Ian Carmichael completed an internship with the Career Development Center where he gained experience in career counseling and providing customer service to students. As part of the internship, Ian created a report analyzing data on student wait times and appointment durations for drop-in career counseling sessions. He also helped manage the Career Ambassador Program by developing a system for ambassadors to track their hours and facilitating communication between ambassadors and staff. Through completing various projects, Ian further developed his communication, critical thinking, and organizational skills to help prepare for a future career in supply chain management.

Executive Summary
As the Career Development Intern for the Center for Career and
Professional Development, I developed knowledge of career
counseling in resume and cover letter revision, job searches, and
interview preparation through completing my career
competencies checklist. In addition, I established the ability to act
alone as a Career Resource Assistant by providing excellent
customer service to students, faculty, and alumni while learning
to schedule appointments in person and over the phone for all
types of career related services. Over the course of the summer,
my experiences developed my communication, critical-thinking,
and organizational skills. Furthermore, I applied my skills to a
variety of projects including a report focused on student drop-in
average wait time and average appointment time, utilizing my
education and industry specific knowledge, and was also in charge
of the logistics and communication portion of the Career
Ambassador Program. With regards to the Career Ambassador
Program, I created a systemfor the CA’s (Career Ambassadors) to
report and track their weekly hours through tablets located
throughout the Career Resource Library, as well as the content
and design of weekly communication between Career Center staff
and the CA’s. My drop-in report centered on organizing drop-in
data, then using a process perspective developed from my
education in supply chain management to look at Career Resource
Center Operations from a different perspective.
