The document describes FluCast, a mobile app that provides risk assessment and forecasts of seasonal flu. The app uses data from sources like CDC, weather reports, and social media to predict flu trends up to 3 weeks in advance with 90% accuracy. It is targeted at epidemiologists and other officials. The app allows users to view forecasts, access a news stream of flu information from RSS/Twitter, and receive outbreak alerts via notifications. It was developed using tools like Flask and PhoneGap with a focus on easy sharing of data and a clean user interface. Future directions may include offline access, additional data sources, and expanded analytics.
I never got to show these slides, but I blogged their existence and told people to go look. With over 2000 views in the first week, I guess people did. Ya can't keep people off social media! :-)
The document discusses how Twitter data can provide insights into trends, events, and conversations happening around the world in real-time. It provides examples of how Twitter data analysis can be used for applications like customer service, marketing research, and corporate strategy. Finally, it outlines how Twitter data powers an ecosystem of analytics providers, brands, and agencies who leverage the data for insights and actions.
91 Free Twitter Tools and Apps to Fit Any NeedBuffer
We’ve collected a great bunch of free tools for Twitter - all the tools we’ve found helpful and many more that we’re excited to try. If there’s a free Twitter tool out there, you’re likely to find a mention here in our list.
This document presents a proof of concept for using Twitter data to conduct syndromic surveillance for public health monitoring. It analyzed tweets containing the keyword "measles" between 2014-2015 and found 1,408 relevant tweets. The number of tweets mentioning measles was compared to confirmed measles cases from a national surveillance system, showing potential for Twitter data as an early warning system. However, limitations include using a single keyword and the free Twitter API. Future work proposed improving data collection, applying machine learning techniques, and validating tweets with other health data sources.

Using Twitter And Social Networking As A Toolmfaulkner
Michael Faulkner presents on using Twitter for situational awareness and public information during emergencies. Twitter allows real-time information sharing from any location. It was useful during disasters like wildfires and protests by providing firsthand updates. However, content is mostly casual conversations and promotions. Physical infrastructure is required and content cannot be regulated. Government use requires clear social media policies regarding appropriate content. Twitter provides a way to disseminate brief, urgent messages to a broad audience but has limitations and drawbacks to consider for emergency situations.
The document summarizes a webinar between the Office of Minority Health and AIDS.gov about developing new media strategies. They discuss using tools like blogs, podcasts, and social media to share health information and engage diverse audiences. The presentation explores how to understand audience needs, set objectives, develop a strategic plan, implement technologies, and evaluate success.
Using Twitter Data to Provide Qualitative Insights into Infectious Disease Ou...Dr Wasim Ahmed
In the 21st century there has been a burst of social media platforms and these platforms are now used by a significant subset of the global population. Originally intended for personal use, over time, social media have come to be used for commercial insight, and then for academic research. Now, a number of different disciplines are designing and conducting research on social media. This talk provides an overview of a PhD project that undertook an in-depth qualitative analysis of data related to three major virus outbreaks, namely, the 2009 Swine Flu Pandemic, the 2014 Ebola Epidemic, and the 2016 Zika epidemic.

It raises questions about developing research methods for studying social media given its rapid evolution. It also discusses establishing a research agenda for IMIA to explore leveraging social tools and implications at the intersection of health, informatics and social media.
Aquent/AMA Webcast: Healthcare Social Media: The Conversation That Is Definin...Aquent
Active healthcare social media discussions cover all aspects of healthcare, from a full range of disease states to specific treatment strategies. These conversations can shape consumers’ view of your brand – and pharmaceutical companies are sometimes the only voice absent from the conversation. Within online discussion, which healthcare topics drive the conversation? Who is talking? How much of the discussion is about therapeutic areas – and how much is brand-specific? What do patients and caregivers share in this environment? What can we learn by using social media as a market research input? Find out more in this webcast presented by Melissa Davies, Strategic Account Director, Healthcare of NM Incite (A Nielsen/McKinsey Company).

Overall life span (LS) was 1671.7±1721.6 days and cumulative 5YS reached 62.4%, 10 years – 50.4%, 20 years – 44.6%. 94 LCP lived more than 5 years without cancer (LS=2958.6±1723.6 days), 22 – more than 10 years (LS=5571±1841.8 days). 67 LCP died because of LC (LS=471.9±344 days). AT significantly improved 5YS (68% vs. 53.7%) (P=0.028 by log-rank test). Cox modeling displayed that 5YS of LCP significantly depended on: N0-N12, T3-4, blood cell circuit, cell ratio factors (ratio between cancer cells-CC and blood cells subpopulations), LC cell dynamics, recalcification time, heparin tolerance, prothrombin index, protein, AT, procedure type (P=0.000-0.031). Neural networks, genetic algorithm selection and bootstrap simulation revealed relationships between 5YS and N0-12 (rank=1), thrombocytes/CC (rank=2), segmented neutrophils/CC (3), eosinophils/CC (4), erythrocytes/CC (5), healthy cells/CC (6), lymphocytes/CC (7), stick neutrophils/CC (8), leucocytes/CC (9), monocytes/CC (10). Correct prediction of 5YS was 100% by neural networks computing (error=0.000; area under ROC curve=1.0).
Cell Therapy Expansion and Challenges in Autoimmune DiseaseHealth Advances
There is increasing confidence that cell therapies will soon play a role in the treatment of autoimmune disorders, but the extent of this impact remains to be seen. Early readouts on autologous CAR-Ts in lupus are encouraging, but manufacturing and cost limitations are likely to restrict access to highly refractory patients. Allogeneic CAR-Ts have the potential to broaden access to earlier lines of treatment due to their inherent cost benefits, however they will need to demonstrate comparable or improved efficacy to established modalities.
In addition to infrastructure and capacity constraints, CAR-Ts face a very different risk-benefit dynamic in autoimmune compared to oncology, highlighting the need for tolerable therapies with low adverse event risk. CAR-NK and Treg-based therapies are also being developed in certain autoimmune disorders and may demonstrate favorable safety profiles. Several novel non-cell therapies such as bispecific antibodies, nanobodies, and RNAi drugs, may also offer future alternative competitive solutions with variable value propositions.
Widespread adoption of cell therapies will not only require strong efficacy and safety data, but also adapted pricing and access strategies. At oncology-based price points, CAR-Ts are unlikely to achieve broad market access in autoimmune disorders, with eligible patient populations that are potentially orders of magnitude greater than the number of currently addressable cancer patients. Developers have made strides towards reducing cell therapy COGS while improving manufacturing efficiency, but payors will inevitably restrict access until more sustainable pricing is achieved.
Despite these headwinds, industry leaders and investors remain confident that cell therapies are poised to address significant unmet need in patients suffering from autoimmune disorders. However, the extent of this impact on the treatment landscape remains to be seen, as the industry rapidly approaches an inflection point.
