2. Who is our target audience?
We believe our target audience to be males aged 18-30. Our
thriller is based around a dark and disturbing subject, full of
alarming and sinister scenes, which is why we believe that it is
only likely to appeal to a certain type of audience. Our thriller
could be considered as a stereotypical mainstream horror/thriller.
We hope to appeal to this audience but also to an indie smaller
audience because our thriller is a n independent production. Not
only do we hope that our primary audience will enjoy our thriller
but we hope that our secondary audience, e.g families of our
primary audience will be able to watch it.
3. Attracting Our Audience Through Actors
Our main actress is a young teenage girl, it was important
for her to be good looking because our target audience is
male, and having a young and attractive main character is
something else that will appeal and lure men in to watch
the film and maybe wider our target audience. She plays a
stereotypical blonde haired innocent and naive character
who is unaware of what will happen to her, similar to
characters like the female character in opening five minutes
of “Scream”.
4. Attracting Our Audience Through Actors
Although you don’t see the main actor in our
opening sequence you are aware he is there,
when he chases the young girl and you hear
his voice throughout. This element of a dark
and mysterious man will help create suspense
and tension, while attracting the audience to
finding out the identity of the character
5. Attracting Our Audience Through Costumes
The young girls costumes, is a typical school uniform which
will hopefully appeal to a slightly younger audience as they
may be able to relate to the character. During the opening
sequence her costumes changes to a ripped and ruined
version, which will present her as a weaker character again
appealing to the men who will instantly feel more dominant
and powerful, as it is known that the women are almost
always the victims while the men are shown to have more
power. The torn version also adds to a more attractive look, as
it becomes more revealing.
6. Attracting Our Audience With Previous Films
Our target audience: males ages 18-30, are expected to
like films that are similar and inspiration to ours. These are
films and actors such as “Dr Hannibal Lecter- Silence of the
Lambs” and “Scream”. As our thriller conforms to the ideas
of mainstream high concept thrillers, we are more than sure
that our target audience will be the same as our inspiring
films, we also hope to appeal to a smaller mainstream
audience as ours will be an independent project, unlike the
films I have listed above.
7. Attracting Our Audience Through Sub-Genres
Our thriller has several sub-genres these
include horror and is counted as a
psychological thriller. Due to it being a
psychological thriller, we could attract a
more intellectual audience because
watching it you would have to think about
what was going on to understand the film.
8. Attracting Our Audience Through Film Categories
Violence is something that is shown throughout our
film, this is due to the cannibalistic serial killer. We
tried to create this violence as successfully as we
were able. If our film shows violence it is going to
target the young part of our target audience,
violence is both thrilling and scary and builds the
excitement of our piece which will attract a wider
audience.
9. Attracting Our Audience Through Film Categories
Horror is something else that plays a massive part in our
thriller. Like violence it is built throughout until it reaches
its climax. The horror of the piece shows how mentally ill
our protagonist is. We emphasised the horror through the
use of makeup and fake blood, to connote this sense of
horror and fear. Although and horror and violence
attracts the same audience, hopefully including both will
widen the audience and attract people who wouldn't
normally be interested in thrillers but horrors instead.
10. Attracting Our Audience Through Marketing
Due to our low budget production budget, our
marketing campaign will only be done online and
over the internet. This is an appealing way for our
target audience as young people tend to spend
most of their time online anyway. This way our
target audience can share and talk about it online
with their friends through sites like “Facebook,
Twitter and Youtube”
