Extrapyramidal symptoms (EPS) are drug-induced movement disorders caused by drugs that block dopamine receptors, particularly typical antipsychotics. EPS include acute dystonic reactions, akathisia, pseudoparkinsonism, and tardive dyskinesia. Treatment involves reducing the dose of the causative drug or switching to an atypical antipsychotic, along with anticholinergic medications. Neuroleptic malignant syndrome (NMS) is a rare but life-threatening reaction to antipsychotics characterized by fever, muscle rigidity, and changes in mental status. It requires immediate medical treatment and discontinuation of the causative drug.
