Preterm labor is a multifactorial process in which the uterus transitions from a quiescent to contractile state through cervical ripening, membrane activation, and uterine contractions before 37 weeks of gestation. Potential causes include inflammation and infection, cervical insufficiency, multiple gestations, polyhydramnios, and activation of the fetal hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis, though the etiology is often poorly understood and can be spontaneous or iatrogenic. Management depends on gestational age, fetal condition, and whether the mother is in latent or active labor.

This slide is very helpful for physiotherapy students and also for other medical and healthcare students.
Here is a summary of Pneumothorax:
Pneumothorax, also known as a collapsed lung, is a condition that occurs when air leaks into the space between the lung and chest wall. This air buildup puts pressure on the lung, preventing it from expanding fully when you breathe. A pneumothorax can cause a complete or partial collapse of the lung.
End-tidal carbon dioxide (ETCO2) is the level of carbon dioxide that is released at the end of an exhaled breath. ETCO2 levels reflect the adequacy with which carbon dioxide (CO2) is carried in the blood back to the lungs and exhaled.
Non-invasive methods for ETCO2 measurement include capnometry and capnography. Capnometry provides a numerical value for ETCO2. In contrast, capnography delivers a more comprehensive measurement that is displayed in both graphical (waveform) and numerical form.
Sidestream devices can monitor both intubated and non-intubated patients, while mainstream devices are most often limited to intubated patients.

Emphysema is a disease condition of respiratory system.
Emphysema is an abnormal permanent enlargement of the air spaces distal to terminal bronchioles, accompanied by destruction of their walls and without obvious fibrosis.
Emphysema of lung is defined as hyper inflation of the lung ais spaces due to obstruction of non respiratory bronchioles as due to loss of elasticity of alveoli.
It is a type of chronic obstructive
pulmonary disease.
It is a progressive disease of lungs.
3. Introduction
There is worldwide and national concern about quality and
safety of health care. Poor quality of health services can be
found at all levels of the health care system.
A disorganized hospital is prone to medical errors resulting in
many deaths and injuries.
Currently the quality of health services in hospitals in Uganda
is unsatisfactory as shown by long waiting time, overcrowding
at service points and unhygienic work environments among
others.
Many hospitals ignore the non health expectations of the
people like dignity, basic human needs, prompt attention in
care and treatment, communication , confidentiality and
autonomy resulting in growing public dissatisfaction with the
quality of hospital services.
Implementation of a more responsive, client focused and
sustainable health care system is therefore a felt need in
Uganda. 3
6. Looking at reality….
• Hospitals are disorganized and:
– A test result is lost
– A long waiting for consultation
– A doctor cannot be contacted for emergencies
– A death due to a fall from the bed
– A death from sepsis in wards or theatres
– A failing/shortage in supply system
7. Q&S should be sought of by us even under
shortage of resources.
Quality and Safety

Health Service!
8. Who should manage the work?
All health personnel, who are
allocated his or her working
territory and responsibility,
should manage their work…!
9. Everybody likes to do
what he/she likes and
NOT what should be

BUT wait a minute…!
10. What else do we need???
In order to do what should be done,
Knowledge and skills are not
enough!!
