How did you use media technologies in the construction and
research, planning and evaluation stages?
The main media technologies I used were Adobe Premiere Pro CS3, YouTube, iTunes, Blogger, and
Adobe Photoshop CS5
iTunes
Whilst researching my target audience, the iTunes Store was very useful in
researching singer-songwriters and other related music people buy and listen to
most. I started off with Ed Sheeran and found a few other similar bands which
the same person had bought, like Ben Howard. This is how I researched my
audience and the market in which these bands are competing in. I also used
iTunes for holding my song for Tom Cox. I used it to put the song on my iPod
so whenever I need to listen to the song or had an idea within the lyrics of
rhythm I could check anytime.
YouTube
This was a useful website I used to watch music videos. When researching and planning a music video, it’s
very hard to go straight in with no influences or ideas in your mind. I had a few favorite videos in my mind I
wanted to look at and gain ides from. Arctic monkeys are a band who loves to use
the narrative-based videos. Watching one video allowed me to watch related
videos that other people recommended, which also gave me help with my
audience research as well as ideas. YouTube was also where I posted my video for
the public to watch and give me feedback. I posted my link to my survey below
the video and received 23 replies. With each video you are given a link which you
can then post on social networking sites like Facebook which then can be spread and found whenever
someone wants to see the video.

Blogger
Blogger was my main place to post all my research, planning, products and evaluation. It is the home of all
my work. Here you can see all my ideas, problems, progress and failures. I used Blogger as my idea box,
writing and posting new ideas which have happened during the production of my three products. I also used
this for people to read and understand the thought progress I have made to create this video and digipack.
This was useful for keeping organized and keeping thoughts and ideas on one page so I could look it up if I
needed reminding. Using this for a year already I found it easy to work and post whenever I wanted. I also
added the app on my iPhone 4 so I could work whilst away from a laptop. Blogger was the main Media
product I used.

3. Adobe Premiere Pro CS3
This was the software I used to edit and create my video with. I have had a lot of practice with final cut and
iMovie during last year. However as I was working from home I had to use totally new software and a whole
new way of editing. I had to do it all on my laptop as I had the software, but with such a big memory
requirement, this software drained my laptop and was a challenge. However after exploring the software and
various effects, I soon got my feet on the ground and it became easy enough to edit my film with. With
many problems along the way, I found adding the effects and footage fun and easy. One effect I was proud
of was the rewind. I had to cut up all the footage again and place it in reverse. Another effect I enjoyed using
was the leave colour, this allowed me to pick a colour which would remain on the screen whilst I turned the
rest of the shot to black and white. Editing the clips was hard as keeping with the beat of the music and
making every change perfect was hard to see on some occasions.
Adobe Photoshop CS5
This was the main technology I used to create my digipack. It was good to use, although complicated at first,
it gave me various effects and text fonts to play with. I haven’t used it before this, so learning the ropes had
to be quick, however after a few angry attempts I worked out how to use it and was away with making my
digipack. I had to use such techniques as changing the contrast, colour balance, cropping images and also
editing pictures as some colour needed filling in and I had to edit a picture and making sure it looked real
and well edited. Another thing I did was edit a ‘rizla papers’ image to make it into a card for a critics view. I
changed the logo of it and turned it into a T for Tom Cox. It took me well over 30 minutes to perfect the
image.
Conclusion
In conclusion, I used a wide range of technology during my production. Each of which required a lot of
effort and learning. Some of the technology was harder to used than others but the overall outcome showed
the learning curve I inherited during this year. Without my understanding of technology and lessons from
our foundation portfolio I wouldn’t of been able to do this all on my own.
