Esmeralda Cuevas's father came to the United States from Michoacán, Mexico in 1979 to find better job opportunities and support his family. Ten years later, after her father was more stable, her mother and three siblings came to reunite with her father and create a better life with more opportunities. Both of Esmeralda's parents had limited education in Mexico, with her mother only attending school until 3rd grade and her father until 6th grade, as education was very expensive. Esmeralda's family now lives in Ontario, California, having moved there for more space as their family grew.

3.  My father came here in 1979 from Michoacán,
Mexico to have a better job opportunity so that
he could better support my mother and my
three older siblings that were still living over
there at the time. He came over here and knew
people who helped him get a job and guided
him until he finally became more stable.

4.  My mother came here to the united states 10
years after my father. She came here after my
father was more stable, and they were finally
able to get a house. She arrived with my three
siblings to reunite with my father and to create
a better life for them here, where she knew they
would have more opportunity and a better life.

5.  For my mother and father growing up was
hard. They both grew up n the same place, in
fact, they were actually neighbors. That is how
they met. Education was very expensive and
my mother only went to school until the 3rd
grade before she had to take on greater
responsibility. My father only went to 6th
because of how expensive it was, and he also
had to work and care for his family at a very
early age. School was almost impossible.

16.  First we moved to Pomona before I was born
 Then Montclair since I was born untill the age
of 2
 After that to Ontario since the age of 2 till the
age of 13
 We Moved again from when I was 13 till
present.
 We Moved a total of 4 times.

17.  We moved to montclair to move in with my
uncle who bought a house.
 Then to ontario to have our own house.
 Finally to the last house for bigger space to
accommodate to our growing family.

18.  Now we are still living in the city of ontario in
the state of california.

19.  Because of where we came from we fall under
the fourth wave
 Although we fall under the fourth, wave my
parents came here during the fifth wave which
falls under 1950 till present.

21.  I personally think that this a very interesting
project. I am very excited for the next parts of
the assignment where I get to interview my
parents and learn all about their history and
reasoning for coming here the the United
States.
