Women in our film have been represented as strong. we have shown
this by doing a number of things, for example low angled shots
This shot automatically indicates that the women are intimidating and powerful.
The editing also ties in with this representation, as the shot lengths are
elongated adding to their power and strength.
There costume, hair and make up are not revealing, but casual clothes worn in
every day life, in comparison to the stereotypical costumes normally worn by
women in social realist films. Normally women are portrayed wearing revealing
clothing, making them seem like they are sex objects which the men have power
over.
< Our costumes
In contrast, men in our opening are constructed in a non stereotypical way to how
social realist films present them. The male character is shown as the victim who
has become motionless. The audience are being made to feel pity and
sympathize for his character due the use of high angled shots.
The way we have composed and framed the male character also isolates
him and shows a strong contrast between women and men in our film. He
is almost always framed by himself in contrast to the girls who are shown
in unity as if they are all one.
