The organization Helping Our People has been setup in 2011 by a team of education professionals working at the Virtual Centre for Innovative Technologies (VCILT) at the University of Mauritius. In 2009, the VCILT embarked on the SIDECAP project, funded by the EU-ACP in a consortium regrouping the Open University of the UK, the University of the West Indies, the University of the South Pacific and the University of the Highlands and Islands. The work of the VCILT in the context of the SIDECAP project was essentially focused on the repurposing of Open Educational Resources to fit in the local Mauritian Context. At the same time, the VCILT received an internal grant to work on the development of interactive learning materials using the integration of text-to-speech technology in instructionally designed PowerPoint presentations. In this paper we report how the research activities of the two projects led to a series of development and applications in the real-world context for the continuous professional development of educators, the establishment of a social entity, an NGO called Helping Our People, a partnership with Microsoft Indian Ocean and French Pacific under the Partners in Learning Program and the Youth Empowerment Program to alleviate the suffering of those living in vulnerable conditions in the country.

This presentation was given at the 5th World Forum for Lifelong Learning in Madrid 27 September 2017, in a panel/roundtable on lifelong learning and distance education, chaired by Alejandro Tiana Ferrer, rector for UNED and host for the Forum.
After having listened to my co-presenters and in the plenary before our roundtable plus material from my own presentation, I suggested the following input to the conclusions from the Forum:
1. We, believers in Lifelong Learning should mobilise for inclusive integrated lifelong learning in a digitalised world
2. We should suggest the direction to be, within the framework of Education 2030 SDG 4, inclusion and education as a public good, social justice as a point of departure.
3. Collaboration among all stakeholder, and this is also the lifeblood for having success for Education 2030.

Francesco Pisanu is a research fellow in educational research at IPRASE (Provincial Institute of Educational Research and Experimentation ), in the Province of Trento, Italy. He studies, among other topics, psychosocial aspect related to the use of technology in education and training, special educational needs and inclusion, innovation in teaching practices and organizational issues in educational context. He has always been interested in research methodology, mostly in computer mediated environments. He has studied (work and organizational) Psychology and he got a Ph.D. in Information Systems and Organization at the University of Trento. He taught Social Psychology of groups and he is currently teaching Educational and Guidance Psychology at the Faculty of Cognitive Sciences, University of Trento.
Abstract of presentation: Educational innovation and technology: a need for integration
The presence of technology in learning environments (school, university, vocational education and training, professional development, etc.) does not necessarily entail a direct change in pedagogical vision or teaching practices. The mere placing of computers, video projectors and IWBs in classrooms does not mark the ultimate attainment of a teaching innovation. For this reason, I believe it is important to discuss the concept of technology-based pedagogical innovation, connect this concept to a learning theory, clarify the role of technology as far as teachers and learning results are concerned and, thus, reflect on the different levels of analyses in the study of the relationship between technologies and development of competences, digital competences included.

This article introduces a framework for automatically extracting knowledge from student blogs and
injecting it into a shared resource, namely a Wiki. This is motivated by the need to preserve knowledge
generated by students beyond their time of study. The framework is described in the context of the Bachelor
of Creative Technologies degree at the Auckland University of Technology in New Zealand where it is
being deployed alongside an existing blogging and ePortfolio process. The framework uses an extensible,
layered architecture that allows for incremental development of components in the system to enhance the
functionality over time. The current implementation is in beta-testing and uses simple heuristics in the core
components. This article presents a road map for extending the functionality to improve the quality of
knowledge extraction by introducing techniques from the artificial intelligence field.

on working life as a future learning environment.
The work done was founded on several complementary
forms of activity. These included literature
reviews, expert panels, two-tier Delphi inquiries
and active work in various social media channels.
The study dealt with the multidimensional relationship
between working life and learning, which
was approached through exposing the backgrounds
for modern phenomena with the help of
field-specific literature and through the work of
expert panels. The project also estimated future
trends and enriched views concerning them using
participatory working methods such as Delphi inquiries
and expert panels.

Conventional concrete is the most widely used construction material throughout the world because of its versality, mouldability, durability, and resistance to fire and energy efficiency. However, its major disadvantages like poor tensile strength, limited ductility and little resistance to cracking resists its use as a structural material. Hence, in order to overcome these difficulties several new materials have been developed in the recent past.Admixtures are ingredients other than water, aggregates, hydraulic cement and fibers that are added to the concrete batch immediately before or during mixing. Mineral admixtures are usually added to concrete in larger amounts to enhance the workability of fresh concrete, to improve resistance of concrete to thermal cracking, alkali-aggregate expansion and sulphate attack and to enable a reduction in cement content. The objective of this study is to evaluate the effectiveness of various mineral admixtures in producing SCC. In this study the scope of GGBS ( Ground granular blast furnace slag ) as a mineral admixture to some percentage replace cement in SCC were studied. The study showed that a maximum of 50% GGBS were able to be used as a mineral admixture without affecting the self-compactability

The interactions of SAA and SAA protofibrils with protecting role of alphaB-Crystallin with hepta 1-6 cells of the mouse are dealt with in detail to study the binding of SAA protofibrils in various conditions. Specifically, interaction of serum amyloid A fibrils with a cell surface binding site/receptor might alter the local environment to cause cellular dysfunction and to be more favorable for amyloid formation and prevention with alphaB-Crystallin. This is important in relation to the activity of membrane proteins, because losing the activity of such systems will ultimately lead to malfunction or death of the cell. The interactions of Serum Amyloid A (SAA) and Serum Amyloid A protofibrils with hepta 1-6 cells of the mouse are dealt with in detail to study the binding of SAA protofibrils in various onditions. The induced fluorescence, induced circular dichroism, FACScan and MTT assay results have shown the SAA and SAA prototfibrils binding and cell toxicity with the hepta 1-6 cells with different concentrations of alphaB-Crystallin 0.15-15 nM. Specifically, cells were incubated with 1.25-6.25 M SAA-FITC and SAA protofibrils-FITC assayed. The 50% viable hepta 1-6 cells at 4–6 M with an LD50 of 3.5 M. The interaction of serum amyloid A fibrils with a cell surface binding site/receptor might alter the local environment to cause cellular dysfunction and to be more favorable for amyloid formation. In the present study, concluding that the SAA fibrils and SAA protein binding and cell cytotoxicity was reduced in the presence of alphaB-Crystallin.

Commercial corridor in areas surround Jakarta has been rapidly growth. Some of this commercial corridor grows without any proper planning. Commercial corridor is created from available infrastructure that was used to connect some developed area. The rapid growth of commercial corridor shows irregularity and heterogeneity. The difference shape and dimension of parcel get similar treatment of building code. The characteristic of this commercial corridor created from the relationship of parcel shape and dimensions with building code as the controller. Relationship of parcel shape and dimensions with regulation can be analyzed easier using parametric simulation tools. The result of parametric simulation tools shows the characteristic of corridor as correlation between all variable. This paper uses one representative segment of corridor commercial in Serpong Tangerang.

Impact on Aquatic Environment for Water Pollution in the Vahirab Rivertheijes
Water is a valued natural resource for the existence of all living organisms. Vahirab river is the prominent & important rivers for vital source of water from Jessore to Khulna. The prime reason of deterioration and pollution of the river water quality by effluents discharged from industries, municipal sewage, household wastes, clinical wastes and oils. The purpose of this study is to investigate the impact of this wastewater on the river and thus to provide an updated report on the state of water quality of river Vahirab. The water sample were collected from different areas in the river Vahirab and analyzed for physico-chemical parameters and fresh water elements in the month of July, 2013 to November, 2013. The values of temperature, turbidity, pH, chloride, hardness, DO, BOD, COD, Fe, As, Pb, Cd and Cr in the river water were measured. During study period the temperature, turbidity, pH, hardness, chloride, DO, BOD and COD were found to be 280C to 31.50C, 37 to 947 NTU, 7.2 to 8.01, 92 to 140 ppm, 9 to 34 ppm, 122 to 5.51 mg/L, 0.22 to 5.79 mg/L and 3.80 to 10.80 mg/L respectively. The concentration of Fe, Pb, As, Cd and Cr were found to be 0.10 to 2.60 ppm, 0.004 to 0.025 ppm, 0.001 to 0.004 ppm, 0.00015 to 0.0094 ppm and 0.001 to 0.006 ppm respectively. From the results of investigation, it was observed that the values of pH, Cl- , hardness, As, Pb, Cd and Cr were within standard limit but the values of temperature, turbidity, DO, BOD, COD and Fe were not within acceptable limit as recommended by WHO and BDS guidelines. The results obtained from this investigation will help the people of the research area to be conscious for using the water in the Vahirab river.

Effects of Variable Viscosity and Thermal Conductivity on MHD free Convection...theijes
A steady two-dimensional MHD free convection and mass transfer flow past an inclined vertical surface in the presence of heat generation and a porous medium have been studied numerically when the fluid viscosity and thermal conductivity are assumed to be vary as inverse linear function of temperature. The governing partial differential equations are reduced to a system of ordinary differential equations by introducing similarity transformations. The non-linear similarity equations are solved numerically by applying the Runge-Kutta method of fourth order with shooting technique. The numerical results are presented graphically to illustrate influence of different values of the parameters on the velocity, temperature and concentration profiles. Skin friction, Nusselt number and Sherwood number are also completed and presented in tabular form.
Recent Developments in Organic Polymers Based- Photovoltaic Cellstheijes
In this review article, the uses of organic polymers to make photovoltaic cells have been discussed. The focus is mainly on discussing organic polymer based photovoltaic (OPVs) solar cells, the development of new device technologies and donor polymers that are being researched on. The recent development in this field has led to improved OPV performances with power conversion efficiencies as phenomenal as 9%. However for commercial application of this kind of OPVs, an improved device structure and cost effective processing methods are required. This article reports the polymer design criteria, energy level matching, nano-morphing of polymer/acceptor blend films and local dipole moments of the polymer chains that have been developed in the research that took place over the past 4 years. We emphasize the importance of developing new methods for designing polymers with improved physical properties and development of new technologies to fully understand the fundamentals of OPV mechanisms, which will help improve the power conversion efficiency of the OPV.

This chapter discusses the question of what needs to be addressed in “the major infrastructural, cultural and organisational issues if integrated formal and informal eLearning environments are going to affect any change in the institutional regime”.
It argues that two conceptual models can help address these issues. Firstly a social media participation model, Aggregate then Curate, that was developed on a JISC-funded project, MOSI-ALONG, which itself was designed using an integrated model of formal and informal learning called the Emergent Learning Model. Secondly a “development framework” for institutional flexibility called an 'organisational Architecture of Participation', which was co-created with 15 UK Further Education colleges to better enable e-learning within educational institutions.
Recommendations are made concerning how to address the various infrastructural, cultural and organisational issues that emerged during MOSI-ALONG, as we worked with local partners to better enable adult eLearning. These also include broader proposals concerning the need for individual adult learning institutions to have ongoing support from collaborative hubs if they are to evolve a community-responsive institutional life-cycle appropriate for adult learning.

Fascination is a project for design students, developed jointly by the Technical University of Catalonia
(UPC) and the University of Technology Thonburi (KMUTT), which works with two groups of students,
one group of participants in Spain and another group in Thailand where, hands-on activities, a range
of technologies are used to prepare students for the lessons, through learning activities and content.
This research paper presents the test of both a general model and a tool for measuring the
participants’ experiences in a course that uses a blended learning methodology, with the aim of
collecting empirical evidence to justify the effort of applying this methodology, based on the
participants’ satisfaction. The procedure used in the conceptualization of the survey, the generation of
topics, the collection of data, and the validation of the scale of various items are described here. The
information, provided by the 26 people surveyed about the course and the virtual environment that
was used, was analyzed to measure their perceptions and explore possible relations. Finally the
conclusions of the research and the future work are presented.
OPEN EDUCATIONAL RESOURCES FOR ONLINE LANGUAGE TEACHER TRAINING: CONCEPTUAL F...IJITE
This paper discusses a conceptual framework for the design of Open Educational Resources (OERs) for
online language teacher training including an example of practical implementation. The authors identify in
the principles of micro- and macro- learning, cognitive load theory and Threshold Concepts (TCs), the key
elements that lead to the creation of effective OERs designed for the Lilac Project which aims to support
language teachers in managing online learning environments. Data from questionnaires and focus groups
were utilised to establish a set of TCs connected to online language teaching. These were then crossreferenced with existing TCs, and utilised to create micro learning content that does not negatively impact
the cognitive load, but, at the same time, is positioned within a larger macro structure that allows for the
development of deeper knowledge and competences. The structure of Lilac OERs will be presented as a
practical example of how the potential of technologies to support learning can be embedded in online
contexts.

Removing Uninteresting Bytes in Software FuzzingAftab Hussain
Imagine a world where software fuzzing, the process of mutating bytes in test seeds to uncover hidden and erroneous program behaviors, becomes faster and more effective. A lot depends on the initial seeds, which can significantly dictate the trajectory of a fuzzing campaign, particularly in terms of how long it takes to uncover interesting behaviour in your code. We introduce DIAR, a technique designed to speedup fuzzing campaigns by pinpointing and eliminating those uninteresting bytes in the seeds. Picture this: instead of wasting valuable resources on meaningless mutations in large, bloated seeds, DIAR removes the unnecessary bytes, streamlining the entire process.
In this work, we equipped AFL, a popular fuzzer, with DIAR and examined two critical Linux libraries -- Libxml's xmllint, a tool for parsing xml documents, and Binutil's readelf, an essential debugging and security analysis command-line tool used to display detailed information about ELF (Executable and Linkable Format). Our preliminary results show that AFL+DIAR does not only discover new paths more quickly but also achieves higher coverage overall. This work thus showcases how starting with lean and optimized seeds can lead to faster, more comprehensive fuzzing campaigns -- and DIAR helps you find such seeds.

This paper presents Reef, a system for generating publicly verifiable succinct non-interactive zero-knowledge proofs that a committed document matches or does not match a regular expression. We describe applications such as proving the strength of passwords, the provenance of email despite redactions, the validity of oblivious DNS queries, and the existence of mutations in DNA. Reef supports the Perl Compatible Regular Expression syntax, including wildcards, alternation, ranges, capture groups, Kleene star, negations, and lookarounds. Reef introduces a new type of automata, Skipping Alternating Finite Automata (SAFA), that skips irrelevant parts of a document when producing proofs without undermining soundness, and instantiates SAFA with a lookup argument. Our experimental evaluation confirms that Reef can generate proofs for documents with 32M characters; the proofs are small and cheap to verify (under a second).

Multimedia and Special Education can help create inclusive environments on the web. So an innovative use of
Information and Communication Technology through an inclusive pedagogical perspective can be a challenge
when applied to on-line university courses. The concept of an inclusive approach of multimedia here focuses
not just on the way in which the needs of all students, including those with disabilities in accessing, attending
and achieving potentials on the programme are met but also on the way the University responds to diversity
under the following elements: quality of educational path, method and organisation of educational
environment, tutors' professional skills, integrated strategies and methodologies.
This study presents the procedures and results of sperimental online training system activities carried
out by the students in the a.y. 2013/14 in two academic courses at the Department of Movement, Health and
Human Sciences at “Foro Italico” University of Rome (Italy).

I. INTRODUCTION AND STATE OF THE ART
On-line university courses adopting e-learning techniques are increasingly common nowadays. In Italy
students with disabilities can attend universities as any other students, as stated in Law 17 from 1999.
This paper examines the roles of both multimedia and special education applied to distance university courses.
We present and discuss a study that focuses jointly on two important concepts for the first time: on-line learning
environments and inclusion.
We discuss the elements of change, both pedagogical and technological, that are introduced in the training in
order to define an environment for virtual inclusive education [1].
The survey is part of some development phases of an experimental research project most far-reaching:
FIRB (Investment Funds for Basic Research) Network@ccessible, teaching-learning together and for everyone
in a life project. The Firb project is carried out by six Italian universities and research institutions, from 2009 to
2014, and it is coordinated by Lucia de Anna from the University of Rome “Foro Italico” [2]. The project was
approved by the Italian Ministry of Education, University and Research. Such research aims at create the
conditions to develop inclusive contexts on the Internet, by connecting learning and pedagogical aspects in the
learning process together with the Internet technologies, with an eye to the structural and cultural accessibility,
based on the new concept of accessibility established by the Convention on Rights of People with Disabilities of
United Nations in 2006 [3], validated in Italy in 2009 and reiterated in the more recent programs of the
European Union [4] for the elimination of barriers that impede: accessibility; participation; equality;
employment; education and training; social protection; health.
The main purpose of our project is the development of a training system that could facilitate soft skills
improvement, through the construction of a cooperative culture [5] of inclusion shared by everybody.
Field survey of real educational phenomena and action research are the epistemic processes [6].

The purpose of our project is to develop a new integrated and inclusive training model (with a strong
relevance of on-line activities) in order to:
improve all students’ skills in this field;
evaluate the quality and the effectiveness of both the educational and the training experience of the training
carried out;

evaluate the e-tutor role inside the construction and facilitation of inclusive processes.
A particular focus is on the development of principles expressed in the Bologna Process1
and on the cross
characteristics identified in the descriptors of Dublin2
.
In particular we focus on theoretical assumptions from the Special Education to underline the
importance of an educational path linked to the creation of competences about inclusion among students that
have to be shared by everyone in order to create a society that can create actively participant citizens (Corradini,
2009).
Two concepts guided the whole experience: we improved a specific kind of e-learning, helping the
development of a learning by doing strategy. The project, in fact, was conceived to employ both face-to-face
and on-line meetings, defining a blended curricula for those students interested in inclusive skills training. This
experience gave them the chance to test a new way of being trained, considered the high value assigned to
different cognitive styles of each one.
Moreover this experience can be considered very different from the traditional setting one, where there
is a teacher, an expert, who deals with knowledge, who is the well skilled one, who says what is right and what
is wrong, defining a specific hierarchical way of teaching. Network@ccessible allowed people, with or without
disabilities, to participate and build their own learning process, joining the decisional process and the outcomes
evaluation, with the help of a tutor.
II. METHODOLOGY
We used an e-learning platform and a teaching method with the purpose of making possible to conduct
inclusion with special education training at distance.
The teaching method exploits a free Learning Management System (Moodle) that allows a community
of students, teachers and e-tutor to communicate, interact and learn together on-line.
The rules for implementing it are based on the accessible web principles. Such accessibility is not only from a
technological point of view, but also based on the principles of pedagogy that contribute in the development of
the human being [7].
The method proposed involved both face-to-face training, on-line and self-training elements with a
generative learning approach [8].
Models and tools have been designed to comply with the needs of all student including those with
disabilities and of professionals operating in the special education field, who wanted to improve their
performance, as well as the organizations they belong to.
We analyze the possibility of introducing in university teaching training courses supported by information
technologies, methods and integrated strategies which allow each student to achieve their learning goals [9].
The model seemed congenial for the purpose because it is bottom down, which is developed in close
cooperation with the interests of education and examined with the object of inquiry not imposed from above or
externally, but responding to a need expressed in the evolutionary process' hypothesis of this research.
III. PLANNING AND DEVELOPMENT
In order to test and spread the new cooperative training model [10] and the new inclusive and
interactive pedagogical approach, the university “Foro Italico” of Rome has organized three pilot experiences in
three different undergraduate courses (with 694 students and 1,6% students with disabilities).
The courses used informal learning processes [11] such as personal references on personal, professional and
cultural experiences in order to recognize credits. The participants share ideas and thoughts on different topics,
learning environments, expectations, towns where they live, and collective imagination. Such topics help apply
the topic of inclusion.
The discussed topics allowed students to share ideas and thoughts in a proactive way. The space,
accessible by all users, provided more chances to enhance the shared experiences and ideas with various
elements.
The courses are based on the principles of the learning philosophy, according to which the individual
that is learning is not just a passive and receptive person, but he/she is instead at the core of the process, actively
building the knowledge framework in a personal and specific way, starting from the various incentives and
forms of representation the student deals with.

In the teaching/learning process we have proposed innovative educational tools in order to:
Create an inclusive spirit within the virtual classrooms, i.e. a sense of affinity within the group;
Create an equal participation;
Create an educational process based on assertive and pro-social skills;
Create strategies of cooperation and peer-tutoring;
Create a perspective orientation within the various activities to help participants reach their goals based on
self-efficacy, self-esteem and positive attributive styles.
3.1 Courses organization
The training has been organized in a sequence of activities:
Design of the on-line learning environment for group interactions;
First face-to-face meeting, introducing the goals, contents, methodologies and tools of the project and
finalizing the learning agreement with the participants;
Training of students on a real case study (the object is negotiated between all participants);
Remote drafting of an Educational Project on the study carried out by each cooperative group;
Second follow-up face-to-face meeting for a final evaluation test.
One session a week has been scheduled: each one consisted of an on-line workshop meeting and a follow-up
meeting.
Participants, divided in sub-groups, discussed on the topic covered and the linked inclusion process,
supervised by their tutor. The system gave the tutor the chance to offer their expertise to improve the
performance of students.
As part of the activities scheduled in the interactive teaching plan, the participant takes part in
synchronous sessions (together with other participants and the tutor) or asynchronous sessions designed to case
study with specific contents and goals.
Online work sessions have proposed didactic strategies on how to learn through acting, in which
students were the main actors of the learning process in regards to self-cognition, responsibility and reflection,
with an active role in the creation of their own knowledge and acquisition of competences. In fact, the main goal
of the inclusion is to get students to actively participate within the class [12], and everyone has to have the same
formative resources.
All activities are supervised by a tutor [13], who provides feedback on strategies and evaluate outcomes
(how each group achieved its own specific goals, how it achieved the general goals of the process).
Tutor and participants exchange ideas and suggestions in a forum (via internet).
The final meeting aimed at measure the outcomes of the experimentation, to learn about participants experience
and to collect ideas for the improvement of the prototypes.
On-going feedback on all students was gathered throughout the course, augmented with an inquiry tool at the
and of the course.
This test can be considered as a first step (tryout) of study that opens the ways for further research paths
of the covered topics.
Anyway, all participants found the experience interesting and fascinating. Students with disabilities perceived
and lived their learning path as a fully inclusive experience.
IV. OUTCOMES
One of the main assumptions that come from this experience is that an inclusive on-line learning environment
could be an educational scenario designed as:
an integrating background (in order to co-construct a shared inclusive culture)
a context intentionally designed to work together (to advance active participation of all students)
an informal action space (to improve soft skill).
On the other hand in this action space occur interactions and exchanges between students, objects of knowledge,
tutors and teachers, on the basis of common interests and goals, and students have the opportunity to make
important experiences on the cognitive, affective, emotional, interpersonal and social level.
From the tutor point of view, two main factors have been highlighted:
he/she must be a pedagogical figure expert of media education and of inclusive process;
he/she must be able to develop self-learning skill in each student.
The data that come out from the trial (questionnaires analysis and interactions observation) highlighted that
almost all students managed to increase their knowledge and learn new soft and communication skills in a more
original way by the interaction model and by the tutors and other students’ scaffolding.

V. CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE FIELD
The immediate effect is to create accessible and usable training paths for all types of students including
those with disabilities.
The larger and more important effect, which is still in progress, is to make this kind of teaching
available to a higher amount of academic students than is currently possible.
Given the political and social impact of equal opportunities for people with disabilities this is an
extremely important goal. It is important to consider diversity and disability as full of potential resources for
everyone’s personal improvement.
To reach this goal, it is vital to train e-tutors involved in special education to face heterogeneous groups
of students, group’s dynamics, problem solving, quality communication and to develop soft skills.
VI. FUTURE TRENDS AND CONCLUSIONS
Our goal is to test the use of informal and interactive training methodology as a way of teaching
personal skills and spread the inclusive culture, which are hard to teach with traditional techniques of e-learning.
To build attractive, easily usable tools we have also paid great attention to the e-tutor support and pedagogical
design time to facilitate the on-line environment for the learning purpose.
This experience represents the first attempts to apply on-line inclusive strategies and flexible
methodologies to teaching and learning processes in higher education.
The experimental model shows a high level of applicability to other kind of university training courses.
On the other hand, we believe it could be a resource to employ within the field of effectiveness university
courses management. The idea is to train all students to work with heterogeneous groups in relation to their
own several unease areas: university drop-out, peer relationships, teacher-student relationships and learning
difficulties.
