Originally developed as a collaboration between IBM and Danish Damgaard Data and released as IBM Axapta in March 1998. Damgaard Data merged with Navision Software A/S in 2000 to form NavisionDamgaard and released Axapta 2.5 NavisionDamgaard became Navision A/S. Microsoft acquired the combined company in July 2002 and released Axapta 3.0. 2006 - Released Microsoft Dynamics AX 4.0. 2008 - Released Microsoft Dynamics AX 2009. In September 2011, Microsoft released Dynamics AX 2012. Microsoft Dynamics AX (widely known as AX7) released in February 2016 - Dynamics AX, dropped the nomenclature of year and version. Dynamics AX was rebranded Microsoft Dynamics 365 for Operations in October 2016. Again rebranded as Dynamics 365 for Finance and Operations in July 2017.
