Evaluation questions
1. Who would be the audience for your media product?
We wanted to aim our opening sequence at teenagers above the age of 15 we
have given the sequence a certificate rating of 15; we thought this was
appropriate, as it would show themes of horror, which would not be suitable for
viewers under the age of 15. Teenagers seem to make up the majority of viewers
for such films with these types of horror conventions. Other films with similar
audience and the same rating as three are films such as Seven, The unborn and
the shining etc.
How did you attract/address your audience?
Using the research that we gathered from websites such as box office mojo and
the numbers we built our audience profile meaning we knew exactly who we
were wanting to aim our horror at, the audience being teenagers 15+. We had to
think of ways in which we would attract our audience through the storyline,
camera work and sound. We used sound throughout the process of the horror
opening; the majority of horror films are based around the music and how it
creates suspense amongst its audience. We wanted to have this create the same
eerie atmosphere building the suspense. In order to create this suspense through
the sound, we created our own soundtrack to accompany the camera work; the
track was very dark and strange in order to entice the audience. The storyline
behind our horror was also created to attract the audience; we based it on a well-
known myth which is the slender man known for his tall slender black suited
figure, we tried to recreate this look as much as we could through the mise en
scene, we got the main character to dress in a dark suit covering his face with a
clear disturbing looking mask. Again to build the tension we used the zoom in
technique with the camera to show the time on the analogue clock, the slow
zoom again has a way of building the tension and creating an eerie atmosphere.
Quick edit cuts such as jump cuts and over the shoulder shots in order to make
the audience feel tense.
