Josh Robinson used several media technologies throughout the different stages of creating his media products. He used a Nikon SLR camera to take photographs and record video footage for his music video. He edited the footage in Adobe Premiere and added visual effects to promotional materials in Adobe Photoshop. While the software helped improve his skills, Premiere occasionally crashed, causing lost work. He uploaded the final video to Vimeo but had to decrease the quality to fit the file size limit. Other technologies like Blogger, Survey Monkey, and Facebook helped with presentation, research, and audience feedback.

Question 4- How did you use media technologies in the construction and research, planning and
evaluation stages?
With the current world of Web 2.0 and technological convergence I was able to edit, render and
research all from the same computer with the help of different media technologies, in the different
stages of the creation of my media products I used a variety of different media technologies to help
for the different tasks, one of which included the Nikon SLR camera, this camera allowed me not
only to take high quality photographs with a good capture of light for my ancillary project, I was also
able to record the different shots from the music video and easily move them to the computer
where I could edit on software such as Adobe Premiere. Despite this being a great media technology
that could be easily used, there was a limitation that could’ve increased the quality
of the music video if it wasn’t there, this was that the camera isn’t professional
quality that would be expected on high budget music videos, however this doesn’t
affect the outcome too much as the finished product was still to a high standard.
Another technology that helped in the overall outcome of my ancillary project was
Adobe Photoshop, over the time of using this software, similar to Adobe Premiere my skills have
increased, I was able to add visual effects to the digipak and poster to make the artist stand out and
to also emphasize certain aspects such as the text more than others, this professional software
allowed me to reach a high level in quality of the Ancillary project.
The music video was edited in Adobe Premiere; this allowed me to easily create the
music video to a high standard with the use of editing. This software is intuitive and
easy to use however I had to develop my skills while using this software, at the
beginning of the editing process I didn’t have a lot of knowledge about the software
but with the help menus that Premiere provides I eventually became more adept. A
small limitation of this software was that it crashed on certain
occasions, sometimes leading to the lack of work getting done and
sometimes on more serious occasions the loss of work, but this could
be prevented by saving my work more often, which I did start to do.
Once completed I uploaded the video on the website Vimeo, which is a
video sharing website similar to YouTube where like YouTube I could
research other music videos on multiple devices such as smart phones and computers, which I could
use as inspiration for the creation of my final media products. A limitation that I encountered with
Vimeo was that if you didn’t have a premium account, the max file size allowed for upload was
500MB meaning that I had to greatly decrease the file size and quality in order for it to be uploaded.
Different technologies that I used throughout the creation of my coursework were Slide share which
allowed me to present my word documents easily on my blog, putting it in a small window that
people could view; this meant that I didn’t need to download the Microsoft Office document to read
it. Blogger is a website which allowed me to easily present all of my coursework in a consistent
layout; this included my Ancillary projects and finished music video. Survey Monkey is a website I
used to create a questionnaire and send it to different people over social networking
sites such as Facebook, with this website I didn’t have to use paper based surveys
and the results were calculated by them so there was no need for me to calculate
the results myself. Two more websites include Prezi and Facebook, Prezi allowed me
to present my work clearly making use of different media technologies, it was easy

to navigate through and I could embed the document onto my blog. Facebook let me collect
audience feedback about my finished product so I could see how the target audience respond to the
editing techniques and cinematography.
An external hardware that I used was the USB stick that allowed me to transfer my work across
different workstations in case there was a chance that one of them broke down and was unusable. A
limitation of this however was the fact that there is limited storage space on a USB stick, the one
which I used was 4GB so I couldn’t transfer a large amount of files. The final limitation was how the
internet was down on occasion meaning that I couldn’t do any research, however in conclusion
media technologies were used throughout the construction, research, planning and evaluation
stages of my media coursework, whether it was websites to present my work, or editing software to
help me improve the professionalism of my video and make it as high quality as possible.
