Although patch clamp techniques are utilized in a broad range of fields, there are economic and methodological hurdles to overcome to employ them. Here we developed a small, simple, and easy-to-use patch clamp system. A four-chamber cell stage with fluid exchange channels was fabricated for high-throughput recording.

Amplifiers are widely used in signal receiving circuits, such as antennas, medical imaging, wireless devices and many other applications. However, one of the most challenging problems when building an amplifier circuit is the noise, since it affects the quality of the intended received signal in most wireless applications. Therefore, a preamplifier is usually placed close to the main sensor to reduce the effects of interferences and to amplify the received signal without degrading the signal-to-noise ratio. Although different designs have been optimized and tested in the literature, all of them are using larger than 100 nm technologies which have led to a modest performance in terms of equivalent noise charge (ENC), gain, power consumption, and response time. In contrast, we consider in this paper a new amplifier design technology trend and move towards sub 100 nm to enhance its performance. In this work, we use a pre-well-known design of a preamplifier circuit and rebuild it using 45 nm CMOS technology, which is made for the first time in such circuits. Performance evaluation shows that our proposed scaling technology, compared with other scaling technology, extremely reduces ENC of the circuit by more than 95%. The noise spectral density and time resolution are also reduced by 25% and 95% respectively. In addition, power consumption is decreased due to the reduced channel length by 90%. As a result, all of those enhancements make our proposed circuit more suitable for medical and wireless devices.

1. Radio-frequency impedance (RFI) is an effective method for measuring viable biomass in microbial fermentations. It measures the capacitance of intact cell membranes and is not affected by non-viable cells or debris like light-based optical density sensors.
2. Aber Instruments has developed sensitive RFI probes and instruments specifically for microbial fermentations. Their annular ring probe design improves sensitivity for low biomass applications. Testing of their Model 200 instrument showed excellent correlation of RFI measurements to optical density and cell dry weight in E. coli fermentations.

In the intensified process, cells were adapted to a new media and a perfused N-1 process was established using a 3L bioreactor. This intensified process increased the inoculation density in a subsequent 3L fed-batch production bioreactor to 5 million cells/mL compared to 0.5 million cells/mL in the standard process. The intensified upstream process achieved a similar peak viable cell density and viability as the standard process but in fewer days of production.

Although different designs have been optimized and tested in the literature, all of them are using larger than 100 nm technologies which have led to a modest performance in terms of equivalent noise charge (ENC), gain, power consumption, and response time. In contrast, we consider in this paper a new amplifier design technology trend and move towards sub 100 nm to enhance its performance. In this work, we use a pre-well-known design of a preamplifier circuit and rebuild it using 45 nm CMOS technology, which is made for the first time in such circuits. Performance evaluation shows that our proposed scaling technology, compared with other scaling technology, extremely reduces ENC of the circuit by more than 95%. The noise spectral density and time resolution are also reduced by 25% and 95% respectively. In addition, power consumption is decreased due to the reduced channel length by 90%. As a result, all of those enhancements make our proposed circuit more suitable for medical and wireless devices.

1. Radio-frequency impedance (RFI) is an effective method for measuring viable biomass in microbial fermentations. It measures the capacitance of intact cell membranes and is not affected by non-viable cells or debris like light-based optical density sensors.
2. Aber Instruments has developed sensitive RFI probes and instruments specifically for microbial fermentations. Their annular ring probe design improves sensitivity for low biomass applications. Testing of their Model 200 instrument showed excellent correlation of RFI measurements to optical density and cell dry weight in E. coli fermentations.

This document summarizes the work of Hans Jansen and Christiaan Henkel with long read nanopore sequencing. They have sequenced several genomes including carp, eel, king cobra, and Agrobacterium using MinION. Their longest reads were 120 kbp and 93.5 kbp. They also established the MinION Access Program to improve genomes by resolving repeats. As part of this, they formed the MinION Analysis and Reference Consortium to standardize protocols and understand variability between labs. Their work with the E. coli genome demonstrated sources of variation in read counts, lengths, and alignments between labs.

The document describes a case study where an intensified upstream process was developed using a perfused N-1 seed train with the CelliconTM filter and controller. In the intensified process, cells were adapted to a new media and a perfused N-1 process was established using a 3L bioreactor. This intensified process increased the inoculation density in a subsequent 3L fed-batch production bioreactor to 5 million cells/mL compared to 0.5 million cells/mL in the standard process. The intensified upstream process achieved a similar peak viable cell density and viability as the standard process but in fewer days of production.

From Natural Language to Structured Solr Queries using LLMs
This talk draws on experimentation to enable AI applications with Solr. One important use case is to use AI for better accessibility and discoverability of the data: while User eXperience techniques, lexical search improvements, and data harmonization can take organizations to a good level of accessibility, a structural (or “cognitive” gap) remains between the data user needs and the data producer constraints.
That is where AI – and most importantly, Natural Language Processing and Large Language Model techniques – could make a difference. This natural language, conversational engine could facilitate access and usage of the data leveraging the semantics of any data source.
The objective of the presentation is to propose a technical approach and a way forward to achieve this goal.
The key concept is to enable users to express their search queries in natural language, which the LLM then enriches, interprets, and translates into structured queries based on the Solr index’s metadata.
This approach leverages the LLM’s ability to understand the nuances of natural language and the structure of documents within Apache Solr.
The LLM acts as an intermediary agent, offering a transparent experience to users automatically and potentially uncovering relevant documents that conventional search methods might overlook. The presentation will include the results of this experimental work, lessons learned, best practices, and the scope of future work that should improve the approach and make it production-ready.

Open source standards and specifications within the energy sector can also alleviate challenges associated with data fragmentation, transparency, and accessibility. At the same time, it is crucial to consider privacy and security concerns throughout the development of open source platforms.
This webinar will delve into the motivations behind establishing LF Energy’s Carbon Data Specification Consortium. It will provide an overview of the draft specifications and the ongoing progress made by the respective working groups.
Three primary specifications will be discussed:
-Discovery and client registration, emphasizing transparent processes and secure and private access
-Customer data, centering around customer tariffs, bills, energy usage, and full consumption disclosure

zkStudyClub - LatticeFold: A Lattice-based Folding Scheme and its Application...
Folding is a recent technique for building efficient recursive SNARKs. Several elegant folding protocols have been proposed, such as Nova, Supernova, Hypernova, Protostar, and others. However, all of them rely on an additively homomorphic commitment scheme based on discrete log, and are therefore not post-quantum secure. In this work we present LatticeFold, the first lattice-based folding protocol based on the Module SIS problem. This folding protocol naturally leads to an efficient recursive lattice-based SNARK and an efficient PCD scheme. LatticeFold supports folding low-degree relations, such as R1CS, as well as high-degree relations, such as CCS. The key challenge is to construct a secure folding protocol that works with the Ajtai commitment scheme. The difficulty, is ensuring that extracted witnesses are low norm through many rounds of folding. We present a novel technique using the sumcheck protocol to ensure that extracted witnesses are always low norm no matter how many rounds of folding are used. Our evaluation of the final proof system suggests that it is as performant as Hypernova, while providing post-quantum security.
