The Michael Scott Mater Foundation (MSMF) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to building relationships between the United States and Foreign Nations through the promotion of sustainable engineering and green technologies in order to create jobs, promote cooperative and sustainable education platforms, and promote economic growth at the community level. The foundation looks for strategic partnerships from institutions of education at all levels, corporations, government entities, and other NGOs to help bring sustainable solutions to impoverished men, women and children at all stages in life.

3. About the Foundation… MSMF was founded by three young American veterans of the Iraq War who share a common passion for improving the lives of impoverished men, women and children around the world. This passion is modeled after Michael Scott Mater, father to Joshua Mater, who passed away from cancer in 2002. A lifetime citizen of Oregon, Michael’s work with Mater Engineering ( a company founded by his parents Milton and Jean Mater over 60 years ago) enabled him to reach out to people all over the world. From the development of a graffiti wall which captured national attention to his work with Native Americans, Michael along with wife Catherine, broke historical boundaries and created bonds of friendship that brought any community they worked in closer together. Following in his father’s footsteps, Joshua Mater, along with Jesus Quispe and Tiffany Aveau, created the Foundation in memory of Michael in order to ensure that the ideals, passion, and inspiration he portrayed on a daily basis would continue to benefit those in need by creating jobs and promoting sustainable solutions to life’s most challenging problems. Provide a bridge of sustainable engineering learning between US and international students and faculty . Open the door for work fellowships for professional foreign engineers in top US construction and architectural firms in order to foster relations between US and foreign industries, and improve the knowledge base of the international engineering work force. The International Promotion of Sustainable Engineering initiative was developed by the Foundation to bring together representatives from academia, government, industry, capacity builders, and program managers/NGOs to share new technologies and processes being developed within the US corporate and academic environments and their practical application at the community, provincial and national levels.
