This document provides a vocabulary for describing a person's appearance, body shape, size, and muscularity. It includes 37 words organized into three categories: 1) appearance (beautiful, handsome, plain, ugly), 2) body shape and size (fat, thin, chubby, obese, curvy, flabby, slim), and 3) muscularity (fit, strong, ripped, buff). Additional descriptive words are given like barrel-chested, beefy, brawny, built, and stocky. Seven common face shapes are also listed: diamond, heart, oblong, oval, round, square, and triangle.

In this topic you’re going to expand your vocabulary with (thirty seven) 37 words to tell about a
person’s.
Three areas:
1. Person’s appearance.
2. Body shape and size.
3. Body Muscular.
1. Words to describe a person’s appearance.
1. Beautiful – Mostly used for Women.
Others Words: – pretty, lovely, gorgeous, and stunning
“stunning” – extremely beautiful, like a woman who is so beautiful that
she attracts a lot of attention.
2. Handsome – Mostly used for Men.
The words attractive, good-looking, cute, and hot can be used for both men and women.
 Cute is a more playful word to say a person is attractive;
We often use “cute” for children and baby animals.
 Hot is a slang word that you should only use during informal conversations among
friends.
3. Plain – For ordinary-looking person – not especially
beautiful/handsome, but not especially ugly either.

“She’s not very attractive” or “He’s not so good-looking.”
2. Words to describe body shape and size.
We have already known the basic words fat and thin.
Part A : for Fatty body:
Other words for fat body:
Overweight, heavy, big, large,
For EXTREMELY fat body obese.
 The word chubby - describe fat children.
 The words husky or heavyset - describe fat men.
 The words plump or curvy - describe fat women.
(The word curvy has a more positive connotation, implying that the woman has a nice, full,
feminine body).
 For a specific part of the body is fat, we can say it is flabby.
For example, “I hate my flabby stomach.” (Typically used for arms, stomach, thighs, and butt).
Part B : for Thin body:
Slim, slender, skinny, lean, wiry, petite, lanky,
Positive words:
In general, thin, slim, and slender.
Negative (For criticism) word:
skinny is often used negative image.
 The words lean and wiry mean that the person is thin AND muscular.
 The word petite is only used for women, and means that the woman is short AND thin.

3.  Finally, the word lanky means tall and thin.

A person has a large heavy body and strong muscles
Big
A big person is tall and heavy, and often fat.
Brawny
Physically strong, with big muscles.
Buff
Informal physically attractive and with well-developed muscles.
Built
Used for describing the size and shape of someone’s body.
Bullnecked
With a short thick neck.
Burly
A burly man is fat and strong.
Coltish
Tall and thin, and tending to move fast.
Compact
A compact person is physically small but looks strong.
Full
If part of someone’s body is full, it is large, wide, or has a round shape, especially in a way that
is attractive.
Gangling
Very tall and thin, with long arms and legs, and not graceful.

Tall and thin, and moving in a way that does not seem graceful or comfortable.
Heavily built
A heavily built person is big and strong but not fat.
Heavy-set
Big and strong.

Pigeon-chested

Round-shouldered
With shoulders that are bent forward
Slight
Thin, not very tall, and not looking very strong
Slightly-built
Someone who is slightly-built is thin, not very tall, and does not look very strong
Solid
Someone who looks solid is big and has a strong firm body
Statuesque
Tall and beautiful like a statue
Stocky
A stocky person looks strong but is not tall

Taut
A taut body is firm with strong muscles and little fat.
Thickset
Someone who is thickset has a wide strong body.
