Evaluation question 1
1. In what ways does your media
product use, develop or
challenge forms and conventions
of real media products?
By Lucie Stevens
2. Using conventions.
One of the conventions used is her clothing. At one point she is covered up when she
is outside however when she is inside she is wearing a tight vest top accentuating
her breasts. This is typical of a music video to attract male audiences. She is also in
her pajamas which attracts young female audiences who like to relax in their
pajamas. These images show the different outfits/costumes in my music video.
3. …..
The actions and dancing in the video is conventions of a pop music video. When we
watch a music video there is a lot of dancing around being done by the female.
This is included in my video. This image is of Taylor Swift in her music video for ‘22’
and I believe that this really highlights the dancing used in her music video. The
actions are quite similar in my music video.
This is an image of BridgitMendler
in her ‘ready or not’ video and this
action is used in my music video.
4. ….
Lip synching is another convention of a pop music video.
This is included throughout my music video which I think
is very well done by the girl in the video and is very
effective. This is an image showing her lip synching.
5. Magazine Advert.
This is my magazine advert which
includes some conventions including
the quotations showing opinions of
audiences and different text. It also
includes a photograph of the artist. I
believe that a logo could have been
added at the bottom to demonstrate
the music company to which it belongs.
The image of the artist on the magazine
advert is also the image which is on the
back cover of the digipak. This is a
convention and interlinks the texts
together. It also interlinks the music
video because it is taken from the
actual video.
6. Challenging conventions.
I don’t believe that my music video
challenges any conventions of the music
video. This is because there is lip
synching, dancing and a change of outfit
and scenery throughout. There are no
challenging conventions to this aspect.
There are also no challenges in the
magazine advert apart from the fact that
the background is white and is not very
bold. However this is contrasted with the
boldness of the red rose and I believe
this factor also highlights the image of
the artist and her clothing. The digipak is
quite typical also. However it challenges
conventions because there are no close
ups of the artist, when usually there are
close ups included on the digipak to
connect to the audience and make it
personal. I think my digipak is quite fun.
