Question 2
How does your media product represent
particular social groups?
A social group is a group of people (2 or more) who, share similar
characteristics and interest in something.
The social group I decided to use are teenagers. I believe that
my media product represents my chosen social group because,
the artist I used is a teenager and also in the front cover,
contents page and double page spread you can easily identify
the target audience etc.. Due to the fact that I have a number of
genres within my magazine I thought it would be best to keep
the colours neutral. On my cover page, contents page and
double page spread I decided to keep the colours the same on
these pages as I wanted everything to be consistent and link
together well and I believed I could achieve this by keeping the
colours the same.
Something that I could of improved on was getting people of
different ages in my magazine to try and meet my target
audience better. However, I did say in my plan that my
magazine would be aimed more at teenagers this is because
I understand this age group the best.
Also, in my music magazine I have used formal
language. I have kept this consistent throughout the
magazine to try and move teenagers away from slang
to set them up for adult life.
I've also used positive representation. All of
my models are dressed in smart formal
clothing to try and change stereotypes and
change the way in which people and
particular audiences are perceived. As you
can see on my contents page girls are not
presented like sex objects but instead are
fully clothed and look smart and
presentable. The boys have been dressed
like this to show that there isn't a set style
on a particular genre. My magazine
changes the game as it shows teenagers
that dressing smart is a good thing and
also that people should never be
categorised on what they wear and how
they style their clothing.
