PLCs for a Change? Setting up and Maintaining a Professional Learning Communi...Susan Hillyard
In this workshop we will explore the meaning of “Professional Learning Communities”, analyse a number of models and consider the value of planning and launching a PLC in the context of the ICPNA school environment. We will define PLCs and why they are considered to be important, basing some of these concepts on recent theories of connectivism and trust. Leadership will be seen as a shared experience in a change-ready school. The skills for motivating and inspiring a whole school culture through reference to Maslow and McGregor will be examined while the concept of both Heads and Teachers as learners in their own right will be stressed. Finally, strategies for launching a PLC in your school will be discussed.

America needs more innovators, entrepreneurs and job creators to bolster the nation's economic competitiveness. ScaleUp America sees a multicultural society filled with talented innovators contributing to a knowledge-based, tech-driven, globally competitive innovation economy.
ScaleUp America's Inclusive Competitiveness Summit series will introduce a new economic narrative across the national landscape that combines economic inclusion and economic competitiveness into a 21st century national bipartisan vision of Inclusive Competitiveness. We seek to catalyze conversation around this national economic imperative and help target regions develop inclusive economic frameworks through collaboration of willing local and national stakeholders interested in channeling resources to the local level to scale up what's working and shore up holes in the infrastructure by connecting disconnected communities to their local innovation ecosystems.
Our formula for engaging America is through a series of public Town Hall events followed by a next-day gathering of stakeholders in the local innovation ecosystem.
We know it's nobody's job in each region to catalyze collaboration across the stakeholder communities and develop new inclusive economic frameworks that benefit all of the region collectively. ScaleUp America has made a commitment to the Clinton Global Initiative to take on the responsibility of assisting willing regions to incorporate more of their diverse communities into the pipeline-to-productivity framework to increase job growth, wealth creation and overall economic competitiveness of the region utilizing all of the region's talent.
The Inclusive Competitiveness Summit Series is the first step in this long process.

A presentation that outlines the work undertaken during the 1994-96 period to try and put indigenous business and economic development on the international development agenda. In the early 1990s Indigenous issues were largely framed in terms of human rights and culture. This report summarizes some of the early work to move the donor and development community to also incorporate business and economic development and deal more effectively with economic marginalization.

Ecuador: Creating an Inclusive Business Model
Thursday, May 31
9:00 - 11:30 a.m.
B1-A/B Conference Center
1800 K St. NW, Washington, DC 20006
As Latin America continues efforts to lift its citizens out of poverty, the spotlight is on
increasing the competitiveness of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). Ecuador's
recent efforts to build innovative partnerships for SMEs between the government, private
businesses, and local communities offer an example of how to achieve this. To highlight
these efforts, the CSIS Americas Program is proud to host Ecuador's Coordinating
Minister for Social Development Policy Richard Espinosa, Minister of Industry and
Productivity Veronica Sion, and Minister of Labor Francisco Vacas. We will also be joined
by several representatives of Ecuador's business sector and community leaders that have
partnered and created successful businesses. Please join us for an informative and
timely look into how Ecuador is constructing a better business environment by promoting
profitable associations between large and small businesses, and what the region can
learn from such efforts.
The event will be in Spanish with simultaneous translation provided.
Open to the public, however space is limited. To RSVP, please send confirmation to the
Americas Program at americas@csis.org.
