- Mentors should be professional representatives of the university, maintain confidentiality, and set a positive example through their attitude and communications. - Mentors are expected to commit regular time to communicate with their mentees at least 5 times, ask questions, share experiences and lessons learned, and provide a supportive relationship. - Part of being a guide is sharing useful contacts, information about university processes, and helping mentees learn to navigate the system. Mentors should also encourage participation in activities, goal setting, and empower mentees to share their own successes.
