This document reports on a study that examined consumer awareness of rights in Kamrup Metro District of Assam, India. The study had two objectives: 1) To study consumer awareness of the rights enshrined in the Consumer Protection Act; and 2) To examine the adequacy of protections for fulfilling consumer expectations. A sample of 100 consumers was surveyed using a questionnaire. Results found that awareness varied by demographics like age, education and gender. Regression analysis indicated that age was a significant predictor of awareness levels, with older consumers having greater knowledge of rights. While current protections have increased awareness, the study found there is still room for improvement in fulfilling consumer expectations.
