Question 4
How did you use media technologies in the construction and
research, planning and evaluation stages?
Premiere Pro
This helped me with cutting my music video down
as well as organizing the clips I had. It was the main
program I used in the construction of my music
video as well as for certain clips that helped to
explain certain parts of my research and planning.
This helped with planning for my music video as I
used it to mess around with different effects and test
out what would look good over certain footage and
what would – this also included adding an overlay of
footage over one another.
After Effects
I used this to add effects over the top of my video,
this including the text that I received feedback on
for having too much of. I was experimenting with
this program for the text at 3:27 and it worked well
in my opinion and gave a good 3D effect to simple
2D footage.
Photoshop
I used Photoshop to edit images for my website and for the digipack. It was the program I used for the
most part of the photo editing as it helped me to put the images together to form the digipack. I used the
program to most crop down images for the website as I used a website, PicMonkey, for editing my photos
to give it the overlay effect, overlaying the images over one another as well as to put filters over the top of
the photos. These programs were helpful in trying to get the effect that I desired for my products though
with PicMonkey there were some issues. The issue was mostly with internet connection as without internet
access, it wasn’t possible to edit the pictures on the site, on the other hand, there were also some issues
with Photoshop – the program was generally quite slow and it was fiddly to use a lot of the time. It was
difficult to try and get what I wanted with this program compared to the website. Both programs had ups
and downs when using them but I did manage to work with these issues.
WIX
I used the website wix to create the website, it
was a bit awkward to use at first but that was
because I had never used the website before and
after a few tries and messing about with the
widgets on the website. I managed to add
different tabs to the website and also used a
template for the website as it was an issue for me
when I tried to create one of my own.
Planning and Research (YouTube)
I used different websites and programs for the
research and planning part of the project – this
ranged from using YouTube to upload videos, to
using Prezi, a presentation website. I tried to use a
variety of programs and websites throughout my
planning and research, so not to make it entirely
word based when explaining what I planned and
what I had discovered. I would use YouTube to
upload videos to explain in depth about what was
happening with my project from a video to explain
what song I had thought about using at the start to
a video that talked about question 3 of my
evaluation and the feedback I had received as well
as acted upon.
Planning and Research (Prezi)
Prezi was used often throughout my work,
especially when it came to doing case studies
as it was easy to write up in detail about a
certain piece of work. I used this website a
lot because it seemed to look more
presentable than using PowerPoint and has
many more features. The site ran smoothly
for the most part, though because it was
website based – it depended highly in the
internet unlike PowerPoint and whenever the
internet would go down, Prezi would lose
connection. It may have been an easy site to
use, there was certainly a lot of issues with it.
Conclusion
• For the software I used, there was certainly
parts that was awkward to use and I had to
reacquaint myself with certain software's,
these being the Adobe programs that I
used (After Effects, Premiere Pro and
Photoshop). The programs weren’t that
easy to use and I had to look up many
tutorials on how to do certain effects and
how to add the titling to my music video.
It took a long time to render out the
videos I made as well, even short videos
would take a long to export and render.
• The websites I used to help make my
media products weren’t exactly reliable.
With YouTube to upload videos, it
would often take a long time to wait
for it to fully load, especially with
longer videos like my evaluation as that
took a long while to load. Prezi had
issues as it would lose connection quite
often which made progress slow.
