Hadoop is rapidly becoming a development platform and dominant server environment, and organizations are keen to take advantage of its massively scalable – and relatively inexpensive – resources. It is not, however, without its limitations, and it often requires a contingent of complementary components in order to behave within an information architecture. One area often overlooked is security, a factor that, if not considered from the onset, can insert great risk when putting sensitive data in Hadoop.
Register for this episode of The Briefing Room to learn from veteran Analyst Dr. Robin Bloor as he discusses how security was never a design point for Hadoop and what organizations can do about it. He’ll be briefed by Sudeep Venkatesh of HP Security Voltage, who will explain the intricacies surrounding a secure Hadoop implementation. He will show how techniques like format-preserving and partial-field encryption can allow for analytics over protected data, with zero performance impact.

How to Load Data More Quickly and Accurately into Oracle's Life Sciences Data...Perficient, Inc.
Sponsors and CROs know the value of having a consolidated and regulatory-compliant data warehouse, such as Oracle’s Life Sciences Data Hub (LSH), as well as the importance of consistently loading data into that warehouse quickly and accurately.
However, as data structures from the source files change over time, it can be very time consuming to modify the data structure in the warehouse itself. Additionally, for the large groups of SAS datasets that are typical for a clinical trial, the out-of-the-box load times can be quite long, as the data is loaded one set at a time.
Perficient has the answer. In this webinar, we discussed and demonstrated an autoloader tool that greatly simplifies the data loading process for LSH. We showed how the autoloader can automatically load files, detect metadata changes, upgrade target structures, and load data, all with no human intervention. In addition, we demonstrated how Perficient’s autoloader tool can load multiple datasets in parallel to minimize load times.
Reasons Why Health Data is Poorly Integrated Today and What We Can Do About ItShahid Shah
Presented at the 3rd Annual Open Source EHR Summit - Key takeaways:
* Any enterprise app which acts like a consumer app that doesn’t integrate well into hospital or ambulatory systems and workflows is doomed
* There’s nothing unique about health IT data that justifies complex, expensive, or special technology.
* There’s a lot unique about healthcare workflows that require common technologies to be adapted properly.

OSEHRA Summit 2012 Lunch Keynote - The Myth of Health Data Integration Complexity. This is an opinionated look at why current health IT systems integrate poorly and how it’s a big opportunity for the OSEHRA Community.
Background:
* A deluge of healthcare data is being created as we digitize biology, chemistry, and physics.
* Data changes the questions we ask and it can actually democratize and improve the science of medicine, if we let it.
* While cures are the only real miracles of medicine, big data can help solve intractable problems and lead to more cures.
* Healthcare-focused software engineering is going to do more harm than good (industry-neutral is better).
Key takeaways:
* Major opportunity for systems integrators
* Applications come and go, data lives forever. He who owns, integrates, and uses data wins in the end.
* Never leave your data in the hands of an application/system vendor.
* There’s nothing special about health IT data that justifies complex, expensive, or special technology.
* Spend freely on multiple systems and integration-friendly solutions.

AI today and its power to transform healthcareBonnie Cheuk
[Dr Bonnie Cheuk's Presentation at Digital Leadership Forum, 1 Apr 2021] AI sounds so magical. What exactly is AI? How humans learn and how data-driven AI Machines learn differ greatly. We need to set the right expectation as to what AI can do and create value. In this 20-min presentation, Bonnie shared a few (surprising) examples how AI has been applied in the business. You will learn that AI requires us to understand the future of work requires humans and machines to collaborate as diverse team members. Humans need to build learning agility to ensure we trust and learn to challenge AI solutions at the same time. Learning agility is defined as 5 work habits to empower humans to continuously learn and unlearn as we carry out our day-to-day work and life. AI requires us to focus on human experience, and be human centric. Learn more about my thinking on https://sense-making.org/bonniecheuk/ or https://sense-making.org/videos-audio-lectures/

ABD209_Accelerating the Speed of Innovation with a Data Sciences Data & Analy...Amazon Web Services
"Historically, silos of data, analytics, and processes across functions, stages of development, and geography created a barrier to R&D efficiency. Gathering the right data necessary for decision-making was challenging due to issues of accessibility, trust, and timeliness. In this session, learn how Takeda is undergoing a transformation in R&D to increase the speed-to-market of high-impact therapies to improve patient lives. The Data and Analytics Hub was built, with Deloitte, to address these issues and support the efficient generation of data insights for functions such as clinical operations, clinical development, medical affairs, portfolio management, and R&D finance. In the AWS hosted data lake, this data is processed, integrated, and made available to business end users through data visualization interfaces, and to data scientists through direct connectivity. Learn how Takeda has achieved significant time reductions—from weeks to minutes—to gather and provision data that has the potential to reduce cycle times in drug development. The hub also enables more efficient operations and alignment to achieve product goals through cross functional team accountability and collaboration due to the ability to access the same cross domain data.

A Modern Data Strategy for Precision MedicineCloudera, Inc.
Genomics is upon us, made possible by big data and the technologies designed to support it. Doctors, who historically used clinical data, and researchers, who historically used genomic data, are now increasingly focused on analyzing the same single data set: introducing the opportunity to share bodies of knowledge, fostering collaborative innovation, and driving toward higher standards of care.
However, this data is enormous – volumes of genomic data are expected to reach two to four exabytes per year by 2025, yet the cost of genetic sequencing has decreased 100-fold over the past 10 years.
Cloudera is helping solve the big data problem with its Apache Hadoop-based platform for large-scale data processing, discovery, and analytics; putting precision medicine within reach.
Modernizing Architecture for a Complete Data StrategyCloudera, Inc.
Data is the future of business. Either take advantage of it, or get surpassed by those who do.
In this webinar, Ovum's Tony Baer discusses the importance of building a modern data strategy that ensures your journey with Apache Hadoop and big data is a successful one. Together, we'll walk through how to build a plan for long-term success while realizing short-term gains, including:
How to pinpoint the business goals that matter most
How to assess your strengths and weaknesses to meet those goals
How to build a thoughtful approach that ensures your initiatives succeed
Intel, Cloudera and guest speaker Forrester Research, Inc. discuss the strategy of pervasive analytics and real life examples of how analytics have already been embedded into applications and workflows.

Techniques to optimize the pagerank algorithm usually fall in two categories. One is to try reducing the work per iteration, and the other is to try reducing the number of iterations. These goals are often at odds with one another. Skipping computation on vertices which have already converged has the potential to save iteration time. Skipping in-identical vertices, with the same in-links, helps reduce duplicate computations and thus could help reduce iteration time. Road networks often have chains which can be short-circuited before pagerank computation to improve performance. Final ranks of chain nodes can be easily calculated. This could reduce both the iteration time, and the number of iterations. If a graph has no dangling nodes, pagerank of each strongly connected component can be computed in topological order. This could help reduce the iteration time, no. of iterations, and also enable multi-iteration concurrency in pagerank computation. The combination of all of the above methods is the STICD algorithm. [sticd] For dynamic graphs, unchanged components whose ranks are unaffected can be skipped altogether.
