Evaluation of a Support Project for Young Carers aged under 18 years in rural Ireland. Young carers are vulnerable to social exclusion, early school leaving and reduced life chances when caring impacts significantly on their lives. Data collected through surveys of the young carers and of associates among fellow service providers across the region reveal what they think of a pioneering project to support children and teenagers caring for loved ones. Highlights the need to continue funding this project beyond its current end date of 31 March 2017.
A flagship CTO event, this has grown into a platform for knowledge-sharing among peer groups steering ICT projects in e-delivery of health care, education and governance. This Forum echoes the Commonwealth's 2013 theme: The Road Ahead for Africa.

I have observed how Sunday Friends is positively influencing the lives of less fortunate families and how it helps the families to move from the state of being needy and feeling helpless to the state of taking control of their lives, helping others and becoming valuable members of the community.
As an avid photographer I wanted to share this story with you. These photos are candid shots of the participants and are taken during the Sunday Friends programs.
On 7th December 2018, Simon Community NI hosted a working breakfast as part of Homeless Awareness Week. The event ‘Pathways to Youth Homelessness Findings Review: A multi-agency conversation’ provided an opportunity for the youth homeless sector in Northern Ireland to discuss the top-line results from this research and explore how best to translate the findings into departmental recommendations and sector actions.
Over 50 participants representing the statutory and voluntary sector attended the event including NHSCT, BHSCT, Youth Justice Agency, NIHE, Springboard, Belfast Metropolitan College, MACS, Barnardo’s, First Housing, Apex Housing, BCM and CHNI.

Ecosystems of prevention: building local practice networks [EUSPR 2016]Mentor
Mentor UK undertook a review of the drug education provision in secondary schools across Brighton and Hove in Sept 2015-Feb 2016 to support evidence-based delivery at a local level. The process not only allowed Mentor to work closely with schools to understand the current capacity and expertise, but also made links and developed strategies to strengthen communication and collaboration with other relevant actors within the community. The case study was presented at this year's EUSPR conference in Berlin, to demonstrate effective strategies to support local agents to implement evidence based practice and develop strong prevention systems.
Mentor’s Quality Assurance services provide guidance and tools to support local capacity building through developing and strengthening sustainable prevention networks at a local level. The alcohol and drug education review in Brighton and Hove not only allowed Mentor to work closely with schools to understand the current capacity and expertise, but also made links and developed strategies to strengthen communication and collaboration with other relevant actors within the community.
Drug Aware is an intervention providing schools with resources and support by involving “whole school communities”, which includes young people, parents/carers, teachers and other school staff, as well as partners such as drug services and the police.

RESULTS: Overall life span (LS) was 2252.1±1742.5 days and cumulative 5-year survival (5YS) reached 73.2%, 10 years – 64.8%, 20 years – 42.5%. 513 LCP lived more than 5 years (LS=3124.6±1525.6 days), 148 LCP – more than 10 years (LS=5054.4±1504.1 days).199 LCP died because of LC (LS=562.7±374.5 days). 5YS of LCP after bi/lobectomies was significantly superior in comparison with LCP after pneumonectomies (78.1% vs.63.7%, P=0.00001 by log-rank test). AT significantly improved 5YS (66.3% vs. 34.8%) (P=0.00000 by log-rank test) only for LCP with N1-2. Cox modeling displayed that 5YS of LCP significantly depended on: phase transition (PT) early-invasive LC in terms of synergetics, PT N0—N12, cell ratio factors (ratio between cancer cells- CC and blood cells subpopulations), G1-3, histology, glucose, AT, blood cell circuit, prothrombin index, heparin tolerance, recalcification time (P=0.000-0.038). Neural networks, genetic algorithm selection and bootstrap simulation revealed relationships between 5YS and PT early-invasive LC (rank=1), PT N0—N12 (rank=2), thrombocytes/CC (3), erythrocytes/CC (4), eosinophils/CC (5), healthy cells/CC (6), lymphocytes/CC (7), segmented neutrophils/CC (8), stick neutrophils/CC (9), monocytes/CC (10); leucocytes/CC (11). Correct prediction of 5YS was 100% by neural networks computing (area under ROC curve=1.0; error=0.0).
CONCLUSIONS: 5YS of LCP after radical procedures significantly depended on: 1) PT early-invasive cancer; 2) PT N0--N12; 3) cell ratio factors; 4) blood cell circuit; 5) biochemical factors; 6) hemostasis system; 7) AT; 8) LC characteristics; 9) LC cell dynamics; 10) surgery type: lobectomy/pneumonectomy; 11) anthropometric data. Optimal diagnosis and treatment strategies for LC are: 1) screening and early detection of LC; 2) availability of experienced thoracic surgeons because of complexity of radical procedures; 3) aggressive en block surgery and adequate lymph node dissection for completeness; 4) precise prediction; 5) adjuvant chemoimmunoradiotherapy for LCP with unfavorable prognosis.

role and prepare them in supporting the children in their care
4) We need to ensure that support groups are available and that these support
groups empower the carers to support each other
5) We need local support services to be kinship care friendly, and to be trained
to have a better awareness of kinship care
6) We need schools and health services to have a better understanding of
kinship care and awareness of the how this can impact on a young person or
family.
7) We need to ensure that activities are provided for children in kinship
arrangements
