1. PURPOSE
This Method Statement is prepared to ensure that construction of buildings for the project shall
comply on plans specifications and all relevant standard and code requirements in the execution
of different work activities to be performed in the construction of buildings and other relevant
structures associated with the project in general. In addition, this will serve as a tool to guide all
technical personnel and layman execute proper construction procedures complied with the
quality and safety plans for the project.

5.3 Detail Procedure
5.3.1 Preparation and Survey work
- Prior to the commencement of excavating works, the surveyor will establish control points in
suitable locations to control excavating area, confirming the construction drawings of excavation
areas to be attached as addition to this method statement distribute details to all concerned
parties as required.
5.3.2 Excavation work
- Excavation shall be done in a safe and sequential manner on the basis of the prepared plan
drawings and in accordance with the instructions by the Engineer.
- The excavation method is either machine, manual cut or both and take care it to not disturb the
soil below.
- During excavation, it is necessary to make drainage ditch slope to sump pit as precaution in
case raining and ground water occurs during construction.
- Ground water will be drained by water pump with hose line is allocated to sump pit then
discharge to the river. Contractor shall monitor ground water level and continuously run the

dewatering pumps to maintain dry working platform when ground water is encountered.
Additional pumps will be added if the pumping capacity is insufficient.
- Excavated soil to be loaded to dump truck and transported to the stockpile. Unsuitable material
and waste material shall be removed from site to the waste yard in accordance with the
specification requirements.
5.3.3 Excavation up to design level
- During excavation, pile may be cut above the design cutoff level if necessary. Excavation shall
be taken care between the piles using small bucket (< 0.5 m3) or manual shoveling.
- After completion of excavation, dimensions and elevation of bottom area will be checked by
surveyor. The bottom will be leveled and compacted.
5.3.4 Sand back filling
- After completion of foundation concrete work and other concrete work under the ground, sand
back filling will be executed in uniform horizontal layers across the full area of the foundation
without segregation.
- Approved suitable material should be used for backfilling. Compaction standard shall be
employed in the execution of this work.
- Fill materials shall be distributed evenly to the backfill area to a specified thickness of
compaction = 150mm thick and compacted by compactor to a specified compaction factor.
Sprinkle water to the earth fill in compliance with the allowable moisture contents specified
before start compaction.

6. QUALITY CONTROL
· Compaction of Backfilling
- After excavation, the bottom surface of pit shall be compacted to not less than 95% of
maximum dry density by vibratory plate compactor and the slope shall be trimmed off to avoid
collapse of pit wall.
- The fill material shall be checked and accepted by the Engineer before carrying out the work.
· Survey of excavated area
- After completion of excavation, dimensions shall be checked and recorded as attachment 1.
