A key aspect for achieving digital transformation is the data. Government organizations are well aware of the challenges that amount from increasing volume and velocity of data generation from multiple sources, such as enterprise applications, social media, integrated systems and sensory data. This webinar will discover how to utilize big data in the government sector and how to overcome data challenges to accelerate digital transformation.
Key points:
- Digital transformation in the government sector.
- The importance of data in digital transformation.
- The challenges of big data.
- The concept of data virtualization.
Klarity is a robust and comprehensive dashboard-styled platform providing metrics and analytics extracted from social media "big data" for marketers and entreprises. The proprietary engine developed by Social Media Broadcasts crawls influencer networks such as Facebook, Google+, Instagram, Pinterest, Twitter, Youtube, Sina Weibo and Tencent Weibo, collecting granular data and translating the information into meaningful insights allowing users to monitor social activity, measure performance and gather social intelligence.
This document discusses how digital analytics can help nonprofits differentiate themselves and improve outcomes. It notes that while analytics can drive significant efficiency gains, only a small portion of nonprofits have adopted analytics tools. Interviews with nonprofit leaders describe how analytics helped streamline operations, increase impact metrics, and scale programs more effectively. The document advocates that nonprofits at any stage can benefit from analytics and provides tips on getting started and maintaining momentum to realize benefits.
This document summarizes a discussion on enabling and sustaining large-scale change in health and care. It discusses the importance of informal networks in driving transformational change and connecting networks of people who want to contribute. It emphasizes building relationships, engaging people, and focusing on their energy, agency and motivation. The discussion promotes using social connections, discussion, and "superconnectors" to spread new knowledge and practices at scale. Tips include staying connected to values, building relationships, controlling the narrative, and finding your network to avoid working alone.
During the COVID-19 Global Pandemic, there were multiple lessons provided to the world. In this talk, I set the stage for the discussion, highlight the issues we faced (and still face), I speak to an effort that contributed to help address one of those issues, then speak to future challenges and our responsibilities going forward.
Big data is generating hype in healthcare, but true value will come as technical expertise and security improve. While most healthcare organizations currently have limited big data use beyond basic analytics, needs will grow as data sources expand through devices and the "internet of things". Predictive analytics using socioeconomic and other data could help predict patient outcomes and appointments. Prescriptive analytics may eventually provide personalized treatment paths for patients. Drug discovery may also be enhanced through big data. However, barriers like a lack of skills and integrated security currently limit big data to research applications.
Spreading and sustaining improvement: myths models and magicRosanna Hunt
This document discusses various topics related to spreading and scaling innovations in healthcare, including myths about the spread process, models for spread, and strategies for building energy for change. It notes that it can take over a century for practices like handwashing to become mainstream. It outlines five common myths about spread, such as the idea that spread is just about transferring information. Models for the spread process from organizations like Kaiser Permanente and the NHS are presented. Finally, it discusses the importance of building psychological, physical, spiritual, social, and intellectual energy to facilitate change through strategies like connecting people and creating learning environments.

The best stats you've ever seen by hans roslingDarpan Deoghare
Hans Rosling is a medical doctor and statistician who co-founded the Gapminder Foundation. He taught a class on global development where students had preconceived notions about statistics that failed to predict realities. Rosling argued there is a pressing need to make publicly available data more accessible by moving it out of databases and into searchable, visual formats. This allows people to more easily understand and use data to identify patterns and insights, helping to address common myths. Managers should analyze their company's non-confidential data and transform it into logical infographics to encourage employees to gather new insights.
Intel, Cloudera and guest speaker Forrester Research, Inc. discuss the strategy of pervasive analytics and real life examples of how analytics have already been embedded into applications and workflows.
Big Data - Bridging Technology and HumansMark Laurance

It outlines five ways big data can create value for organizations, including making information more transparent and usable, improving performance through data collection, narrow customer segmentation, improved decision making, and better product development. The document also warns of a potential shortage of analytics talent as organizations seek to take advantage of big data.
The document introduces EzyInsights, a company that provides social media analytics tools. It discusses why the company was founded, noting that existing big data tools are powerful but not fully utilized. Case studies show how customers like YleX and Spotify have used EzyInsights to improve engagement on Facebook and monitor competitors. The document outlines some of EzyInsights' key analytics features for tracking engagement, conversations, influential fans and ambassadors. It emphasizes that EzyInsights aims to provide insights that drive customer decisions.

Expert Panel: Overcoming Challenges with Distributed Data to Maximize Busines...Denodo
Watch full webinar here: https://buff.ly/3wdI1il
As organizations compete in new markets and new channels, business data requirements include new data platforms and applications. Migration to the cloud typically adds more distributed data when operations set up their own data platforms. This spreads important data across on-premises and cloud-based data platforms. As a result, data silos proliferate and become difficult to access, integrate, manage, and govern. Many organizations are using cloud data platforms to consolidate data, but distributed environments are unlikely to go away.
Organizations need holistic data strategies for unifying distributed data environments to improve data access and data governance, optimize costs and performance, and take advantage of modern technologies as they arrive. This TDWI Expert Panel will focus on overcoming challenges with distributed data to maximize business value.
Key topics this panel will address include:
- Developing the right strategy for your use cases and workloads in distributed data environments, such as data fabrics, data virtualization, and data mesh
- Deciding whether to consolidate data silos or bridge them with distributed data technologies
- Enabling easier self-service access and analytics across a distributed data environment
- Maximizing the value of data catalogs and other data intelligence technologies for distributed data environments
- Monitoring and data observability for spotting problems and ensuring business satisfaction

End-to-end pipeline agility - Berlin Buzzwords 2024Lars Albertsson
We describe how we achieve high change agility in data engineering by eliminating the fear of breaking downstream data pipelines through end-to-end pipeline testing, and by using schema metaprogramming to safely eliminate boilerplate involved in changes that affect whole pipelines.
A quick poll on agility in changing pipelines from end to end indicated a huge span in capabilities. For the question "How long time does it take for all downstream pipelines to be adapted to an upstream change," the median response was 6 months, but some respondents could do it in less than a day. When quantitative data engineering differences between the best and worst are measured, the span is often 100x-1000x, sometimes even more.
A long time ago, we suffered at Spotify from fear of changing pipelines due to not knowing what the impact might be downstream. We made plans for a technical solution to test pipelines end-to-end to mitigate that fear, but the effort failed for cultural reasons. We eventually solved this challenge, but in a different context. In this presentation we will describe how we test full pipelines effectively by manipulating workflow orchestration, which enables us to make changes in pipelines without fear of breaking downstream.
Making schema changes that affect many jobs also involves a lot of toil and boilerplate. Using schema-on-read mitigates some of it, but has drawbacks since it makes it more difficult to detect errors early. We will describe how we have rejected this tradeoff by applying schema metaprogramming, eliminating boilerplate but keeping the protection of static typing, thereby further improving agility to quickly modify data pipelines without fear.
The Building Blocks of QuestDB, a Time Series Databasejavier ramirez
Talk Delivered at Valencia Codes Meetup 2024-06.
Traditionally, databases have treated timestamps just as another data type. However, when performing real-time analytics, timestamps should be first class citizens and we need rich time semantics to get the most out of our data. We also need to deal with ever growing datasets while keeping performant, which is as fun as it sounds.
It is no wonder time-series databases are now more popular than ever before. Join me in this session to learn about the internal architecture and building blocks of QuestDB, an open source time-series database designed for speed. We will also review a history of some of the changes we have gone over the past two years to deal with late and unordered data, non-blocking writes, read-replicas, or faster batch ingestion.

ViewShift: Hassle-free Dynamic Policy Enforcement for Every Data LakeWalaa Eldin Moustafa
Dynamic policy enforcement is becoming an increasingly important topic in today’s world where data privacy and compliance is a top priority for companies, individuals, and regulators alike. In these slides, we discuss how LinkedIn implements a powerful dynamic policy enforcement engine, called ViewShift, and integrates it within its data lake. We show the query engine architecture and how catalog implementations can automatically route table resolutions to compliance-enforcing SQL views. Such views have a set of very interesting properties: (1) They are auto-generated from declarative data annotations. (2) They respect user-level consent and preferences (3) They are context-aware, encoding a different set of transformations for different use cases (4) They are portable; while the SQL logic is only implemented in one SQL dialect, it is accessible in all engines.

Data Virtualization Connects the Users to the Data That They Need
1. Data virtualization allows you to connect to (almost) any data source
2. You can combine and transform that data into the format needed by the
consumer
3. The data can be exposed to the consumers in a format and interface that is
usable by them
• Typically consumers use the tools that they already use – they don’t have to learn new tools
and skills to access the data
4. All of this can be done without copying or moving the data
• The data stays in the original sources (databases, applications, files, etc.) and is retrieved, in
real-time, on demand
