Q2 how does your media product represent particular social
groups? I would say my magazine represents the social group of ‘pop/rock’ although it does
feature other genres of music but not as strongly. I have designed my magazine to
suit the needs and variations of this social group, you can see the style of magazine
is strongly based on that of ‘Q’, ‘kerrang’ and ‘NME’ as these share the same social
group as me particular ‘Q’ magazine, as its social group is also ‘pop/rock’. The
colours I used red, black and white represents the genre because these are the
colours I would most associate with bands and artists featured on a ‘pop/rock’
magazine. Cam(my final model )was chosen because I felt that he would appeal to
the audience I was targeting . I do think he is particularly represented well in this
aspect as his style would appeal to both male and female I was targeting, the
clothes he is wearing reflects what today is considered in-trend and casual, as I
knew that someone who was into pop/rock wouldn’t be dressed up in smart clothes
such as trousers and shirts but someone who looked nice but with less effort. I
looked at plenty of artists to get the right look for my model, for example Noel
Gallagher who typically wore casual clothes in most of his photo-shoots and music
videos, so this is how I chose my model to look as he does because I felt it was
successful and as well as my target social group could relate to.
I have also tried to represent the pop/rock social group within my contents page I
did this by using a certain page layout and text layout for instant my contents page is
of a band interview, I felt this would appeal to my social group as they would want to
get to know the band of that they are ‘into’. My text is of quite high literature with a
lot of detail as I felt this would intrigue and make it more personal for the social
group, like they were actually sat there asking the questions to the band. My text
isn't all of high quality as I felt this would maybe bore or make a younger reader lose
interest. It is all very concentrated on the band with little distractions not allowing
my social to lose interest. My picture is very much similar as in it is a male model
once again wearing casual clothes, appealing again to both aspects male and female
of my targeted social group. The male model is of a young age which would appeal to
the younger side of the social group, but his posture and stance is showing him
looking away from the camera which gives him a very mature look appealing to older
side as they would want to find out his story. I kept the tone of my page quite formal
as I wanted it to feel like it was a nice flowing conversation and the reader, young or
felt like they were actually involved.
