Examples Of Observation On Child Observation
Observation of Child Behaviour
1)Introduction:
The purpose of this paper is to analyse my observations of a child's development that I was able to observe. This paper is about child observation on
different domains such as Physical Development, Language Development, Cognitive Development and Social and Emotional Development. Each
domain contains a description of child during the recorded observation.
I described below about the characteristic of the child's development. The purpose of observing the young child is to guide and enable teachers to
provide appropriate, critical guidance based on the child needs, and to provide objective, insightful feedback and engage parents in their child's
development.
2) Subject of this study
I observed a child, Trisha (coded name) of four years and three months old at the time of observation. She is studying in Nursery 2 with 9 other
children and a teacher–in–charge. She has a 7 year old brother. She is Chinese and speaks in Mandarin most of the time. Trisha is 103 cm and 18 kg.
3) Method
I used a naturalistic observation technique to collect data. It enables me to observe and records what happens in the natural environment. I observed the
child at different times in various settings. Each...show more content...
Trisha took her own initiative to take materials such as a book and a hardboard game to play with. According to Erik Erikson, the third stage of his
theory, initiative versus guilt, spans ages three to six years. As Trisha plays with unfamiliar objects on her own accord, she "continues to develop (her)
self–concept and gain a desire to try new things and to learn new things". She still remains "responsible for (her) actions to some extent" as she asked
her friend to move a side when she needs to proceed to another place. She is able to "assert control" over her environment in order to take the initiative

Child Care and Observation Essay
Observation is very important in young children because that is how you get to know a child better. While observing how a child interacts with their
peers, adults, and how they behave in different settings, you are getting to know the child without speaking to them.
It may be important to observe a child but at the same time it may mislead you into being judgmental, too soon. For instance, if you observe a child
misbehaving, not getting along with the other children or talking back to the teacher, you might get the impression that he/she is a 'bad' child and you
might treat and act differently with that particular child.
From my personal experiences, I have to come to the conclusion that it doesn't always work the way I believe...show more content...
At the daycare, I try not to let my observations take over a situation. If I see hit Gaspar rather then jump to conclusions and scold Vincent, I talk to the
both of them and ask questions, like, ?Why did you hit him?? ?What made you so angry that you felt you had to hit him?? ?How did that make you
feel?? so on and so forth.
Observations are very important but it is not good to be judgmental when observing because you may be observing a child who in reality is a good
kid but is acting aggressively because he/she is having a bad day and you might just categorize the child wrongfully.
1. Taylor is trying to fill a bucket with water. It has a hole in the bottom. He begins to fill it and water dribbles out he gets frustrated and begins to cry
loudly.
Taylor feels helpless in this situation and is unhappy that things are not going her way. She needs to know that there are other options. The way I
would handle it is by telling her, ? Taylor, there is no need to cry, there is a hole in the bottom of the bucket and that is why the water is coming
out. I understand that you might be a little frustrated because you want to play wit the water but let?s not cry. I have a solution, why don?t we go
inside and see if we can fix it. If it is not fixable then we can go and look for another bucket so we can play with the water.

My first thought about this subject was that it would be really fun and exciting because of the subject's description, "Observational Child Study",
where we can already experience actual child observation. Fortunately, I was right. Our professor tackled amazing topics that really served as an
eyeopener. We encountered topics about the characteristics of some of the disabilities like autism, attention deficit hyperactive disorder, learning
disabilities, and also, developmental delays. We even had the chance to test ourselves using the checklists or the assessment tools used for assessing
children with special needs. Observation is the main point of our subject. Our professor discussed some of the tips on how to observe children in a
proper way. Narrative report was also included in the process. We made written reports about the 10–minutes observations we made from employees

I already learned the basics of observing and making a narrative report of the observations made. This subject disciplined me in making the task
properly and passing it on time. I thought, observing children would be a hard job to do but I was wrong. It was really interesting and fun because I
witnessed unusual behaviors and happy faces from children I've encountered that really motivated me to do my very best to pursue my goals and
achieve what I really wanted to do and that is to really become a Special Education teacher. Honestly, I never thought of using checklists in assessing
and observing individuals because I thought it would only be written observation with no basis. That is why I got shocked and interested when our
professor introduced the assessment checklist for some of the disabilities. Leadership was also developed during our SPED 4 experience. There were
times where I remind my classmates about the alloted time, the tasks given and the do's and dont's of the requirements and that is really a good

The child I've chosen for my observation is an lively child for being 9 years old, a girl named Sophia. She is 53 inches in stature and 30 kg in weight,
Sophia is in average for her height and weight based on a CDC growth chart for age. (CDC, 2 to 20 years: Girl) She is developing normally and she is
average for her age during the primary school years. I've chosen this particular child because she is much more active than most of children in the
class. Most of times, Sophia is initiative to discuss and talk about the problems with the teacher in class. Also, she often voluntary raised her hand to
give the response and answer the questions to the teacher. Not only that, she likes to talk with her classmate even the teacher is talking. From my
observation, I feel like that Sophia will concentrate when the things are interesting her. If not, she will talk or do other stuff rather than pay attention
on it. Thus, I believe Sophia is perform well at the aspect she likes it, meanwhile she takes less...show more content...
She is in the stage of social play, "By interacting with others in play settings, children learn social rules such as, give and take, reciprocity,
cooperation, and sharing."(CDI, Types of Play) Social play is playing together and taking turns. Sophia is being a good friend to her classmates, she
plays with them cooperatively through communication with each others. Sophia gets along with her classmate quite well. Through these physical
play with peers can provide opportunities to help child develop the motor skills and beneficial for them to keep active. Overall, Sophia is in the
average range for her age. In all aspects her physical development is ordinary. She can do her work independently, sometimes with a little bit help.
She can play, run, write and eat. She knows what is required to do in class that follow the instructions. Sophia is physically fit, she does everything

For my final project, I conducted my observation on an eight month old little boy named Noah. I observed how well he could perform tasks at his
age of eight months. I performed my evaluation in the late afternoon at his home. The duration of the evaluation took place in the family room. It
was a large room that was fully carpeted. The room had a large "L" shaped sectional couch in one corner and a round solid wooden coffee table
directly in front of that. I obtained his parents' consent before conducting my experiment and collecting my data for this section of the final project.
To determine if Noah could perform tasks appropriate for his age group, I had him do a couple different skills, without prompting hardly at all, that
were appropriate for his age group. At the age of eight months, Noah is able to sit up and crawl. He...show more content...
The test here was to really see if he would bang it against something. Noah waved the spoon around but was quickly bored of it and did not bang it on
anything. He showed no signs of hand preference. He moved toys freely between both hands and didn't reach for toys with any specific hand when
handed something.
I wanted to see if Noah had interest in finding a toy under a cup. His mother and I prompted him, but he seemed much more interested in the cup than
the toy. He only sometimes revealed the toy and did not seem to grasp the "game" we were playing. I decided to try a task from seven months since
Noah didn't seem interested in the cup or the spoon.
To see whether Noah could pull a string to obtain an object, I got out a toy he seemed to gravitate to all afternoon. It was a toy with a string and
colorful ribbon attached at the end. I tried to get him to play with the toy but he was not very interested and crawled over it. I did however notice him
picking up the string, and saw him grasping it so this would be considered appropriate seven month old

For this project, I observed my mother's preschool class and the three children which she baby–sits on weekends. Most of the kids that are in the
preschool class were three years old, but there was one five year old. The kids I helped baby–sit were two twin three year old girls, and one five year
old.
When I first arrived at the preschool, the kids seemed very shy towards me and they did not seem like they were very sociable. I was a stranger to
them, and I would have to guess that all of the children were experiencing a little bit of stranger anxiety. I talked to my mother about how the children
reacted at the beginning of the year when they did not know her and the parents left them there. She said that the children often would...show more

These children believed that these creatures were real, but they just could not see them. But, the fun with the leprechauns had just begun. To test the
children?s belief in the unrealistic, I had my mother and the kids make little pots, and then I had my mother tell all of the kids that if they were good, the
leprechaun would leave them gold in their pot. While these kids were eating their snacks, I left and put gold candy in their pots, and then waited for
their reactions and comments when they came back to see what had happened. I wish I could have recorded their reactions because some of them were
hilarious. I noticed that one child jumped around and screamed that ?he was here, he was here,? and another child was looking around the room trying
to find the leprechaun. Overall, I found that my animistic thinking project worked well. To conclude my observations on animistic thinking, I found
that most of the kids seemed to have beliefs based on what they sensed to be true, rather than on what would be logic or rational.
Language development between the three–year–old kids, and the five–year–old kids was amazing. There were some grammatical morpheme problems
that I picked up on throughout my stay at the preschool and when I was baby–sitting the other girls. I did not notice many mistakes by the five–year–old
girl, in fact she was

Child Observation
Observation is vital when you're trying to guide behavior. With observation you can learn what interests or what children have struggles with. You
can also learn how a child tackles problems or handles their frustrations, and it can also help you understand why children do the stuff they do. When
you have accurate and detailed observations you can provide more precise information to parents about their child's behavior and also to your
administrators and colleagues. There are 6 different types of recording methods you can use. The first is checklists, this method is the main one used
by schools and programs to provide families with information about their children. Checklists are also used as tools to see what children are capable

My observation experience was at the Kalamazoo Public Library Central Branch. The students were around 6 months old to 8 years old. The staff
was one older women and two men, an older man and a younger man. They performed a play for the families and their children. I learned that it's
important to keep the children's attention and try to involve them in the activity. The children did a much better job of being quiet when the
performers were talking to them. Also, I learned that children will pay more attention if they are laughing and smiling. The play had some silly
parts, but every child had their eyes on the performers during those parts. My interaction experience was the Kalamazoo Institute of Arts. The
students were around the age of 3 years old to 7 years old. The staff was all older women and men. I interacted with the families by greeting them
when they first arrived in building. I directed them to the location of where the story was going to be read. Also, I helped the students with their

the lesson was comprehension. For the 1st and 2nd interaction, we focused on comprehension when reading the book to the students. For the 1st
interaction, we also added vocabulary as another component. We found a Halloween song that included some vocabulary that was used in the book
and that went along with our overall theme. If I was presenting this lesson again, I would plan for more crafts. Some of the students liked the coloring

The school I went to visit was Public School 69. It was my little brothers elementary school. The reason I chose the school, was because I remember
seeing him happy every time he came home from kindergarten. Every day he would come home and have a different project he did in class to
show off. The outside of the school looked like a regular public school, but inside Miss Suzy's* (not her real name) classroom was bright, warm, and
inviting. My visitation was in the morning, right when the children began school at 8:00am. When I walked inside, the class room was baby blue with
all kinds of art projects on the walls. Miss Suzy welcomed me very kindly, and discussed with me, her srtudents and what they have been learning. You

I learned the day before my visit, Miss Suzy threw a pizza party for the children. The day of my visit they were going to make their own individual
pizzas (I did not get to view that part of the day). I noticed that during circle time, two children seemed uninterested had wandered off. Miss Suzy did
not do anything about it, she just let them be. I thought that was wrong of her because the two children were not being involved. The children could
of already known what they were speaking about. If that was the case she should of given them some work to do. When circle time was over, Miss
Suzy asked each child which part of the room they wanted to play in. Students chose dramatic play, arts and crafts, reading, and playing on the
computer. Miss Suzy walked around each group asking them questions, expanding their imaginations. Morrison states "that teachers work with
gingival children, small groups" (2003, p.232). Watching Miss Suzy, you can see she really enjoys what she does. She never once ignored a student
who went up to her. She seemed genuily interested when the children shared stories with her. She always welcomed them with a hug when walking
into the room in the morning to begin their day, and the children would come in running to hug her. Section C When the children walked into the
classroom, they all seemed excited and eager to start their day. Miss Suzy greeted each student with respect and a smile on her face. Every child
seemed to know where

Through out the observation both children were moving from place to place. The little girl would grab one toy then go find another one. She
would play one type of activity then go back to building blocks. She would stack blocks and connect the rail road tracks for the train. For
approximately 3 minutes or more the girl would stay fully engaged trying connecting the railroad tracks. She would forget that she was in a room
full of other toys, for a moment I possibly thought she could be autistic because she was able to stay focused on one activity for a long period of
time and not engage other children. Her fine motor skills were adequate for her age she was able to hold objects in her hand. While she was fascinated
in putting together the railroad...show more content...

smiled all the time even as she said "what". She seemed zoned out again I wonder if she has autism. She was told several times to stop playing but
she continued. It seemed as they would tell her to stop she would eager continue to play as if it was the last time she would play with the toys. This
was annoying to watch because she would do the opposite of what they were telling her to do. When the toys were gathered and put away, she asked
staff about 3 times "no toys". It seemed to me

For this assignment, I observed my six year old niece, Faustine Bui who was born on August 16, 2007, at the park where I was babysitting her with
her mom for approximately thirty minutes. The park I observed her at is packed with children and dogs are allowed. There is a large play area with
jungle–jims and slide and it includes a sandy area which has a variety of playing equipment as well.
I first observed Faustine's biosocial development such as physical growth, gross motor and fine motor skills. Faustine is 3 feet tall and she weighs 41
pounds according to my Aunt. She is a little shorter than a lot of the six year old that she hangs out with and the ones in the park but I think that her
height is in the normal range for kids her age...show more content...
She had a hard time conquering the jugle–jim though. She kept waddling back and forth every time she tried to get her feet up on the next bar and
she eventually gave up and refused to return to the jungle jim again. She threw a few balls here and there but she was unable to throw it very far
or accurate. By the age of three, children can already kick, throw, jump and climb things such as ladder. By the age of six, children can skip, climb
trees and over things, and catch a ball (uofmchildrenshospital.org). I was unable to observe a lot of fine motor skills from Faustine but she did pick
up a stick from the ground, hold it like a normal adult would hold a pencil, and started drawing in the sand. By the age of 2, children can scribble,
fold paper, draw vertical lines and manage semi–large object with their hands. By the age of six, children can copy letters, grasp pencils like a grown
adult, and copy complex shapes (kamloopschildrenstherapy.org).
I then observed her cognitive skills which included her language, memory, and perception. When observing Faustine, I realized that she is one
extremely talkative child. She would talk about everything and anything sometimes she'd just sit in front of us and talk to us and to herself while
playing in the sand. According to Lev Vygotskyand his social learning theory, children use private speech ("The internal dialogue that occurs when
people talk to themselves, either silently or out

Child development is an amazing thing to watch in the way that children interact with one another and how they perceive the world that surrounds.
While doing our research of child development we began to observe a group of kids ranging the ages 1 – 12. During these observations we noticed
traits such as attachment, comfort, and love. Through the following examples we will proceed to observe development in our environment and explain
its relativity to the text
Observation #1

Then with all of the commotion Antonio calmly got up as if he did not do anything to, again, check on his mother. This time she was not where he
had left her, which caused him to react by screaming, "I want my mommy, I want my mommy." Then James came over and began to do the same
thing. It was as if they had lost their security blanket. The other kids went over and began to stare at them as though there were something wrong
with them. One of the kids came up to me and said, "Why is he crying like that?" I explained to her that he wanted to be with his mommy, and she
responded, "Oh," and walked away with out a care in the world. This was a clear example of the experiment that (Harlow) ran on the monkeys in
1962. The monkeys were removed from their mother after 8 weeks of being born then placed in a cage with a surrogate mother, one of wire and the
other one was made out of terry cloth. They eventually attached them selves to the surrogate mother that was made out of the terrycloth, even though
the one that feed them was the one made out of wire. The reason was the comfort in the soft and warmth of the terrycloth, which made them feel safe.
Just like Antonio when he held on to his mother's side. Once Antonio had lost his comfort zone, he felt scared.
Harlow stated that attachment was important but it did not ensure normal social development. We saw proof of that behavior earlier with the twins
when they did not function as well in an

Step 1: Participant.
The child I chose to observe was a brown hair, Hispanic 15 month old girl. The reason I chose to observe her is because I have seen her at the daycare
before and she is always so happy, and has such a fun personality. When I began to observe her she was just getting to the center, and her parents just
dropped her off.
Step 2: Consent. You need to insure an adult responsible for the child has given you permission to observe the child.
I had to get consent from the director of Oakwood Methodist Daycare, as well as the parent. I briefly described to both the director and the parent
what my paper was going to be about, and asked if it would be okay if I observed the little girl in the infant room. The director had no problem with
it. The mother also agreed to it, but she did ask to obtain a copy of the paper before submitting it just so she could read it, and make sure everything
looked good.
Step 3: Procedure.
The place of observation took place at my work, before I clocked in for the day. I work at Oakwood Methodist Preschool/Daycare. I went in to the
daycare at about 9:00, which is just free play/ breakfast time in the infant room. The infant room I observed in was a little different than the CDRC,

Examples Of Observation On Child Observation

  • 1. Examples Of Observation On Child Observation Observation of Child Behaviour 1)Introduction: The purpose of this paper is to analyse my observations of a child's development that I was able to observe. This paper is about child observation on different domains such as Physical Development, Language Development, Cognitive Development and Social and Emotional Development. Each domain contains a description of child during the recorded observation. I described below about the characteristic of the child's development. The purpose of observing the young child is to guide and enable teachers to provide appropriate, critical guidance based on the child needs, and to provide objective, insightful feedback and engage parents in their child's development. 2) Subject of this study I observed a child, Trisha (coded name) of four years and three months old at the time of observation. She is studying in Nursery 2 with 9 other children and a teacher–in–charge. She has a 7 year old brother. She is Chinese and speaks in Mandarin most of the time. Trisha is 103 cm and 18 kg. 3) Method I used a naturalistic observation technique to collect data. It enables me to observe and records what happens in the natural environment. I observed the child at different times in various settings. Each...show more content... Trisha took her own initiative to take materials such as a book and a hardboard game to play with. According to Erik Erikson, the third stage of his theory, initiative versus guilt, spans ages three to six years. As Trisha plays with unfamiliar objects on her own accord, she "continues to develop (her) self–concept and gain a desire to try new things and to learn new things". She still remains "responsible for (her) actions to some extent" as she asked her friend to move a side when she needs to proceed to another place. She is able to "assert control" over her environment in order to take the initiative to Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 2. Child Care and Observation Essay Observation is very important in young children because that is how you get to know a child better. While observing how a child interacts with their peers, adults, and how they behave in different settings, you are getting to know the child without speaking to them. It may be important to observe a child but at the same time it may mislead you into being judgmental, too soon. For instance, if you observe a child misbehaving, not getting along with the other children or talking back to the teacher, you might get the impression that he/she is a 'bad' child and you might treat and act differently with that particular child. From my personal experiences, I have to come to the conclusion that it doesn't always work the way I believe...show more content... At the daycare, I try not to let my observations take over a situation. If I see hit Gaspar rather then jump to conclusions and scold Vincent, I talk to the both of them and ask questions, like, ?Why did you hit him?? ?What made you so angry that you felt you had to hit him?? ?How did that make you feel?? so on and so forth. Observations are very important but it is not good to be judgmental when observing because you may be observing a child who in reality is a good kid but is acting aggressively because he/she is having a bad day and you might just categorize the child wrongfully. 1. Taylor is trying to fill a bucket with water. It has a hole in the bottom. He begins to fill it and water dribbles out he gets frustrated and begins to cry loudly. Taylor feels helpless in this situation and is unhappy that things are not going her way. She needs to know that there are other options. The way I would handle it is by telling her, ? Taylor, there is no need to cry, there is a hole in the bottom of the bucket and that is why the water is coming out. I understand that you might be a little frustrated because you want to play wit the water but let?s not cry. I have a solution, why don?t we go inside and see if we can fix it. If it is not fixable then we can go and look for another bucket so we can play with the water. 2. A new child enters the center and speaks no English. He is crying after his mom just left. How do you

  • 4. Example Of Observation Child Observation I. CONTENT My first thought about this subject was that it would be really fun and exciting because of the subject's description, "Observational Child Study", where we can already experience actual child observation. Fortunately, I was right. Our professor tackled amazing topics that really served as an eyeopener. We encountered topics about the characteristics of some of the disabilities like autism, attention deficit hyperactive disorder, learning disabilities, and also, developmental delays. We even had the chance to test ourselves using the checklists or the assessment tools used for assessing children with special needs. Observation is the main point of our subject. Our professor discussed some of the tips on how to observe children in a proper way. Narrative report was also included in the process. We made written reports about the 10–minutes observations we made from employees we've...show more content... I already learned the basics of observing and making a narrative report of the observations made. This subject disciplined me in making the task properly and passing it on time. I thought, observing children would be a hard job to do but I was wrong. It was really interesting and fun because I witnessed unusual behaviors and happy faces from children I've encountered that really motivated me to do my very best to pursue my goals and achieve what I really wanted to do and that is to really become a Special Education teacher. Honestly, I never thought of using checklists in assessing and observing individuals because I thought it would only be written observation with no basis. That is why I got shocked and interested when our professor introduced the assessment checklist for some of the disabilities. Leadership was also developed during our SPED 4 experience. There were times where I remind my classmates about the alloted time, the tasks given and the do's and dont's of the requirements and that is really a good Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 5. Examples Of Child Observation The child I've chosen for my observation is an lively child for being 9 years old, a girl named Sophia. She is 53 inches in stature and 30 kg in weight, Sophia is in average for her height and weight based on a CDC growth chart for age. (CDC, 2 to 20 years: Girl) She is developing normally and she is average for her age during the primary school years. I've chosen this particular child because she is much more active than most of children in the class. Most of times, Sophia is initiative to discuss and talk about the problems with the teacher in class. Also, she often voluntary raised her hand to give the response and answer the questions to the teacher. Not only that, she likes to talk with her classmate even the teacher is talking. From my observation, I feel like that Sophia will concentrate when the things are interesting her. If not, she will talk or do other stuff rather than pay attention on it. Thus, I believe Sophia is perform well at the aspect she likes it, meanwhile she takes less...show more content... She is in the stage of social play, "By interacting with others in play settings, children learn social rules such as, give and take, reciprocity, cooperation, and sharing."(CDI, Types of Play) Social play is playing together and taking turns. Sophia is being a good friend to her classmates, she plays with them cooperatively through communication with each others. Sophia gets along with her classmate quite well. Through these physical play with peers can provide opportunities to help child develop the motor skills and beneficial for them to keep active. Overall, Sophia is in the average range for her age. In all aspects her physical development is ordinary. She can do her work independently, sometimes with a little bit help. She can play, run, write and eat. She knows what is required to do in class that follow the instructions. Sophia is physically fit, she does everything that a 9 years old child could Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 6. Example Of Child Observation For my final project, I conducted my observation on an eight month old little boy named Noah. I observed how well he could perform tasks at his age of eight months. I performed my evaluation in the late afternoon at his home. The duration of the evaluation took place in the family room. It was a large room that was fully carpeted. The room had a large "L" shaped sectional couch in one corner and a round solid wooden coffee table directly in front of that. I obtained his parents' consent before conducting my experiment and collecting my data for this section of the final project. To determine if Noah could perform tasks appropriate for his age group, I had him do a couple different skills, without prompting hardly at all, that were appropriate for his age group. At the age of eight months, Noah is able to sit up and crawl. He...show more content... The test here was to really see if he would bang it against something. Noah waved the spoon around but was quickly bored of it and did not bang it on anything. He showed no signs of hand preference. He moved toys freely between both hands and didn't reach for toys with any specific hand when handed something. I wanted to see if Noah had interest in finding a toy under a cup. His mother and I prompted him, but he seemed much more interested in the cup than the toy. He only sometimes revealed the toy and did not seem to grasp the "game" we were playing. I decided to try a task from seven months since Noah didn't seem interested in the cup or the spoon. To see whether Noah could pull a string to obtain an object, I got out a toy he seemed to gravitate to all afternoon. It was a toy with a string and colorful ribbon attached at the end. I tried to get him to play with the toy but he was not very interested and crawled over it. I did however notice him picking up the string, and saw him grasping it so this would be considered appropriate seven month old Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 7. Child Observation Report Essay For this project, I observed my mother's preschool class and the three children which she baby–sits on weekends. Most of the kids that are in the preschool class were three years old, but there was one five year old. The kids I helped baby–sit were two twin three year old girls, and one five year old. When I first arrived at the preschool, the kids seemed very shy towards me and they did not seem like they were very sociable. I was a stranger to them, and I would have to guess that all of the children were experiencing a little bit of stranger anxiety. I talked to my mother about how the children reacted at the beginning of the year when they did not know her and the parents left them there. She said that the children often would...show more content... These children believed that these creatures were real, but they just could not see them. But, the fun with the leprechauns had just begun. To test the children?s belief in the unrealistic, I had my mother and the kids make little pots, and then I had my mother tell all of the kids that if they were good, the leprechaun would leave them gold in their pot. While these kids were eating their snacks, I left and put gold candy in their pots, and then waited for their reactions and comments when they came back to see what had happened. I wish I could have recorded their reactions because some of them were hilarious. I noticed that one child jumped around and screamed that ?he was here, he was here,? and another child was looking around the room trying to find the leprechaun. Overall, I found that my animistic thinking project worked well. To conclude my observations on animistic thinking, I found that most of the kids seemed to have beliefs based on what they sensed to be true, rather than on what would be logic or rational. Language development between the three–year–old kids, and the five–year–old kids was amazing. There were some grammatical morpheme problems that I picked up on throughout my stay at the preschool and when I was baby–sitting the other girls. I did not notice many mistakes by the five–year–old girl, in fact she was Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 8. Child Observation Report Essay example Introduction The location of the observation was at the Community Center (Early Childhood education program) at 11:00am to 12:30pm on April 15, 2014. The meaningful experiences in early childhood education can positively shape children's development. With a teacher is guidance authentic child–art activity can educate enrich young students' learning abilities, encourage positive attitudes toward other children, and more importantly, learn to interact with people around them in the contemporary world. • 9. Child Observation Observation is vital when you're trying to guide behavior. With observation you can learn what interests or what children have struggles with. You can also learn how a child tackles problems or handles their frustrations, and it can also help you understand why children do the stuff they do. When you have accurate and detailed observations you can provide more precise information to parents about their child's behavior and also to your administrators and colleagues. There are 6 different types of recording methods you can use. The first is checklists, this method is the main one used by schools and programs to provide families with information about their children. Checklists are also used as tools to see what children are capable of. For Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 10. Examples Of Child Observation My observation experience was at the Kalamazoo Public Library Central Branch. The students were around 6 months old to 8 years old. The staff was one older women and two men, an older man and a younger man. They performed a play for the families and their children. I learned that it's important to keep the children's attention and try to involve them in the activity. The children did a much better job of being quiet when the performers were talking to them. Also, I learned that children will pay more attention if they are laughing and smiling. The play had some silly parts, but every child had their eyes on the performers during those parts. My interaction experience was the Kalamazoo Institute of Arts. The students were around the age of 3 years old to 7 years old. The staff was all older women and men. I interacted with the families by greeting them when they first arrived in building. I directed them to the location of where the story was going to be read. Also, I helped the students with their jelly–fish craft. I...show more content... The staff was all women. One women was an intern at Western Michigan University. The literacy component that was the focus of the lesson was comprehension. For the 1st and 2nd interaction, we focused on comprehension when reading the book to the students. For the 1st interaction, we also added vocabulary as another component. We found a Halloween song that included some vocabulary that was used in the book and that went along with our overall theme. If I was presenting this lesson again, I would plan for more crafts. Some of the students liked the coloring pages at the end as a wrap activities, but not all of the students liked coloring. I think another hands–on–activity that was easy and quick might be a better wrap up Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 11. Kindergarten Observation Essay examples The school I went to visit was Public School 69. It was my little brothers elementary school. The reason I chose the school, was because I remember seeing him happy every time he came home from kindergarten. Every day he would come home and have a different project he did in class to show off. The outside of the school looked like a regular public school, but inside Miss Suzy's* (not her real name) classroom was bright, warm, and inviting. My visitation was in the morning, right when the children began school at 8:00am. When I walked inside, the class room was baby blue with all kinds of art projects on the walls. Miss Suzy welcomed me very kindly, and discussed with me, her srtudents and what they have been learning. You can not help but...show more content... I learned the day before my visit, Miss Suzy threw a pizza party for the children. The day of my visit they were going to make their own individual pizzas (I did not get to view that part of the day). I noticed that during circle time, two children seemed uninterested had wandered off. Miss Suzy did not do anything about it, she just let them be. I thought that was wrong of her because the two children were not being involved. The children could of already known what they were speaking about. If that was the case she should of given them some work to do. When circle time was over, Miss Suzy asked each child which part of the room they wanted to play in. Students chose dramatic play, arts and crafts, reading, and playing on the computer. Miss Suzy walked around each group asking them questions, expanding their imaginations. Morrison states "that teachers work with gingival children, small groups" (2003, p.232). Watching Miss Suzy, you can see she really enjoys what she does. She never once ignored a student who went up to her. She seemed genuily interested when the children shared stories with her. She always welcomed them with a hug when walking into the room in the morning to begin their day, and the children would come in running to hug her. Section C When the children walked into the classroom, they all seemed excited and eager to start their day. Miss Suzy greeted each student with respect and a smile on her face. • 13. Example Of A Child Observation Through out the observation both children were moving from place to place. The little girl would grab one toy then go find another one. She would play one type of activity then go back to building blocks. She would stack blocks and connect the rail road tracks for the train. For approximately 3 minutes or more the girl would stay fully engaged trying connecting the railroad tracks. She would forget that she was in a room full of other toys, for a moment I possibly thought she could be autistic because she was able to stay focused on one activity for a long period of time and not engage other children. Her fine motor skills were adequate for her age she was able to hold objects in her hand. While she was fascinated in putting together the railroad...show more content... As she played she was quite and focused on building and connecting. I was able to observe her gesture she smiled all the time even as she said "what". She seemed zoned out again I wonder if she has autism. She was told several times to stop playing but she continued. It seemed as they would tell her to stop she would eager continue to play as if it was the last time she would play with the toys. This was annoying to watch because she would do the opposite of what they were telling her to do. When the toys were gathered and put away, she asked staff about 3 times "no toys". • 14. Child Observation Essay examples For this assignment, I observed my six year old niece, Faustine Bui who was born on August 16, 2007, at the park where I was babysitting her with her mom for approximately thirty minutes. The park I observed her at is packed with children and dogs are allowed. There is a large play area with jungle–jims and slide and it includes a sandy area which has a variety of playing equipment as well. I first observed Faustine's biosocial development such as physical growth, gross motor and fine motor skills. Faustine is 3 feet tall and she weighs 41 pounds according to my Aunt. She is a little shorter than a lot of the six year old that she hangs out with and the ones in the park but I think that her height is in the normal range for kids her age...show more content... She had a hard time conquering the jugle–jim though. She kept waddling back and forth every time she tried to get her feet up on the next bar and she eventually gave up and refused to return to the jungle jim again. She threw a few balls here and there but she was unable to throw it very far or accurate. By the age of three, children can already kick, throw, jump and climb things such as ladder. By the age of six, children can skip, climb trees and over things, and catch a ball (uofmchildrenshospital.org). I was unable to observe a lot of fine motor skills from Faustine but she did pick up a stick from the ground, hold it like a normal adult would hold a pencil, and started drawing in the sand. By the age of 2, children can scribble, fold paper, draw vertical lines and manage semi–large object with their hands. By the age of six, children can copy letters, grasp pencils like a grown adult, and copy complex shapes (kamloopschildrenstherapy.org). I then observed her cognitive skills which included her language, memory, and perception. When observing Faustine, I realized that she is one extremely talkative child. She would talk about everything and anything sometimes she'd just sit in front of us and talk to us and to herself while playing in the sand. According to Lev Vygotskyand his social learning theory, children use private speech ("The internal dialogue that occurs when people talk to themselves, either silently or out Get more content on HelpWriting.net

  • 16. Child Observation Report Essay Child development is an amazing thing to watch in the way that children interact with one another and how they perceive the world that surrounds. While doing our research of child development we began to observe a group of kids ranging the ages 1 – 12. During these observations we noticed traits such as attachment, comfort, and love. Through the following examples we will proceed to observe development in our environment and explain its relativity to the text Observation #1 I observed a set of dizygotic or fraternal twins, Antonio and James, that had walked in, which were both males. I noticed that they were attached to their mother, which I had considered "normal" when thinking back to when my 15 year old daughter was that age. Even...show more content... Then with all of the commotion Antonio calmly got up as if he did not do anything to, again, check on his mother. This time she was not where he had left her, which caused him to react by screaming, "I want my mommy, I want my mommy." Then James came over and began to do the same thing. It was as if they had lost their security blanket. The other kids went over and began to stare at them as though there were something wrong with them. One of the kids came up to me and said, "Why is he crying like that?" I explained to her that he wanted to be with his mommy, and she responded, "Oh," and walked away with out a care in the world. This was a clear example of the experiment that (Harlow) ran on the monkeys in 1962. The monkeys were removed from their mother after 8 weeks of being born then placed in a cage with a surrogate mother, one of wire and the other one was made out of terry cloth. They eventually attached them selves to the surrogate mother that was made out of the terrycloth, even though the one that feed them was the one made out of wire. The reason was the comfort in the soft and warmth of the terrycloth, which made them feel safe. Just like Antonio when he held on to his mother's side. Once Antonio had lost his comfort zone, he felt scared. Harlow stated that attachment was important but it did not ensure normal social development. We saw proof of that behavior earlier with the twins when they did not function as well in an Get more content on HelpWriting.net

  • 18. Examples Of Child Care Observation Step 1: Participant. The child I chose to observe was a brown hair, Hispanic 15 month old girl. The reason I chose to observe her is because I have seen her at the daycare before and she is always so happy, and has such a fun personality. When I began to observe her she was just getting to the center, and her parents just dropped her off. Step 2: Consent. You need to insure an adult responsible for the child has given you permission to observe the child. I had to get consent from the director of Oakwood Methodist Daycare, as well as the parent. I briefly described to both the director and the parent what my paper was going to be about, and asked if it would be okay if I observed the little girl in the infant room. The director had no problem with it. The mother also agreed to it, but she did ask to obtain a copy of the paper before submitting it just so she could read it, and make sure everything looked good. Step 3: Procedure. The place of observation took place at my work, before I clocked in for the day. I work at Oakwood Methodist Preschool/Daycare. I went in to the daycare at about 9:00, which is just free play/ breakfast time in the infant room. The infant room I observed in was a little different than the CDRC, because the infant room is from 7 weeks old to 18 months old. There was not really a place for me to be...show more content... Even when she was walking with the walker she wanted someone to play with her and when she started "chasing" the other child with the walker she laughed again. The floor is need of a good sweep and mop, since the children sit on the floor everyday before their physical activity the floor should be very clean or swept throughly. The smoke detector is still hanging form the ceiling and gives the game area a destopia feel to it. Several of the rooms are in need of clean–up, especially the Barbie room/Playroom. The dolls were spread out across the floor and there was acclamation dust and grim on the floor around the area of the kids play area. The stuff restrooms were overall clean but the trash was not taken out that day. Tony, has a handle on the kids overall. Some of the team leaders did not provide support for the handling of the kids. Child A, picks up a crayon and begins to color his picture. He then stands up grabs multiple crayons a proceeds to the middle of the classroom. The teacher tells him he must stay at his table. After coloring for a few minutes, he looks up and tells the teacher, "you can't look at mine until snack time."
