2. THE FACIAL MUSCLE ARE SUBCUTANEOUS
MUSCLES
FACIAL MUSCLES INSERTED INTO SKIN
SECONDARY KNOWN AS MUSCLE OF FACIAL
EXPRESSIONS
THESE HAVE SMALL MOTOR UNIT
EMBRYOLOGICALLY DEVELOP FROM
MESODERM OF SECOND BRANCHIAL ARCH
MORPHOLOGICALLY THEY REPRESENT
REMNANTS OF PANNICULUS CARNOSUS
6. MUSCLE NAME
•Corrugator Supercilii
•Orbicularis Occuli

superolaterally
oElevates the angle of mouth
oPull the angle of the mouth laterally
oCompress lips and cheek against teeth

7. . MOTOR NERVE SUPPLY
FACIAL NERVE IS A MOTOR NERVE
Terminal branches of facial nerve are :-
1. TEMPORAL
2. ZYGOMATIC
3. BUCCAL
4. MARGINAL MANDIBULAR
5. CERVICAL
8. 1. TEMPORAL :- Crosses zygomatic arches
give branches for - FRONATALIS
AURICULAR MUSCLES
ORBICULARIS OCULI
2. ZYGOMATIC :- Crosses zygomatic bone
give branches for –
orbicularis oculi { lower part of eyelid}
3. BUCCAL :- Muscles of cheek and upper lip
4. Marginal mandibular :- Supplies muscles of
lower lip
5. Cervical:- innervates platysma
12. VEINS OF FACE VENOUS DRAINAGE
They communicate the cavernous
sinus
Veins on each side w-shaped
arrangement
The facial vein is largest vein of te
face with no valves
Is formed by the union of the
supratrochelar and supra orbital
veins
It cross the anteroinferior angle of
the masseter ,pierces the deep fascia
,crosses the submandibular gland
,and joins the anterior devision of
retromandibular vein below the angle
of the mandible to form the common
facial vein
Lateral side drain into internal
jugular vein
Communication b/w supraorbital
and superior ophthalmic vein
Pterygoid plexus through deep
facial vein which passes backwards
over the buccinator.
14. The INFRA NUCLEAR LESION of the facial nerve at the
stylomastoid foramen is known as BELL’SPALSY
UPEER AND LOWER quarters of the face on the same side
get paralysed .
The face become asymmetricle and is drawn up to the
normal side.
The affected side motion less.wrinkles disappear from the
forehead
During mastication food accumulates b/w the teeth and
the cheek
Tears flow out from the eye .saliva flow down from the
angle of mouth
16. THE supra nuclear lesions of the facial
nerve usually a part of hemiplegia with injury
of corti conuclear fiber.
The lower quarter of the opposite side of
face is paralysed .
Only voluntary movements are affected and
emotional expression remain normal.
