on introducing students to the book "Celebrate the 50 States". The teacher will play a podcast of the book while students follow along. Then a song about the 50 states and capitals will be played twice, with students singing along to learn the first 12 states.
1. Day 2- Tuesday
I.
Analyze Learners
The group I am focusing on is students in a third class between the ages of 8 and 9. In this unit I
plan on focusing on the 50 states and their capitals. Some students may already know some of
the 50 states and their capitals, but some may not know any of the states and their capitals. I plan
to make sure every student enjoys the activities and lesson, but at the same time learning.
II.
State Objective
Day two will be about more introducing the bookCelebrate the 50 States. I will then play my
podcast of the book Celebrate the 50 States. Once I have read the book and introduced all the 50
states and their capitals, I will play a song of YouTube of the 50 states and capitals. Once they
listen to it the first time, I will play it a second time and we will begin learning the first 12 states
and sing along to the song. I will also play my YouTube video of the 50 states and capitals.
III.
Select Methods, Materials & Media
For this lesson I will have each student a hard copy of the book, then I will play my podcast
while they follow along in their books. After that I will play the song of YouTube, so we can
begin learning the 50 states and their capitals.
IV.
Utilize Media & Materials
For this assignment I will use my podcast of the book The 50 States and Capitals before we read
2. the book aloud. After the students have listened to my podcast and read the book aloud we will
then listen to the song YouTube. Once we have listened to the song we can begin singing along
to the song, so they can learn the first 12 states and each day we will add more states to the song
and sing them all from the beginning.
V.
Require Learners Participation
The students will be required to pay attention and listen to the video. Then keep track and read
along in their hard copies while the podcast reads the book and maybe write down words that
seem unfamiliar to them to discuss after we have read the book.
VI.
Evaluate & Revise
At the end of the lesson day two there will again be no formal assessment; however, I will
continue my notes from the previous day, taking notes on particular students that may be
encountering problems throughout the course of the lesson.
