This document lists 4 characters - Ciaran the Detective from Transformers, Ethan the Young Adult, Barry the Young Adult from I Know What You Did Last Summer. It provides the names and descriptions of 4 characters from different movies or stories.
For their preliminary task, the students had limited time and equipment for planning and filming. Their final thriller opening took weeks to plan with in-depth research. While some shots like shot-reverse-shot were similar, the final product had improved planning, equipment usage, and editing skills. They gained confidence using cameras, dolly, and tripod. Continuity editing skills improved between tasks. Though one scene lacked a dolly, overall the final thriller looked professional and realistic due to high quality filming and editing.
The document discusses the representation of social groups in the media product "Vengeance". The protagonist Ethan Barrett is portrayed as a 17-20 year old male to relate to younger audiences, though protagonists are typically older males. The detective is portrayed by an older, more experienced looking actor to attract older audiences. Both characters conform to typical representations in the thriller genre. The settings and costumes also aim to be realistic and appropriate for the thriller genre. Sound, camera work, and editing techniques like shot-reverse-shot are used to set the atmosphere and reveal details in a way that builds mystery and intrigue, as is common in thrillers.
The document discusses the technologies and software used to create a thriller opening, including a Canon DSLR camera, microphone, lighting, iMac, Final Cut Pro, YouTube, SoundCloud, and Blogger. It describes the advantages and disadvantages of each tool from quality of footage and audio to ease of use. Key lessons learned were how to manually focus the camera, importance of sound quality, and learning video editing software like Final Cut Pro. Challenges during filming and editing around focus, colors, and camera shake were overcome through techniques like manual focus, audio detaching, and video stabilization.
The document discusses targeting audiences for a media product. It aims its thriller film at teenagers aged 15-18 because the protagonist is that age, allowing audiences to relate to her. Teenagers also attend parties like the protagonist, furthering relatability. Both male and female teenagers are targeted, with scenes of action appealing to males and scenes of the female protagonist walking alone at night appealing to females. Scenes with the detective father also draw in adults aged 20-30. Feedback from target audiences found they could relate to and emphasize with the protagonist's experiences and situations.
Research and planning is vital to the success of any film production. For the preliminary task, there was little research and planning - the group had a short discussion about what to film and where. However, for the thriller opening there was significantly more research and planning, including questionnaires, focus groups, and plot pitches.
Production techniques improved from the preliminary task to the thriller opening. For the preliminary task, the camera settings were not adjusted, but for the thriller various camera techniques were used, such as adjusting the white balance and focus and following the rule of thirds.
Post-production involved more advanced editing for the thriller opening compared to the preliminary task. More footage was collected and trimmed down for the thriller, and
The document discusses marketing strategies for a low-budget British thriller film. It suggests distributing the film through a UK company that provides £100,000 budgets for independent films. It also recommends displaying the film online instead of in cinemas due to lower costs and the target young audience's internet usage. Viral marketing through social media is described as the fastest, cheapest way to reach this audience. Examples of similar low and higher budget film campaigns are also provided.
This document discusses social groups and stereotypes represented in a thriller film. It notes that the female police officer challenges stereotypes of women by being part of the police force rather than staying at home. However, the daughter character in the film conforms to stereotypes by wearing makeup and dressing to impress men. The document also discusses how the film attracts its target audience of teens and young adults through including modern teen protagonists they can relate to, as well as a detective character that appeals to older viewers. It analyzes the mise-en-scene, camera work, sounds, and editing techniques used to immerse the audience in the thriller genre.

Teenagers also engage in behaviors shown, like attending parties. Both male and female teenagers are targeted as the film includes scenes that appeal to both genders. Scenes may also appeal to adults aged 20-30 but the film is rated 15 due to mild language and violence. Audience research found thrillers appeal more to males but the film aims to attract both genders. Feedback from the target demographic found they could relate to and engage with aspects of the film.

The document discusses the target audience and age rating for a media product. It analyzes audience research that found most viewers were 15-18 years old, supporting the choice to rate the thriller a 15. Feedback from these younger viewers praised camera shots and sound design that created tension. However, an older interviewee noted they preferred more recent thriller films. The document aims to incorporate thriller conventions into the opening through plot twists, red herrings, and an unsettling atmosphere. Overall, research indicated revealing little in the opening but including clues pointing to the ending.
This document discusses options for distributing a short independent film called "Chase." It suggests that independent film distributors like Vertigo Films or Peccadillo Pictures would be suitable since they handle smaller, UK-based independent films. As an independent production, it notes that it would work with UK producers like Film 4 rather than major Hollywood studios. Given the low budget, the document proposes marketing the film primarily through social media platforms like Snapchat, Facebook, and Instagram that target its 15-25 year old audience.
The document discusses the technologies and skills the author learned while constructing a media product for their course. They used different cameras - a flip camera and Canon 650 camera - and learned about camera functions and quality. They also used editing software like Final Cut Pro, Logic Pro, GarageBand, and iMovie to edit video, add soundtracks and titles, and record audio. Other skills mentioned include creating blogs using Blogger and finding copyright-free content on websites like Art of the Title and YouTube. The author is happy with the new technical skills and knowledge gained from this project.
1) The document discusses mistakes made in the production of a preliminary film project due to a lack of planning and limited time. Scenes were filmed in different locations that did not match, and there was no time to re-film.
2) It notes the film used a limited range of shots and technical skills due to the group's inexperience. Their knowledge has since developed in producing their opening sequence.
3) Reflection on the preliminary acknowledges it was rushed compared to the opening, which had more planning and research into effective film techniques. The author is pleased with improvements made in the opening sequence.
This document contains 5 titles with the word "VENGEANCE" in different capitalization styles. The titles are numbered but not in consecutive order. "VENGEANCE" is capitalized differently in the 3rd title compared to the others.
Representing Social Groups in my Thrillerelliot_1123
This document analyzes how various film techniques are used to represent social groups and conform to stereotypes. It discusses how the female protagonist is presented through lighting, camera angles, costumes and editing to portray her as vulnerable and weak, conforming to gender stereotypes. The male antagonist is similarly analyzed as being portrayed as dark, powerful and threatening through techniques like lighting and camera angles, conforming to stereotypes of masculinity. The document examines these representations of gender, as well as how class stereotypes are both conformed to and challenged in the portrayal of the working-class protagonist.
The group learned several things about filming, editing, and documenting technologies through constructing their product:
1) They learned how to manually adjust camera settings like white balance to enhance image quality, and how camera lenses can be used to take detailed close-up shots.
2) Through editing, they discovered how to precisely edit shots and remove background noise, as well as how to adjust lighting and fade soundtracks.
3) Various documentation tools like YouTube, Blogger, and Prezi allowed them to share their work, receive feedback, and present information in engaging ways while documenting their progress.
This document contains responses from 4 individuals to questions about their movie preferences and habits. It collects information about their gender, age, favorite genres and movies. It also asks how they hear about new films, their opinions on films with female protagonists, and how often they go to the cinema. Their answers provide insight into the different ways people learn about and engage with new movies.
The document discusses potential film ratings for a thriller movie project. It explores the guidelines of the British Board of Film Classification ratings system. Based on the research, the author predicts the movie will likely receive a 12A or 15 rating. A 12A would allow a wider target audience but provide less creative freedom, while a 15 rating would give more freedom but target a narrower audience. After debate, the author decides a 15 rating is best for the thriller project, as it allows more interesting and explicit content like violence, improving realism. The implications of a 15 rating are discussed as both benefits like increased freedom, and drawbacks like a smaller target audience.
The document discusses the music, TV, and clothing preferences of a teenage boy audience member. It states that the boy would listen to loud, meaningful songs that explore themes and elicit feelings. He would enjoy crime TV shows like Sherlock for their plot twists and mysteries. In terms of clothing, the boy would dress like typical teenagers but care more about intellectual interests than his appearance.
We used a Canon DSLR 650D camera to film our thriller. The camera produced very clear, high quality footage, but any slight movement of the lens could cause blurriness. We used different lenses and a tripod to get stable shots from various angles and distances. The camera's large size and weight made some high-angle shots difficult without shake.
For editing, we used the Final Cut Pro X software on an Apple Mac computer. The software had many features but was difficult to learn at first. By watching tutorial videos, I learned basic editing skills like trimming clips and adding music. The software was sometimes slow and the Mac froze occasionally, causing issues importing footage.
The document discusses strategies for attracting the target audience for a thriller film opening. It analyzes that the target audience is teenagers to middle-aged adults, as younger people tend to enjoy the genre more than older generations. Music and scenes are made dramatic and intense to appeal to younger viewers, but may scare younger children. Both female and male audiences enjoy thrillers for their suspense and mystery. The opening filmed without showing the antagonist's face or motives, and with minimal dialogue, to intrigue audiences and not give away the storyline. Camera angles were used to help audiences empathize with both the protagonist and feel discomfort towards the antagonist.
The document discusses the benefits of exercise for mental health. Regular physical activity can help reduce anxiety and depression and improve mood and cognitive function. Exercise causes chemical changes in the brain that may help protect against mental illness and improve symptoms for those who already suffer from conditions like depression and anxiety.

The document discusses the design of a digipak for a music release. It describes how digipaks typically have 6 sides and images are easily cropped onto the sides. The front usually features the artist name and album/single title along with the release date.
The specific digipak discussed has a grayscale theme with 6 sides, unlike most that use many colors. Pictures were taken separately from the music video shoot to allow more design flexibility. The front features the main artist "Arkitect" and the featured song from their music video "Don't worry about me". Lyrics are included on the sides, inspired by designs from Lana Del Ray and Rhianna albums to make the digipak appealing across
The document discusses the effectiveness of combining a main music product (a music video) with ancillary promotional texts (a digipak and magazine advert). It summarizes how the products were designed to be interconnected through similar visuals and featuring the same artist, Morgan, in order to create an effective promotional package. Research on the target 17-23 age demographic that enjoys grime music informed both the music video's content and the locations used during filming. Key locations shown in the digipak and video help link the products together.

A Strategic Approach: GenAI in EducationPeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.
