Within the Smart Grid ecosystem, the time for human resources strategy development is now. Forward-thinking utilities, technology vendors, power engineering companies, universities, and government agencies will not try to reinvent the wheel, but rather leverage as many best practices as possible. This inaugural study by Zpryme and Smartgridcareers.com gives Smart Grid hiring managers the baseline data they need to start benchmarking their human capital strategy. The key findings and recommendations of this report will help utilities and Smart Grid vendors anticipate the challenges that lie ahead. Further, universities across the United States must begin to educate a new generation of energy leaders from diverse backgrounds in computer engineering, computer science, and engineering-focused IT.

In today\'s ultra-competitive workforce, your business can\'t afford NOT to have a business mentoring program. After all, the skills of your company’s executives and employees are your most valuable assets. Corporate mentoring programs provide a means of cultivating those skills throughout your organization. This translates into talent retention (instead of turnover), happier employees and management, and a healthier bottom line. Check out our sales presentation to learn more about what a corporate mentoring program can mean to your company.

Qualification requirements for employment in the Smart Grid sector are rigorous, with many employers seeking candidates with advanced degrees, a host of ancillary certifications and highly specialized work experience. Those meeting these stringent standards are becoming a coveted group of highly sought after hires, and the cost of recruiting them is on the rise, as evidenced by increasing salaries and a more widespread use of hiring bonuses. Understanding the inherent challenges in recruiting and retaining this elusive group, some employers are beginning to tap into the new graduate pool of Smart Grid hopefuls. However, this strategy is not without its roadblocks, as comprehensive, Smart Grid curricula that incorporates the hands-on experience needed to fully develop a candidate’s skills is far from prolific

Advanced BPM is more than a series of tools and techniques to view and improve our business. It is a 'practical thinking approach' or a 'business attitude' to be orientated to as much of the business as the practitioner or management requires. If implemented to the greatest degree, a company may design and represent its organisation charts around the customer and the specific outcomes it is looking to create.
A detailed overview of the Advanced BPM Framework as the latest wave of BPM change approaches and how it aligns to the practical change framework required in 2013 and beyond. 9 tools to identify, prioritise and deliver revenue/cost/service improvement change. An implementation framework that can be easily dovetailed into existing best practice approaches to practically deliver change in a secure, structured and low risk manner
The thinking, tools and techniques within Advanced BPM can be applied directly to our own organisations after less than a week of training. The terminology used can be adopted, if necessary, across an enterprise although in reality many will apply the tools and make changes without ever having to be too specific as to the techniques used. This may range from the individual improving performance from the context of the remit where they have influence, to sustained change programmes at an organisation level.

Advanced BPM utilises the latest customer centric methodologies to deliver a change strategy that is in line with the organisation’s performance requirements and the challenges of the times. Our change model is all about moving from delivering “capability” to delivering “value” - empowering the appointed change agents with the thinking, tools and techniques that can be immediately utilised in their organisation. It provides a map that guides them every step of the way to identify customer outcome and change opportunities that can then implemented in a structured and risk mitigated fashion.
In an aim to gain practical insights on employer trust dimensions, Who Group has embarked on a joint study using a unique psychological model, HuTrust®, to investigate Australian employees’ trust profiles. Findings indicate that despite Australia having a high performing economy in comparison to other countries, employers scored a relatively low trust score. In addition, research analysis indicates that the key ingredient that drives employee engagement and performance is trust.
This is the first study to really examine trust in employees as a benchmark. The survey utilised is based on HuTrust® which is a robust and valid psychological tool for measuring trust and has previously been utilised to research target populations in various sectors and countries, including Canada, Singapore and Australia.
Who Group has teamed up with mext consulting to embark on this joint study that surveyed employees across Australia covering a wide range of industries from SMEs to large corporations, diverse age groups and genders. The aim is to identify employees trust profiles in relation to their employer. The profile includes the level of trust employees have for their employer; the areas in which they trust or do not trust their employer according to the HuTrust® model; how engaged employees are; and how much more productive they would be if they trusted their employer.

Electronic signatures
Contracts are a major source of paper usage in business. Firstly
there is the need to print contracts and sign them, then the need
to fax them to the recipient, which uses the same amount of paper
again. However technology is now becoming available that enables
electronic signatures to be used. The services to look for are those that
comply with the UK Electronic Signatures Act, which gives electronic
contracts the same weight as those executed on paper.
Electronic signatures mean documents never need to be printed.
This creates a major saving in paper usage
In addition to this, there is the potential to cut down on the
office space needed to store hard copies of all such documents
With the possibility for smaller premises comes the potential for
lower energy bills from the reduced heating and lighting costs.
Case study: Henmore Marketing moves business to a virtual
work space
Henmore Marketing specialises in delivering marketing communications and consultancy
services to IT and technology companies. MD Catherine Doel’s knowledge of the
technology market meant she had been quick to see an opportunity to move her
business to a ‘virtual’ footing.
Henmore Marketing shifted to home-working. Enabled by broadband, all employees
could now be happy home-workers with the same access to the company network
as they used to enjoy from the office.
But after a stolen laptop scare, a few days of seriously delayed email, and the new
challenge of managing email through a firewall at a client’s site, Catherine knew she
had a problem ensuring communications and access to key documents was kept at
the required levels. This led Henmore Marketing to embrace BT Workspace software.
It helps them ensure that team members always work on the correct version of
important documents, while client communication now takes place via discussion
forums in the workspace.
As well as the cost savings of no longer needing to pay rent for office space, there was
a clear environmental benefit in the form of reduced employee travel and power usage.
The combination of broadband and workspace software helped to transform the way
Henmore do business.
