This document summarizes trends in African American representation on television for fall 2012. It finds that while the number of scripted series and roles featuring African Americans has increased slightly from fall 2011 to 2012 on broadcast networks, lead/co-lead roles have remained low. On cable, it notes the growing number of reality and sitcoms featuring African American casts and characters, but a continued lack of African American targeted scripted content from broadcasters. New networks like Aspire and Revolt aim to fill this void.
